Heretic_Hatred
I have used something from Ranma 1/2 in an elementary report. I wrote that i was ryoga and made a story. But other than that i havent used any anime on school projects. My friend used "How to simply draw Anime." as a science fair and won first, but thats all i've seen. Dagger
Yeah, I use anime and manga in my school related projects. I find it adds a bit of color and variety. I hope that my input helps.
Barra Maral, I'm glad that you're trying to help out, but this post should be more in-depth. One or two sentences won't be of any assistance to Marron347. How do you use anime and manga in school-related projects? Next time, please respond with some specific, detailed examples, and explain why anime/manga "[add] a bit of color and variety." ~Dagger~
Dagger
No but I did when I drew something for my teacher everybody thinks I draw so good. ;)
Welcome to OtakuBoards, Kagome 1. ^_^ Before you post again, please read our rules very, very carefully. They explain why your reply is considered spam. If you have any questions about how to improve your post quality, feel free to PM me. Never forget that one-line posts will not pass muster here. erinzyger
*chuckles as she remembers her 6th grade writing/spelling projects* I remember one of the last vocabulary projects I had in the sixth grade, I wrote a fanfic about Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, and a car. It was...strange. Now that I think about it. In Computer this year, I made a door sign for my room for extra credit and used a bunch of anime quotes and pictures of Legato (Trigun), Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII), Koryuu (Wish), and someone else. I don't feel like walking upstairs to check. Got full marks for it, by the way. And I did a whole huge PowerPoint presentation biography on Hayao Miyazaki. It would have been a wonderful grade! I had it animated, backgrounded, transitions, and everything! But...my teacher never graded it...*sob*...It was only extra credit, but...He didn't even look at it! But I got a 100 in the class anyways. Wacha. I haven't had much experience in anime in art. We don't do drawing people until 8th grade. Gah. I might have drawn a few anime-style people in other classes, but hey, I can't remember. Oh well. -Catie
DeathBug
*shrugs* If it fits with the assignment, why not? I've used everything for school assignments, from anime to the OtakuBoards to comics books to the Kids in the Hall. Creativity is always a plus. Most recently, I used a pic of the Harpie Lady sisters from yU-Gi-Oh for the cover image of a report on the sirens. ^__^
Shadow Wolf
If it weren't for this subject, I'd have forgotten about that one reading assignment I had to do over the weekend. We had to illustrate a scene from Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli. I picked the one where Maniac asked Grayson what he had always wanted to do as a kid. It is turning out rather awesome, but we are supposed to color it. Do you think a charcoal will count?
Kwai
I don't recall ever using anime for any school assignment. I guess anime was too close and too common to me that I never even thought of it as a topic or alternative that could be used for school work. Besides, if I had to do an essay on how Japanese culture influence the U.S. or what not, I could always pull up other sources without depending on anime. Anime, if I ever use it, would probably be the last resort.
Kinoko Shima
Aw! No fair! You guys are so lucky! I've tried to use anime for projects and reports. But unfortunately, the people around here doesn't like anime. At all. A recent example is I made a powerpoint presentation on the origins of anime. The teacher had told us to make a presentation on the origins of something, so I did. When I showed it to the class, the students told me to "Grow up" and the teacher told me to put more thought into it and to do the presentation on something worthwhile. I got a C+. I spent three weeks making that thing! Even my mom, who doesn't care for anime, said that my presentation was at least B+ material. So therefore, I don't use anime for anything school related much anymore. *sigh* Life is so unfair..... :flaming:
shikonjewel777
I'm useing InuYasha as a Power Point topic for Computers. My friends think i'm crazy, but that's never stopped me. If i get a chance i'll use more anime for projects. :D
Fushigi Rockna
One of my school's teachers made up this class called CERDADO. (I can't remember what that stood for) and it was a debating class. (WHAT-EVVVVVVVEEEERRR. Most of what we did 90% of the time was surf the internet. Serious to god. He didn't give a crap). Anyways one of the few assignments we did (and when I say few I mean FEW. We only did TWO assignments.) was on a topic of our choice, so I did my assignment on whether or not fanfiction and doujinshi should be illegal. I don't think I got good marks on it, and this jerk made fun of me. ***.... :shifty: Anywho other than that, there's been my art projects. XD All I ever do is anime drawings. Also in alot of my assignments, anime will come up in one of the paragraphs (like suppose I did a report on the planets. I'd mention that the reason I like the planets is because my interest in them started thanks to Sailor Moon) BOTH of the school's art teachers like anime/manga drawings. The main art teacher simply adores them. The other one (mine) well... she likes any style of drawing. She says I'm really good and stuff. (Which I'm not! Why does everyone say I'm good!? Compared to other people, I suck shitake.)
