Evanescence?

Well, basically all I wanted to ask is what you people think of the band Evanescence, because personally I think they started off really good and everyone liked them...but now I'm getting sick of them because their songs are being replayed again and again..

I mean they do have some good songs that I enjoy...but I am getting sick of them already:mad:

What does everyone else think? :D

Well, they only have like one real available CD (and a bunch of demos and EPs, as I know they were around for years prior to that) so that's kind of expected.

I'm not a fan... but you might want to check out Lacuna Coil or Curve. They're somewhat similar bands that have been doing a variation of that sound for years and years.

Meh. Let me simply state that I grew interested in Evanescence long before they actually became popular. I can remember desperately searching Google for information about the band, and encountering only one site that even mentioned them in passing.

Although I initially liked their sound, I was surprised to hear Evanescence's singles being played on nearly every radio station in my area. As is the case with Linkin Park, their songs are catchy, but don't vary much in terms of melody or general atmosphere.

I hate the christianity references.

There's a lot better bands out there--check the ones Tony stated. Those are probably far better, and from what I've heard of Curve, there's no doubt that they are better lol.

"Bring Me to Life" was honestly a good song, but I've already heard it enough, and with a general audience that worships this band, and coon over them, and knowing that there's better out there, I'm going to go with what's better out there, heh.

I enjoy there music alot and find there songs very interesting especially. My favorite songs are "Whisper" and "My Last Breath". They made a excelent video in "Bring Me to Life" also. At first I thought the group was going to be completely Gothic and seeing the CD cover in the music store didn't comfort my fears(Amy the vocalist looked kinda like Marilyn Manson on it.) I got the CD anyways, and realized it was actually more Christian then Gothic in nature.

I don't really believe they are worthy of 5 Grammy nominations though. The only nomations I agree with are Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance. I must admit though, I would much rather see them win then Fountain of Waynes.

Simple solution: Turn off the Radio.

I personally am a fan of this band, although I don't think they make it into my favourites. Anyhoo, I support anything that has to do with Rocky Gray (Drums). I think that he's one of the most amazing (metal) musicians currently out there. He used to be in the band Living Sacrifice, and currently has his own band, Soul Embraced. I feel he should get a lot more credit for being in Evanescence, it seems that whenever their is a special with them on, it's always just Ben Moody, and Amy Lee. So yeah... Rocky Gray forever.

I love Evanescence. I have loved them ever since they first came out. Amy Lee changes her appearances soo much and I find it awsome. She makes up her own outfits to wear. And she is extremely hot. lol

I agree with their songs being overplayed on radio and Much Music. But I can still not get over them. They play really cool and she sings so amazingly well!
The drummer of that band interests me on how he plays some of theirs songs.
Ben also surprises me.... I think it was him who played on the Teen Choice Awards or something when they played Live in a Carnival. The Guitarist had to scream instead of the guy from 12 Stones. He did the most amazing job at screaming. My eyes opened so wide lol!

He did the same at Live @ Much but it wasnt as good...

Sorry for Babblin on.. plain and simple, they rock!!!!!

Excuse me, but how does becoming famous automatically make them sell-outs? I've never understood that kind of logic. The vast majority of artists--whether they're musicians, painters, writers, poets, or anything else--want money and recognition for their work.

In fact, Evanescence's sound hasn't changed at all since their first demos were released. Artistic stagnancy is obviously not a positive attribute, but you can't accuse them of altering their message or music in order to gain commercial success. Many of the songs on their debut CD are just recycled from their early demos, and the changes that were made to them are quite negligible.

Don't even bother to argue it. This is brought up time and time again by various people and there is nothing logical that ever justifies the opinion. People use "poseur" and "sell out" for everything lately. I can't even think of many bands I'd consider to be sell outs. Hell, if you want to consider Evanescence one, you might as well consider every band that gets signed by a major label one.

I totally agree with Semjaza on this. The turm "sell out" gets thrown around too much. Evanescence is getting money for something they love doing, it is like a dream for them. Think of it this way, if you could pick one thing that you love doing most and get paid for doing it, then are you a sell out? Maybe I am off base on the term, but thats what I see when I think about the turm sell out. However, if you are going to only make music to sell it and then merchandise the hell out of it, maybe you are a sell out.

I bought my sister the Evanescence cd "Fallen" for christmas then ganked it when I went back to college, because I wanted to listen to it. As much as I like all the songs that have been overplayed on the radio, it is always good to hear fresh sounds. That is why I personally only really like the middle and end tracks of this cd. The other tracks are good, but I personally like from "Haunted" to "Whisper". Fresh it good.

My brother and I are huge fans of Evanescence. I don't have a problem with their songs being repeated again and again. I've listened to every song they made in their first album. I mean "Bring me to Life" was great; and "Going Under" was cool. The music videos are wicked cool.

Out of every music, the only favorites I love was "Whisper." That song blew my heart away and made my soul jump when I heard the choir sing. All their songs blew my heart away; and it's not a bad thing too.

Evanescence ROCK!!! :excited: :excited:

Well when you listen to radio, thats what happens, songs get overplayed, so thats why you don't listen to the radio, its just plain annoying. But yea on the topic, evanescence is awesome. I love their new song, my immortal, and im hoping to get the rest of the piano part learned so i can eventually play/sing it. But yea they're one of my favorite rock bands right now, and so many others are just some type of bubblegum pop crap, and they're not, so its pretty cool.

I dont like Evanescence at all. Quite frankly They produce songs that make me want to go and slit my wrists. I can't stand it when "Bring me to life" or woteva it's called gets played on the radio. But that's just my opinion. I know plenty of people who love the band.

Make you want to slit your wrists...? Trust me, there is a HELL of alot more music out there that cause that besides Evanescence. If anything though, "Bring me to Life" is the opposite. To me, she's producing the thought that she has a chance, like right now, she's in a dream and she wants you to wake her up...

Woah...I know I've listened to too much Linking Park now cause when ever I do, I start to really think about the music around me. Well...that's my opinion.
