Twilight Zone

Who here likes to watch Twilight Zone? I enjoy it a lot and it really makes you think. What is your favorite episode?

My favorite episode is [spoiler] where this guy likes to read and everyone around him despises it. He works at a bank and one day, for a lunch break, he goes down into the safe and closes the door and reads his book. A nuclear bomb hits and everyone else dies but him. He then finds this library and sorts out all the books he's going to read. Then his glasses break. [/spoiler]

Heh, I'm a pretty huge fan of The Twilight Zone.

Obviously, I wasn't alive during its original run on television but I catch the show every now and then on Sci-Fi and I jump for joy every time they decide to run a Twilight Zone marathon, hehe ^_^;

The Twilight Zone is really a fantastic show; very witty and fantastic, suspenseful stories packed into half-hour (and occasionally hour-long) shows. I've not seen them all yet, but I have seen most of the shows. Some of my favorites include "Eye of the Beholder," "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street," "Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up," "The Obsolete Man" and, of course, "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet."

The Twilight Zone is very much worth watching even today, because the show still manages to entertain, even with multiple viewings of each episode. And though the show sometimes stretches reality way more than normal (come on, do you really believe that the family in "Little Girl Lost" just happened to know a physicist?), you really pay no mind to it, because they're just that good.

Even if you don't like The Twilight Zone, the show is still fun to watch so that you can catch the myriad of references that The Simpsons make to the different shows, especially in the Treehouse of Horror episodes (several Treehouse of Horror episodes have been loosely based off of Twilight Zone episodes). It's really quite fun to see exactly how The Simpsons parodies these episodes.

One last thing...the episode in which you were talking about, Japan, is entitled "Time Enough at Last." I remember that episode quite well, heh. Even better is the short parody of it that took place in Futurama: [spoiler]The man sits down to read and, of course, his glasses break. He notes that he does not need his glasses to read and then his eyes fall out. He tries to find something in braile and his arms fall off. Finally, he just comes apart alltogether. The funniest part comes soon afterward when Bender says "Saw it coming."[/spoiler] I swear, I laugh everytime I see that :D

Yeah the old Twilight Zone show was pretty cool, and has influenced many other shows.

I have to say my favorite episode is the one with William Shatner on the airplane. "Terror at 12,000 feet" I think its called.
[spoiler]Its the one where that guy kept seein' the monster on the wing of the plane, and everybody thinks he's crazy.[/spoiler]

The movie rendition of that episode was good too, with John Litglow playin' Shatner's part.

In fact, I liked the Twilight Zone movie a little bit better than the series.
But thats just me.

Its certainly better than that new Twilight Zone show, that came of UPN.

I love the Twilight Zone; I sit and watch the marathons on SciFi and then I get all weird. The Outer Limits is good, too, but the episodes aren't as succinct and biting as the Twilight Zone.

The new one on UPN has totally lost the concept of the show. It's not about glam and graphics. It's psychological. Purely. I mean, Rod Serling was smart enough to realize that super-movie crap would only clutter up the storyline, and take away from the deep meanings and morals of each story. The new one is all about sex, too.

Books by Rod Serling are pretty good, too. He wrote all the stories himself, for which I highly respect him.

[color=green]I [i]love[/i] The Twilight Zone. I always have, although when I was younger, it scared me a bit. There have been a lot of great episodes mentioned in this thread, including two of my favorites, "Eye of the Beholder" and Japan_86's favorite with the guy adn his glasses...(can't remember the title, sorry) There are so many worth while episodes, really, and most having some sort of social commentary attached to them. It really is just a really intelligent and entertaining show.

A couple of my other favorite episodes are the [spoiler] one where the men are in the diner with the "fortune telling machine" at every table. They start to fall prey to it and believe everything it tells them. They finally snap out of it, but then, at the end that old couple walks in... That was great! The other...The one with the small town after a nuclear bomb had been dropped (I've noticed that there are a lot of nuclear references, but I guess it fit the time...) and their "leader" determined what food was/wasn't good to eat. Then the Army comes in...[/spoiler]
