Star Wars: Prelude to The Empire Strikes Back

It is a pivotal moment for the Galactic Empire.
After the destruction of its Death Star battle station, the Empire looks vulnerable to its opposition across the galaxy. Many systems have, as a result of this great victory for the Galactic Alliance, declared war on the Empire.

To quell this rising problem, a radically different TIE squadron has been formed. Its mission will be to eliminate a large contingent of the new rebel forces, fighter squadrons attempting to mimic the success of Luke Skywalker's Rogue Squadron.

This new Imperial Force is due to arrive on Coruscant shortly to begin training...

Should you sign up, you will be playing the part of one of these skilled pilots who are about to undergo training for this new squadron.

Your choice of ships is as follows:

This is the original TIE, or Twin Ion Engine, fighter craft of the Imperial Navy. Although it lacks shields, it is faster than any other fighter craft and offers superior maneuverability. It performs poorly in atmosphere however, and is a short range fighter.

Above is the TIE interceptor, which features a slightly different configuration than the TIE fighter. While less maneuverable and slightly slower than the original TIE, it offers shields to it?s pilot. It is also equipped with a hyperdrive, making it capable of long-range travel.

The cutting edge in Imperial fighter technology, the very first TIE Defenders are now available to specially selected Imperial pilots. These ships feature proton torpedoes and an ion cannon, making it much more heavily armed than its predecessors. While slower than the TIE Interceptor, the TIE Defender offers slightly better shields. This craft is equipped with a Hyperdrive, and is capable of long-range travel.

The TIE Bomber is the slowest of the TIE fighter series, but is the only one capable of carrying large quantities of warheads. It lacks shields and is also hard to maneuver, making career TIE Bomber pilots extremely rare. Despite it?s drawbacks, it is a devastating weapon when used correctly.
You may choose to be trained in flying any of the three fighters you choose and all characters will undergo bomber training for specialized missions.

Your choice of weapons is as follows:

The E-11 blaster rifle is the size of a normal carbine, despite its name. This rifle is known the galaxy over for its durability, reliability and power. It?s power pack stores enough energy for 100 shots before it needs to be changed.

The Imperial Scout pistol is a light weapon is easily concealed, but doesn?t pack as much power as the E-11 blaster rifle. It is used mostly by Imperial officers and non-combat personnel. It?s power pack stores enough energy for 50 shots before it needs to be changed.

Your character will also be issued the following:

A standard issue Imperial Comlink, used to contact other Imperials within the area. Don?t leave home without it.

This will be your uniform. Take care of it, and it will take care of you in turn. Your uniform will be your protection from the deadly vacuum of space.

This RPG is set immediately after the events contained in the classic motion picture Star Wars: A New Hope. You will be playing the part of a human Imperial character. If you wish to join as an alien, make sure that alien is within the Star Wars genre and make a full explanation of how your character was allowed into the Imperial Armed Forces, which has a history of extreme bias against non-humans.

You will need to post the following in your sign up:

Name: What do people call you?

Age: Ages 18 through 30 only.

Species: If you?re not human, this needs to be fully explained in your biography

Homeworld: Suggested, but not limited to: Alderaan, Corellia, Coruscant, Kuat.

Ship of Choice: TIE Fighter, TIE Interceptor or TIE Defender

Appearance: What you look like under your flight suit

Biography: Your life until this point

Other: Anything else we might be interested in knowing about your character?

I encourage anyone with any kind of interest whatsoever in Star Wars to join this RPG and I?ll be happy to answer any questions regarding it via PM.

Just one thing... I was under the belief that the TIE Interceptor was the quickest and most agile of the TIE craft.

Name: Jodo Bavre [Bar-v]

Age: 26

Species: Human

Homeworld: Correlia

Ship of Choice: TIE Interceptor

Appearance: Jodo has hazel eyes and deep brown hair that spikes up scruffily. Always has a 5 o'clock about his face. He stands at 6'2" and weighs 220 lbs. His body is toned but not big, and he has many scars about his person, the most noticable being a scar that runs down over the left side of his forehead, over (not through) the left eye, down onto the left cheek.

