This is the transcription of the end of a duel in Apprentice. Italic is chat window. Rest is my commentaries.

Goblin Attack Force is tapped.
Goblin Attack Force is attacking.
Circeus's life is now 5700. (-2300)
Goblin Attack Force stops attacking.
Goblin Attack Force is untapped.
Breaker the Mag. Warrior stops attacking.
Breaker the Mag. Warrior is untapped.
Gemini Elf stops attacking.
Gemini Elf is untapped.
Goblin Attack Force is tapped.

So far so good: a Cybar Jar was just flipped during his battle phase, destroying a Gemini and a Vamp Lord, and he's attacking me.

It is now turn 6.
It is now the Untap Phase.
Circeus draws a card.
Zombie moves Vampire Lord from Zombie's graveyard to tabletop.

Uh?

Circeus says:'YOUR standby phase'
Circeus says:'this is MY standby phase'
Circeus says:';-)'

I do believe it is quite clear, even though Apprentice, who always list the connecting player as the 1rst one to play, tells me the contrary.

Zombie says:'ep its my standby phase'
Circeus says:'uh?'

What I said.

Circeus says:'You just ended your turn'
Circeus says:'the turn count is wrong, actually'
Zombie says:'yep now is my standby phase'
Circeus says:'The player who's connecting is always listed as the first player'
Circeus says:'*gaping mouth*'

My physical reaction

Circeus says:'That has to be the most preposterous thing I've seen for a long time'
Zombie says:'standby phase is after your turn has ended and it is your opponents turn'

Someone helps me. A dullhead.

Circeus says:'I am NOT continuing this duel'
Circeus says:'yup, it's then your OPPONENT'S TURN'
Circeus says:'thus HIS standby phase'
Circeus says:'Since when YOUR phases occur during the OPPONENT'S turn?'

And here I though this was the kind of basics people actually remembered from the rulebook... Or at least realised by themselves, but apparently that guy seems to suffer a genetic lag in common sense.

Zombie says:'i checked with upper deck '
Zombie says:'and know i'm right'

As said earlier, the most preposterous thing I heard since I've started playing the game.

Circeus says:'*eyes wide*'

Again, my physical reaction. At that point, he disconnected.

Have you ever met a duelist who not only horribly mangled rulings of the game (Aside, please, "show" rulings), but was seriously thinking he was right?

He was lucky I didn't use a Fire Princes deck. With my standby phase at the beginning of his turn, I'd have trounced him. One wonders if he'd have let me...

One time I was dueling someone at a tournement (it wasn't a tournement duel, though) and they summoned Last Warrior from Another Planet on his first turn. (At first I thought he was just lucky, but later I think I heard someone talk about a kid who kept getting the fusion requirements for a monster on the first turn. It was probably the same kid.) I set a monster face-down, but he kept telling me that I couldn't because his Last Warrior prevented it. I tried to explain to him that set monsters are not considered summoned, and that Last Warrior prevented monsters from being summoned, but he wouldn't listen. Another player came over and started telling me that I was wrong. (and this was someone who had won a couple tournements) Then the next round of the tournement started, so we just stopped arguing forgot about it.

OMG stupid duelists all around. ^.^

I had this one guy tell me that kuriboh reduced all mons attacks in that battle phase, such as a waboku would. He also said I had to choose to boost lily before he chose to chain.

Another person, at an irl tourny took like 20 min to understand IFL. He kept thinking he could disc riboh after I boosted. Same with waboku. It took 5 people and an official ruling to convince him, and I dont think he understands it yet either.

Then you get the children, theyre the worst. You reduce em to 2000 and then they say some **** like "you shouldnt have made me angry" then they raigeki, monster reborn something useless like gemini elf when they have like, don zaloog in the grave, then they summon something like, goblin strike team, and use early burial on another elf. And all this time they have like giant orc and demon soldier on the field. They say "you should have never made me mad because now your going to die" they attempt to attack directly, then you flip mirror force. The first assumption was that you did something illegal (idiots) and then they begin to realize that had they not exhausted theyre hand so quickly they could have still defeated you with what was already on the field + 1 monster. However the nincompoops were too late at realizing this and have to topdeck 1 turn until theyre gone.

Eh...I did something really stupid the other day. I don't remember exactly how it went; I just know that I attacked when I shouldn't have.

My friend had a Chaos Command Magician on the Field. I think what happened was that I powered up one of my monsters and attack, without checking the attack of Chaos Command first. I had thought I knew the attack; no such luck, I had forgotten.

I dueled a guy once who thought that Witch of the Black Forest's effect put the monster into play. He tried to use his Summoned Skull that way. No matter how many times I tried to tell him that WBF put the monster card into your hand, he didn't believe me. Not even after I read him the card's text. So we dueled his way, and I won.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but he damn well could!

While the vast majority of cards can't be activated during damage step, speed 2 and more cards that modify ATK, as well as counter traps and a handful of other cards (Gate Guardian pieces, anybody?) can be activated during damage step. It happens that Kuriboh is one of them is it a very legal move to discard it AFTER the opponent paid 2000 to raise the attack of his lilly.

Yeah I have this paticular problem with my girlfriend. For some reason she likes to make up the most ridiculous things just to insure victory. She even did it tonight with a japanese card Pharaoh's Shrine (Temple of the Kings). As for the Vampire Lord you're compleletly right it's during your standby phase though for some reason English players continue to abuse Vampire Lord and use him the wrong way it's just plain stupidity.

Well, I was at a local card shop tonight and someone tried to use the Elma+Woodland Sprite combo on me. If you don't know it, Elma only comes back when destroyed while equipped and Sprite sends equips to the grave for 500 damage. He proceeded to say Upperdeck told him and all of this so I got up and walked away.Total lunacy.
