Names and their origins

RainbowChick

Recommended Posts

I was looking at my otaku name, RainbowChick and thinking where did that come from. I mean it totally goes against my personality. I am just not the happy-happy kind of peson. So I thought about it and came to the conclusion that the rainbow part came cause my dad is on a trip to Rainbow Lake. The chick is there cause I couldn't think of anything else to go with rainbow. Anyway, I've seen some other pretty, let's say, interesting names and I was wondering how they came to be. If you have any experiances with strange, ironic or just plain crazy names let me know.:)

ps. they don't have to be from any paticular place

Hmm. . I remember old threads like this =) Not complaining really ^_^

My name is Noryko Angelcry. .

Noryko - When I attended my Freshman year of school, I was stuck playing some video games. . Now, I had a few names that worked, but many games don't allow for too many characters in the name. My last name was Lord Overon. . but in one game, I just didn't like the look of Overon. . so I was thinking about it, and decided (I don't know where from) but, Noryko. It just popped up in there. So, I stuck with it. (I realize in Japan there is a girls name - Noriko, but too late now ^_^)

Angelcry - came from a computer game called Everquest (most big gamers know of this one). At level 20, you are allowed a surname. I didn't know what mine would be. . so a friend hinted something along the lines of Angel. . I was a cleric, and love angels, so I went with it. I picked cry at the end, since I was alive in the game, so it was sort of an angel falling from heaven to help out the people of that world. If I was an angel, and I left heaven, I think I would probably cry. . Angelcry!

(In keeping with the name of Angel, my brother, who played a Cleric also, put his surname as Angeltouch. . so people who knew us could tell we were brothers). . just wanted to put that in, lol!

My name before I changed it was Arch, which I took from Archae, which is ancient in Latin. Another way I did it was to combine Arc, as in an arc of light, and Archae. I still decided that Arch worked pretty well, so I decided to use it.

Bio, it means life in latin. So yea, I like Latin.

I got this from an old nickname my husband called me when we first went out.

You see, I'm three inches shorter than him and for some reason he thought that was the perfect reason to begin calling me chibi which as we all know is the Japanese diminutive word for Short or tiny. Go figure.

As for the horsewoman part. Well, I ride horses and I'm a woman (female, girl chick, lady ect ect) therefore the horsewoman came into play. I got bored with my old screen name and thus became *drum roll please* Chibi Horsewoman and the rest as they say is history.

I've been considering getting the name changed to Hino Megami, but I'm not sure if Goddess of Fire is really my thing.

My name's origin...well basically my sig says it all.

My name Wasabi is the name of my cat that died, but Wasabi is actually a green, extremely spicy mustard that is used in Japan. But I think they are served in Chinese buffets too, not sure.
The reason I chose Wasabi was because of my cat, and the fact that I started to hate my old name Inuluvr1, which of course standed for #1 Inuyasha Lover.

Ha, my name...Yes, the ghost.

Well, I've always felt like a ghost, you know, an outsider. No one really knows me, no one knows I'm there~Therfore I am the ghost!

Actually, I started calling myself that when I got knocked over in the hallway (by football players, no less) 3 times in one day. They didn't even apologize, didn't even ACT like they ran into someone, they just kept going! Then, in Sunday school, (where I'm already treated like rancid fruit-don't ask) I tried to answer some of the questions the teacher was asking, and this teacher BLANTANTLY IGNORED ME! I thought that maybe he just didn't notice, so I said it louder. He glared at me, and continued on without even saying a thing! (Appearently he's taking cues from the jocks) So I decided that I am a ghost, I'm appearently not worth noticing or recognizing. This just happened to be the day I signed on to Otaku, and I guess I just couldn't think of anything else! So, the name stuck.

Katana...well...
Actually, it took me a while to decide on my OB username. I had many others, used in my group of anime-obsessed friends. I had narrowed them down to three choices: Nami (wave), Number 6 (my Otaku Agent number), and Katana (sword). I must've thought them out for about ten minutes or so, before finally deciding to put down Katana.
A sword. A blade. A Japanese sword-blade. My personality. I have a sharp attitude and mind. (In no way did this come from Lady Katana...seriously...) I dunno, but it caught on. For some reason, Katana seems a little, er, childish. I think it's the K. oO

hmmm Swordsaint, well this one you kind of have to know me in person to understand, or believe. I'm really interested in Medieval stuff, especially swords. So I practice with wooden ones that I make, and after a while, I actually started to get decent at the whole thing. And I'm in general a very accepting easy going person, I do my best to be kind to everyone I meet. One day one of my friends happened to call me swordsaint and oddly enough it stuck. I have no clue why but it does.