Guest ScirosDarkblade
At OSU (Ohio State University) there's a course (Art Education 694) that was called Anime and Manga (its name might have changed this quarter) that I took last quarter. It was an analysis of the manga/anime explosion as a phenomenon in the United States, as well as a study of it as an art form. We watched several kinds of anime, and discussed the various genres and how they came about. Stuff like that. It was a pretty serious class, and I think we overanalyzed a lot of things, but nevertheless it was interesting. That's really the only class I "used anime and manga" for. But it does mean that the subject has educational merit. I certainly think that the various anime sites shouldn't be blocked in schools. ...Especially something like otakuboards, which is one of the most well moderated forums I know of. It's never inappropriate, and has plenty of insightful and meaningful discussions. Not to mention the fact that mostly schoolchildren frequent it. Balinese
*laughs* i was just planning a project i have to do... at the beginning of the school year, we had to create a collage that represented us for an art class. i went to google and picked up a few pics of anime characters including Duo Maxwell and Vash the Stampede, then pasted them to a piece of paper with a few quotes from different animes (see the Anime Quotes thread, i used most of them). i got an A too ^_^ then when we had to decorate our folders, i used Pokemon pics and anime quotes. Then when i was told to do an elective project, i created an anime website based on Weiss... got an A, even though it needs a LOT of work. Now, since i'm forced to be in afternoon school (i wasn't able to find a job before 4th quarter, and an afternoon program is a requirement), i've decided to write a paper on ethics in anime, and different philosophies in anime, using Trigun, Gundam Wing, Cowboy Bebop, and Angel Sanctuary as sources. my teacher says it'll be very good for my writing skills ( )
maikiratori
I use anime in anything school related whenever I can!! I mean if I can get away with it, then I do it... In English the other day, I used variation of the "Traveler" story in Fruits Basket and then I wrote a poem kind of explaining the characters and all.. I got a way with it *cheesey look* Oh yeah!! I'm sooo goood! *pose*
Prismatic Tears
Hmmmm, Update. Well I finished my anime project, for a complete success. I got 19/20 on total and i think it was its because of the ill use of it. most of the poeple in my class had no idea what it was about, I was stricken when I was pelted by comments like " oh you mean hentai " I stopped dead at that moment. My impassioned speach that proceeded after that bout of ignorance is problably what gave me my mark. Well also the fact that I gave a 15 minute visual presentation about different genre and styles that come into anime. In the end of my 5 minute oral, ( which turned into a 20 minute oral ) I had greatly smartened up all the people that have to do with my class ( and the people enjoyed it ). I was never more satisfied when I heard people asking me for more anime. After this one experience I have decided that I shall " Enlighten " people to anime in my school, leading to a mass group of us beginning to trade different animes, dvd or cd alike. Dagger
i am going up tomorrow to do a presentation oral on a style of film so i am doing it on anime its a 10 minute oral with visual presentation so i am going to use a preview of either full metal panic or Noir and i got really into its like twice its supposed length and i am going into great detail about the differences between styles of anime and what not oh its gonna be fun
Hello there. ^_^ I would be extraordinarily happy if you took a couple minutes to edit and polish your reply. It could use some commas, periods and other strategically placed marks of punctuation, and the lack of capitalization is also quite disorienting. Amarris
yeah, i used anime once for a school project when i was in high school. it was my senior year and i had to give a 10 minute oral report. i did the report on iria zeiram, bgc 2032 and sailor moon. i basically just went over the plots to the shows. the only anime that any of my classmates knew was sailor moon. and i had this nifty posterboard with a collage on it with pictures from all of the anime. i would have gotten an a plus on it, but my teacher said the pictures were too small and that people sitting in the back of class couldnt see them so he took TWENTY points off!!!! TWENTY!! :flaming: oh well..it was a damn cool poster though because everyone wanted to see it, so i passed it around the classroom.
Monkey_Orange
Ack, I'm a bit too old to use anime in my projects. Plus, it wouldn't really apply to what I'm doing. HOWEVER, I did help my younger sister use anime for a class project. Her assignment was to create a Periodic Table of her hobby. And yes, the table was required to have trends. So we combined our heads and completed the project. She ended up dividing her table into 4 main groups: anime TV, anime Movies, TV, and Movies. Each group was further divided into genres. Each genres was listed by which show or movie she liked best. Trust me, it sounds easier than it actually is. Overall, she got an "A". The poster is now hanging on the wall in her room ^^
Akiya Debisu
I get ticked off about them blocking forums too. :flaming: It's not like it's a bad thing....but anyways....I use it all the time. I had to do a report on some one important and why they're important, and i did Hinorobu Sakaguchi (creator af Final Fantasy) and got a 67 on it for english, but in another class, Computer Lit. I got a 97...it made me chuckle, and for a book report I used Love Hina Volume 3 and got a 99. I love written about stuff I'm iterested in...it's so fun :D
