Dagger
I've noticed that some RPG creators feel the need to thank/praise/encourage every single person who signs up for his or her RPGs. If this practice was restricted to PMs, I wouldn't have any problem with it--but I don't think people should be allowed to add one or two line posts like, "I'm so glad you joined; now we just need a few more members. Tell all your friends!" Doing that invariably ends up bumping the thread to the top of the page and, consequently, making it less likely that other recruitment threads will be noticed. A couple of days ago I joined a new RPG, and almost immediately received a very gracious PM from its creator. If everyone behaved like that (rather than adding unnecessary posts to their sign-up threads), the Recruitment forum would be a far cleaner and more pleasant place to frequent. Just a thought. ~Dagger~
Ryu_Sakura
I agree, but it should also include when it will start, because havn't you noticed, the sign-up is at the bottom of the page, you re-fresh it, and suddenly its at the top with a 1 line post saying: "Great I think we have enough people let's start this." Three days later. "OK, this will be fun, I can't wait for it to start." The next day, "Alright I'll start this now, is every one ok with that. it's under "_________" Ok? please post." Now those were really unneeded, that whole thing could have been done through pm-ing, and have saved other, newer RPGs the chance to even get sign-ups. Warlock
*nods* It would be nice if people didn't do that; really, the only time they need to post again is when they need to point out mistakes and such in people's sign ups. Though of course, currently, it's a draining job to PM every single person. But from what I've heard, v7 will allow people to PM multiple people with the same message, so then, it would be a great thing to do. But in Recruitment threads, people should really just use common sense and restrict their posts to important things, instead of saying 'Only need one more now' or, as Ryu said, 'I can't wait for this to start'. Ah, I really should've put a rule or two like that up back when I was Mod of AA and the Recruitment forum. Oh well, I'm sure with the new version, some rules relating to this can be put up. James
I can see how this can be a somewhat annoying practice, however, I also feel that Recruitment threads are useful for people to ask/answer questions. For example, someone may want to change their sign up, but they're not sure if their new idea will gel with what the creator has intended. If the person asks publicly, then every other participant will see the question and the answer. That may help to solve some confusion amongst other players. The only main problem I have with Recruitment threads is definitely when people post totally inane stuff like "Thanks for joining!" But obviously, that stuff falls under our rules anyway -- posts that have no real content or merit are spam. I think it's pretty clear that many of these posts probably fall under that classification. But if people want to actually discuss the RPG before it starts, to sort certain things out...I think that's fine. So, this is really something that I tend to leave up to the discretion of the individual Moderators who are responsible for that area. Some of these things only barely fall inside/outside the specific rules...so at that point, it's up to a staff member to decide what to do about it.
The Harlequin
If you see posts like that, than hit the Report Post button. They annoy me as much as they annoy everyone else, probably more so, since I'm constantly telling people to stop writing them. James covered the reason some posts are other than sign ups are allowed in recruitment thread, and I'm damn sure I've told everybody who reguarly posts in AA at least twice not to spam in such threads. And if I haven't directly told them, they'd certainly have participated in a thread where I've mentioned it. I'll make a direct issue of it in the rules thread there, and see if that actually has an effect.
Vicky
But sometimes people do post like that to give people more information, like how many they need to start it, and that stops people asking when it starts. I sometimes even post on my sign-up, for no reason but, hey, sometimes I do it to tell people when we start.

Anything in there you object to, or don't understand, simply PM me, and I'll be more than happy to explain it to you.
