Chibi Subaru
I've run into some problems on the boards, such as not being able to post, having to look hard for links, being confused about private messaging.. and the like. As a regular at many different forums, I suggest an easier-to-operate board setup.. Might I suggest phpBB boards? It would be much easier on all of us who are having trouble with the controls. Boards run on phpBB are very easy to get around. But of course, this is just a suggestion, and as of this moment, I'm just a newbie. Thanks for reading. ^_^
AzureWolf
In my experience, forums that run under vBulletin seem to conform less than those under phpBB. In other words, you've seen one phpBB forum, you've seen them all. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I like diversity. Plus, even with how diverse vB can be, if you are familiar with one forum that uses it, it's not so hard to get used to another forum. I figure your problem is just like the PS vs. PSP debate: you're used to one so you [strike]don't[/strike] can't like the other.
Baron Samedi
Not to be unkind, but everyone else copes fine with these Boards. I don't think we're going to change anything much. However, v7 is going to be launched sometime soon, which will supposedly be a lot easier to navigate. You have only been here 'a few minutes' kind of thing, so give it a try. They're pretty easy to navigate once you get used to them. I have never heard of any other problems to it- it is a relatively straightforward setup. So, give it a decent go at least. Patronus
No, no, no. Those are cheap looking, and James and Adam have worked hard to make OB what it is today; easy and good looking.
Chibi Subaru
I wrote out a long reply to this but the board had logged me out. >.> I guess you guys are right. You've all been here longer, so you automatically have respect for that. Looking at my post now, it looks.. strange.. Maybe k0g was right. I'm a closet n00b. James
I guess that it comes down to what you are used to, Chibi. If you've always been using phpBB, then you're more likely to be used to that than the vB setup. However, I think that there are reasons why vB is generally considered to be the industry leader as far as forum technology goes. Although it may take some time to get used to, if you aren't familiar with it, vB has a lot of powerful features that other boards don't have. When we update to OB7, you're definitely going to see another big change. And that may be a bit confusing at first. But I think it's fair to say that those who have seen vB3 are aware that it's a lot better than what is out there at the moment -- it just takes a little time to adjust. ^_^
Semjaza
It's just something new to learn, really. I find PHPbb weird to use personally, as I'm not all that used to it. However, PHPbb is a massive step back from vB in every sense, so one would be smart not to make that change.
Muad'Dib
Ya know, I think the TechTV message boards use that PHPBB stuff... and if they do, it really is very very low tech. (hows that for an oxymoron?) Anyway, even if you did convince James or Charles to change the site (not likely) then there would be a lot of pis-- I mean, ticked off members. People like this site because it looks professional. Just give yourself some time, PM a few people, and you'll be an expert before ya know it! And when you do reach that level, you'll be surprised at yourself, looking back on when you were still confused about it.
