Guest TheFameof_Dying
One day My sis was checking out who was on otaku, And she noticed somone named... sagebrushfire I think. She looked at the profile and it said that the member was banned, But the member had absolutly no posts, 0. Then,We never saw him again. Was this some kind of computer burp or what? I don't see how you can get banned, But never post. Either the rules in here are stricter than I thought, Or there's a ghost in otaku. Can somone please explain how this can happen? PS: Should I have put this as a reply in the unregisterd member thread, It dodn't seem to fit, but I could be wrong.
terra
I'm not completely sure about this, but sometimes it's necessary to delete all of the posts of banned members, usually because their posts were full of profanity or entirely inappropriate. So it's quite possible that sagebrushfire was one of those members. Hope that helps.
Semjaza
This happens mostly because once someone is banned, they create a new account nearly right after and try to come back. Some people are given that chance, some are not. In the case of SageBrushFire, it was Sixthcrusifix. This person was giving people a hard time in general, and thus Charles (I think) finally diposed of him. Sage had things in his profile that were obviously in reference to the person who banned him, so I think it's safe to say there was little reason to let him try again. There's a reason for everything. terra's reason is also surprisingly a common one.
Guest TheFameof_Dying
Thank you veryt much, That is scarily ironic. I know sixy, I didn't think He would do that. He is nice on otaku, But everyone here seemes to have problems with him. Hes really wierd, I think he might be a drag queen too. he he, Not that I would make fun of anyone, I pride myself in never Breaking forum rules, Im in a bunch of forums, But thats off subject, So is that Why my sis could not e mail the person? And how come you don't just delete the account? can you do that? And if somone uses profanity, Am I suposed to report it to a moderator? Also, What is considered bad language, or should I say, Are there any words that are maybe bad to some people that are allowd, I see people say"Damn" And "Hell" I am assuming these would be ok, right?? Lady Asphyxia
In answer to some of your questions: Yes, admins can delete accounts. However, there's a great number of accounts that can be deleted, and so Charles or James will go through every so often and delete a few. It would be my guess that deleting banned accounts would get rid of the ban [although I may be incorrect]. Besides which, would you really want to be running around with the name of a previously banned member? It could get rather sticky. As for profanity. Otakuboards has censors up to mask profanity. If it's considered an unacceptable word, it will be blanked out, like this: ****. If the word isn't censored, it isn't considered offensive to the general population, and therefore you can use it. If someone misuses the censor, for instance using special characters to bypass the censor, then report it to a mod, because it isn't allowed. There are special forums that the censors have been restricted, specifically the Poetry and Literature Forum and the Adventure Arena. [I believe that's all]. That's incase the swearing is for a creative reason -- if you have a character in a story whose every second word is a profanity, then it would start looking very bad. Anyway, I hope that answered some of your questions. If you need anymore help, just ask, or PM me and I'll be happy to reply. ^_^" .:Asphy:.
Guest MetalSonic700
I once saw a Guest who had 435 posts. How did that happen? It scared me half to death!
Syk3
Originally posted by MetalSonic700 I once saw a Guest who had 435 posts. How did that happen? It scared me half to death!
This was most likely the result of someone who's account was deleted, rather than being banned. In my own experience, a few months after I became moderator I told James of an old account that I no longer used, and he went ahead and simply deleted it. So whenever you go back and see a post from "Solid Snake", it will say "Guest" as the user title. An account may be deleted if a user has multiple accounts, or hasn't been to OtakuBoards in years, and I believe it may open up the possibility for others to now register under that name.
Guest cloricus
Spam is also a possible reason for this; some one can send off a good number of spam pm's before a mod would catch up to them without even posting a thing. As for cleaning the user list, out of all the time I've been here I haven't seen a decent attempt at this. I assume thats some thing to do with users list and gloating? (All boards should go on active user numbers in my opinion.)