I don't exactly qualify to be a saint, I havn't performed three miracles. Though some of my friends think that the fact I'm still a virgin is a miracle, especially after hanging out with them for so long.

My first nickname, Tamer_Zach, was when I was in my Digimon stage, and was fanatic about Digimon.

Next came Logan, when I was in love with X2. I had to have a name from that movie.

And now, Leh. Ajeh and Zeh gave me this nickname... I've used it ever since.

Anatema is something I'd been hearing for a while in church. Our pastor was really adamant about yelling it out every other ten seconds, and without ever knowing what it meant it sort of stuck with me. I figured it was either something really good or something really bad. Eventually I looked it up in my mother's big book of biblical terminologies and it is a formal ecclesiastical ban, curse, or excommunication. It basically labels those as cursed or damned. In church I usually felt as if the whole congregation felt I was irrevocably lost and it stuck with me.

Years later I came to sign up here and was indecisive. After some thinking and looking through lists of words and names I liked I befell upon Anatema once again and that was that. Someone once told me that I had mispelled the word, but no, I haven't. I've only attended church and read the bible and other religious books in one language, Spanish and I formed my attachement to the spanish version of the word. I know it is spelled Anathema in English, I'm not an idiot -_-

Well, it's kind of silly really. Back when Anna and I were big nerds (wait, we still are...) in about tenth grade, we started watching Evangelion, the best anime series in the entire world. Well, she was Misato (because she looked like her VERY MUCH SO...it's weird...) and I was Asuka (because I look like her...not as very much so now that I don't have bangs...). Well one day we planned to take over the world and I was going to be Queen of the World and she was going to be Empress of the World. We used to always argue about which was better: Queen or Empress. We started calling each other Queen Asuka and Empress Misato in the letters we wrote back and forth to each other during school.

I used to practically live at her house, and I saw that she was a member of this strange "OtakuBoards." In my newbie stupor I decided to use my nickname "Queen Asuka." And yes, I have become the true Queen and idolized and all that jazz. And it's very fun. And I love being the Queen of Plushies. ^_^ And people seem to like me and call me "Highness," so I guess there's a big plus there, too. ^_^

Guest ScirosDarkblade
Ummmm I thought Sciros sounded like a cool name for a character. I originally used it as my character name in RPGs like Baldur's Gate II and such, and eventually created an original character with the name, for the purposes of making my own comic or something (which I never ended up doing). I also adopted it as my onscreen pseudonym at about the same time. The "Darkblade" at the end was just a title I added on for some reason, and it goes ok with "Sciros" so it stuck. I've used it for a long time now. Mostly at this point it's convenience. Also it's short, and people can actually say it (sci- as in science, just for the record).

Well actually my name came from an idea I got for a movie...

It's about a guy who Anonymously tips off the police... Thus being called the Anonymous Source(there's more to it then that, don't worry, it's not that crappy;))

And so I was on msn the day I came up with it and I made my msn name AnonymousSource just to make people ask... and then I'd brag about my movie (you know how that is!).

That was about the time I finally got the guts to join this site (yet, it still took me a good 3 months before I would post) and so I took my msn name, which I thought was quite cool, and used it for Otaku...

and they all lived happily ever after... or something

I used to really be in to skateboarding 4 years ago(Im 13 now)and so when I got my first hotmail account I named myself hawke900 because of the whole Tony Hawk getting the 900 spin. I then changed it to hawke3000 because all my friends had 3000 at the end of their hotmail names. There is no Hawke on this site as far as I know. I just like the 3000.And the e on the end of hawke.I like that too.

:D Sword Saint also happens to be a character in Storm Riders, a super cool chinese manga I found in my local library, (the artwork is AMAZING)

my name, Dragonstar is just cos I draw a whole load of Dragons and spend loadsa time Stargazing, so when I made my character Blue, her people worship Dragons, Stars, and Wolves (really, don't ask) so I named the galaxy they were in Dragonstar, then there was a legendary sword, Dragonstar it just kinda made sense, to me, although I usually call myself Blue Tajiri and I have been known as Silverstar before now. :D
