old songs

you know those old songs that are really messed up but for some reason, they are just.....awesome? Like the 'Saftey Dance' by the Men Without Hats. I think its the stupidest song ever but I love it...I have no idea why! Then theres 'They're coming to take me away' by Dr.Demento. ahh....classics. lol. Anyway, the purpose of this thread: I was wondering if any one else knew a song that they couldn't get out of they're head, even though its old and stupid? lol. dumb i know, but i HAD to ask. lol.

Ahhh...the wonderful 80s! what a great time to be born! I abosultely love 80's music, and i just loved watching the "I love the 80's". It just brings back so many memories...

The only song i can really think of right now, is "Whip It". The music video for that song....watching it when your just a little girl....people with plant pots on their heads....using a whip....i think you get the picture.

Don't get me wrong, its a great song, and the 80's where an awesome time. That is just something that sticks out when i think back on my childhood.

Safety Dance! Oh God, my friend and I were having a convo about that song just the other day. I really like it. Another one that I like, that's semi-old and crazy, is the 'Cause I'm A Blonde song by Julie Brown. Lord, that was a hillarious song. Especially when you put people to it.

Too many cool ones-like all of them. I realyl can't think of one I don't like. I praticuly like anything done by Prince. Okay so 1999 has come and gone but it's just so cool. Paula Abdul's Straight up is awsome too. i love that song :toothy: Okay so *technically* I like all 80s songs but I guess that's why I'm callled "80s rocker" by my dad...heh

Ok, its not neccesarily songs I like, but some songs I ABSOLUTLEY have never been able to get out of my head are, the theme from The Facts Of Life. I have no idea why, but I never forget the words, and its always randomly popping into my head. I do not even remember ever seeing the show, but that song is always in my head.

i can never get safety dance out of my head once its in there. i think the 80s are looked upon as some sort of great age mainly because we aren't in them now. like in a few years the 90s will be some kind of golden decade, just goes to show that masses of people have selective memory

I can't get 'Turning Japanese' out of my head for some reason and 'Girls just wanna have fun'. Aaaargh!!!! I get heaps of random old songs stuck in my head though. Old songs are the worst for that.

[color=crimson]"Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "Rubberband Man" are my favorite older songs. The first one is just so much fun to sing to, and it has a great beat. I don't know why I like the second one. My mother gave me a 70s cd and it was on there, and it was an instant favorite.

[FONT="Arial"]"Enjoy the Silence" by [B]Depeche Mode[/B] is my absolute favorite song to hear on the radio (the only station I listen to is "the best of the eighties and more!") I'm not sure why, but it makes me incredibly happy. It reminds me of rain, which always pleases me, and it's so great to sing along to.

There are a few other songs I love to hear on that station, but none of them compare to this.[/FONT]

Anyway. My favorite old songs... Hm. Well. This will be hard. Not to name. But to explain. :/. I might as well clear up the major ones. Any song by [B]The Germs[/B]. Any song by [B]SSD[/B]. Any song off of the self-titled [B]Die Kreuzen[/B] album. Any song by [B]Saetia[/B], [B]pg.99[/B], and [B]At the Drive- In[/B] as well. Almost all the songs by [B]Iron Maiden[/B].

Now, I'll name the individuals.

"The Promise"- [B]When In Rome[/b]
Beautiful song. Has that great 80's beat as well, that was passed from song to song. The lyrics are some of my favorites, and who could forget that opening riff? Great song.

"Love, Reign O'er Me"- [B]The Who[/B] (also adore the [B]Pearl Jam[/B] cover)
This really gave me a taste of the singer's powerful voice. Wow. He really was one of the best singers of his time. Great lyrics as well. From a musical stand point, the song was kind of epic in a way, and was well written. The Who were pretty original for their time, I think.

"Paint it Black"- [B]The Rolling Stones[/B]
Haha. "I see a red door and I want it painted black. No colours anymore, I want them to turn black." YES. Good job Rolling Stones for expressing their angst, and setting a guideline for the rest of the rock music world. lol. Very dark song, but a great one to sing along to. Fun to sing to, too, if you ever had a friend that owned [I]Singstar Rocks![/I]. Like twenty bands have done a cover of this song as well, from [B]The Agony Scene[/B] to [B]The Unseen[/B].

I also enjoy pretty much any [B]Police[/B], or [B]Nirvana[/B] song.

And last but heck no, not least.

"Edge of Seventeen"- [B]Stevie Nicks[/B]
Good lord, I've never heard such an epic pop diva song, haha. This song is just... Weeee. Epic. Strangely, but yes. I don't know if any pop diva of that time could have pulled off a song like this other than Stevie. Sexii lady, you are. Great song to sing along to when you're with a big group of friends riding around in a vehicle. Indeed.[/COLOR][/SIZE]
