Artemis
Does anyone else here do Forensics? (as in Speech and Drama, not the science.) I started last year, and I love it!! The next season is starting, and this year, I'm performing a duet from The Hobbit. My friend and I are doing the riddle sequence, and I get to be Gollum!! It's really exciting! I also have a prose piece I'm reading from Les Miserables. It should be good, too. This thread can also apply to drama and debate people as Forensics is a combination of the two. Patronus
I'd do it if they offered it here, lol. The closest thing we have to it is speech class - which is totally different from what you're talking about. It teaches you how to write and read speeches, etc. Then we have Drama Club, which I am associated with. I'm a freshmen, so I've only been in one play, the Fall Play, which was M*A*S*H, and I played Father Mulcahy. The Spring Musical is coming up so soon - it's going to be Cinderella, either the original or a retold version, I don't know. But I want to be Gus.
MarkM
My school has a very good drama program. We have a wonderful teacher in the area also. So yes we do have a drama class/program. I was in it last year and took second place in the state turnament in Duo interpertation. My friend and I's peice was the Pet Shop by Monty python (both of them). Acually, i had a play yesterday which was 'The Twelfth Night' bye Willam Shakespear, which was in another drama class. My district is lucky to have such a good program... Minako
Our school has a drama club, which I'm in. We did a play called, "Finder's Creepers" in the fall. It's a hilarious play about a funeral home and it was a smash hit! Now we're doing a musical called, "Krazy Kamp." It's kind of corny but it's still fun! I don't know if any of these are familiar to you but we had lots of fun putting the play on and we put the musical on in march. I haven't taken drama class yet but I plan to take it senior year. (I'm a sophomore.)
Sara
I'm in drama as well, and joining it was really the best thing I've done during high school. I can't imagine what I would have done, had I not tried out for the play the summer of my sophomore year. I think I've only really gotten to know a two people outside of drama--it's not necessarily that we're elitist (heh), but that's just how it turned out for me. Our school has about 230 people, so there's a lot of overlap when you get to know people. And for me, it ended up that a.) I met my friends through drama, or b.) I forced them to join drama after they became my friends. It's really a great activity to be in. Our director (who also does all the the English/literature/drama related electives, as well as AP senior literature and all the freshman English courses) is fun, and somehow manages to keep everything under control. (Well...relatively so. ;)) Practices are fun, because they're really relaxed. Especially when you get a good group of people who are able to learn their lines and blocking quickly--you can do lots of fun stuff when you've already got the basics down. My sophomore year we did the whole play in "fast forward" mode once or twice, which was hilarious. All the coolest people are in drama.
Carr
Gee, Sara does that mean you aren't shunning me anymore? Seeing as I 'm one of those coolest drama people. I would be one of those that Sara "forced" to join drama. I was terrified to be in a play, but I tried it. It wasn't to bad. Nothing I would dedicate my life to, but fun none-the-less. Drama's cool and I'm ok at it, but it's just not my favorite.
DeathBug
I have a bad forensics experience... Yeah, the sponser of our school's forensics club didn't pass any information on to the officers. Then, he dissolved the group after there were accusations of him hitting on a student. We never even got to debate. Now we don't have a Forensics club. --;
Artemis
I wish I'd done more with drama. I'm going to be in the musical (Jekyll and Hyde) this year, and I'm really excited! (Even though I'll probably only be in the chorus.) The one thing that bugs me about it is that I can already see that there will be backstage dramas. One being that at least three of our guys are gay at a Catholic school....The other being that our drama people can be kinda two-faced....there's a lot of backstabbing going on....such is high school... Last year, in Forensics, I performed an Informative Speech about the history of Pepsi and Coke and a Prose from The Phantom Tollbooth about Milo's lost week (he conducts the color symphony and makes the sun go too fast.) It had a lot of description and was great fun to perform! I was pretty surprised because last year, as a novice, I won more medals than anyone else in Forensics (which I think may have pissed off another girl in my grade who's been in it since freshman year...haa haa!) :demon: ~art~