Biography: Jodo was born and raised in Tyrena, one of Corellia's many coastal cities. Jodo's father worked in CorSec, whilst his mother stayed at home, taking care of him and his two brothers. His childhood was nothing special, he had always dreamed of following in his fathers footsteps and join CorSec. From a very young age he had a fascination for flying. His father had owned a T-16, and since Jodo could talk he had been asking his father to teach him how to fly it. It wasn't until he was 12, however, that Jodo's father taught him how to fly, and since then there was no turning back. Every spare moment Jodo had in a day he would use behind the controls of the Skyhopper. Once he turned 18, he began contemplating joining CorSec, but during his adolescence the Galactic Empire had come to power. Jodo had discussed frequently with his father about joining the Empire, and his father had no objections to it, despite the fact that Jodo would be away for great lengths of time. In the end Jodo joined the Empire's flight divisions, and went into basic flight training. Once that was done, Jodo flew in grunt squadrons for a while, when eventually his talent was noticed and he was assigned to Venom Squad, and was present at the battle of Yavin IV that proceeded the destruction of the mighty Death Star. He was awarded for his prowess in that battle with an invitation to join a new TIE Squadron that was to be formed on Imperial Centre, and he was to go there for training. Naturallt, Jodo accepted such a promising offer.

Other: Although an excellent pilot, Jodo has sometimes been known to be too headstrong. He finds it very hard to accept that a battle is lost, and will often be found getting into fights to big for even him. Most of his Squadron members wonder how he is still alive.

Correct. However, Sienar Fleet Systems originally designed the TIE Interceptor without shields. These TIE interceptors were in service, without shields, until the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn. He realized that times had changed in the Empire, and that Imperial pilots were a lot harder to come by then they?d been before the destruction of the Second Death Star. This led him to order shield generators and hyperdrives installed in TIE Interceptors. The new shields reduced the ship?s agility and the added weight of a hyperdrive and a shield generator slowed the ship considerably. The TIE Interceptor, according to the X-Wing series, is as fast as a X-Wing. The X-Wing is slightly slower than a TIE fighter, and therefore the TIE Interceptor is slower than the TIE fighter.

I have introduced modified TIE fighters earlier than they are mentioned in the canon, but it would not have been difficult to make these modifications in the time period in which this RPG is set. I consider it a liberal use of dramatic license.

If you wish to fly a TIE Interceptor without a hyperdrive or shields, you can go for it Yoda. It?ll be more dangerous, but I?m sure you can handle it.

OOC: What happened to the other starwars rpg we were in? :-\

Name: Carren Taeis {Tay-s}

Age: 26

Species: Human

Homeworld: Cardia (I assume you understand his choice of allegiance ;) )

Ship of Choice:TIE Interceptor (only a hyperdrive installed)

Appearance: Carren is the poster-child for the Imperial Academy on Cardia. He has a moderate frame, more lean than muscular. And most people swear by the Rusaan Binary system that they can see his bright green eyes shining through his flight mask.

Biography: Carren was destined to be a pilot. His father flew, his grandfather flew, and he would fly. Growing up in an imperial apex of Cardia, he was exposed to the values of the Empire from a young age. The Empire has always been veiwed as right in his eyes, and he would defend it as his fathers defended their societies. When he turned 10, Carren began saving up money to join the Imperial Flight Academy on Cardia. By the time he was 15 he spent some of his money on a fake holo-ID in order to enter the Academy early. He was eventually caught and almost incriminated. However, he offered a duel with his flight instructor with the stakes of staying in the Academy if he were to win, or going to a prison cell for the maximum penalty for a fake holo-ID. He pulled maneuvers with his TIE that strained the limits of the craft untill he finally defeated the instructor with a self-invented immmelman-like attack. This prodigious effort gained him prestige quickly and he was promoted as the youngest flight instructor at the ripe age of 25. His TIE interceptor was never re-issued, and he used his personal-points to put in special request for a hyperdrive. Because of this modification, he was able to move up the list of selectees for this new squadron forming in the Imperial City. Always dreaming of serving the Empire at the legendary city, he accepted the offer without hesitation.

Other: Carren is anything but by-the-book when it comes to flying. He realizes the importance of a personal dogfight and his arrogance with the TIE's have parylized his career to a certain extent. This may bother other characters. However, Carren hasn't seen much actual combat and the reality of real war hasn't yet struck his pride down to reveal his true naievete. He is still young, after all, and not as wise as he might assume.

Yoda, you have some definate ego-competition with this guy ;)

-------------

I've checked my Guide to Ships, Technical Manual, and the Star wars encyclopedia. They all list the TIE interceptor as the second fastest fighter next to the A-Wing, yet slightly more maneuverable because of the four-engine configuration. The X-Wing is actually fairly low on the list, however it can take far more damage and cause a great deal more damage.
