Chichiri's Girl Posted January 20, 2004 Share Posted January 20, 2004 Well I have tried to avoid the show on the WB that they call 'Card Captors' as much as possible. Even since I read the manga I just seemed...[i]way[/i] off. The way they messed up the names...scares me.*shudders* They certainly butchered up all the relationships into tiny little peices so that you could never tell someone liked someone.(Except for the ones you knew were there signs or not) Toyua and Yuki? Gone. Tomoyo and Sakura? Gone. I haven't seen read much of the reviews for the second season but I have a feeling if I do I'll pity Ruby Moon...Probably took out Eriol and [spoiler] ha wouldn't wanna ruin it for ya![/spoiler] too....*sighs* Fromt he manga I don't remeber any incest though. *shrugs* I wonder who it was....but this is basically what happens when you give the WB an anime. I avoided it like the plague when it came out here because I heard that they totally butchered everything, and the voices were especially horrific. I feel lucky that I've been able to only see the original Japanese because I don't think I could take anyone destroying one of my favorite cutesy shows. The Sealed Card is a great movie, and I absolutely love the interaction between Sakura and Syaoran. They're just too cute together, aren't they? From what I read online, they completely took out all the shounen-ai implications which I absolutely adored, and they also gave Li a more prominent role in capturing the cards when I feel in the original, it's shown that Sakura really doesn't have that much competition when it comes to being the Card Mistress. The story is supposed to revolve around her, but from sources online, it seems as though they made Li almost more important to attract boys to the series. AthenAltena Posted January 25, 2004 Share Posted January 25, 2004 The english Cardcaptors was one of my first animes, but now that I've seen it in it's original form I think the English version totally sucked! :( The Sealed Card is a good movie, which it just so happens I am watching while typing away at my laptop. The japanese are definately masters of the uncomfortable male/female dynamic, and it's so cute when the character's blush. My siblings, who had only seen the commercials, thought I was crazy until they watched it. Then about a year or two later, we watched CCS. Needless to say I abandoned the TV Cardcaptors. I've only seen CardCaptors, and the only thing they changed that I am aware of is the ending. I was downloading music videos and found some clips of how it really ends. I like the show, but I'm sure the Japanese version is better. It's kind of corny in the english version. And the names... like Li and Meilin, those are supposed to be their last names! But they had to "Americanize" it so that...well..I'm not quite sure [i]why[/i] they do it but it's not good when they do. It's their reciepe for ruining a perfectly good series. It was very nice, but all the good episodes were later on and I quit buying the videos and yeah... I really LOVE Sakura's friend. Tomoyko? Is that her name? It's been such a long time. She's so adorable and she's got the silliest schoolgirl crush on Sakura. It's precious. My favorite cards were the Light and the Dark. I did some really nifty fanart a while back that I should scan. There's practically no trace of Romance between Sakura and Syaoran. They only showed up to the end of the Clow Cards on normal TV. If you wanted to see the Sakura/Star Card episodes you had to have Foxtel. I saw The Sealed Card. It was so Kawaii!! In the dubbed version all of their voices are.....bad.... Madison A.K.A Tomoyo has such a kawaii, high voice in the japanese version, but it lowers significantly in the dubbed version. They also change a lot of the words in it. At least we all know that there is an un-butchered version of the Anime I know and Love. I never saw the movie but the episodes are really cool. Its shows like these that I wish we had a world with magic. It's like more than a million times better than Cardcaptors (out of curiosity, I actually got a hold of some of the Cardcaptors episodes from a friend, and I just died from how they butchered everything! sob!), and they should be available for rent o.0 And the original seiyuu are just so much better. I know that the voice actors that worked on the English dub probably worked just as hard, but in comparison to the original Japanese, the English dub just isn't as great. I get a better sense of who the characters are when I listen to the original track. There are a lot of emotions that can be felt just through the tone and pitch of the voices, and this is just one of the many ways that the Japanese version greatly outweighs the butchered English dub version (I don't even want to get started on the lack of shounen-ai implications that were lost when Cardcaptors was created, LOL). ~haruno_sakura Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

[/spoiler]. Throughout most of the anime, Sakura is quite naive and very cheerful, so it's great to see her go through different emotional levels throughout the 2nd movie. I don't even know how I would have handled her situation in which [spoiler]she had to lose her dearest feeling (her love for Syaoran) to seal up the final card, without having told him how much she loved him. And to have the card chose him as the one to take the precious feeling away from must have been quite a shock. I gotta say, tho, the movies were definitely interesting. I especially liked the ending of the second movie. (The Sealed Card, I think) Altho, it only came out not too long ago, so that probably means the third movie isn't coming out until for another long whie, right? Is there even a third movie? I'm fine...it's just that I LOVE CCS!! =DDD The songs are great, the manga art is great, the music is great, the characters are great, the story is great, the games are great, the merchandise is great, the artists who created it are great, the animation...is average. The anime I didn't really like cuz...there were ugly scenes. Like, not *blah* scenes, but there are scenes where Sakura, Tomoyo, Syaoran, etc...look blah! but that's ok. It took the gloss off it. Like the whole "there is no santa" thing takes the gloss off xmas. Anyway, I havent seen Card Captor Sakura yet, cause I'm not that anime obsessed (or wait, am I?)
