being a single guy who has the habbit of having women adopt me as a big brother and not as someone to love; I have had those spells of wondering what the point of going on. Believe me the holidays are the worst.
But I guess what keeps me going is friends I meet along the path of life, and hopefully will think of me sometime(weather it be in mocking or a pop-up)
And sometimes we do make a difference in our own little way(even if I have to see the outcome)

Besides if there is beer and whiskey, then there is help(somewhat, but the true answer ito dealing w/it ) to get thru those morbid, dark times.

Always here to help and offer my 2 bits

Bosn

Some of you scare me with your crafted lives and what not. Not everything is set in stone.

I don't think life should be taken as seriously as it is. People work too hard at being this successful or that successful by torturing themselves with rigorous BS. There are too many examples of years of so much work being completely fruitless. Take life day by day and do what you want with it. Don't be governed by examples you're not comfortable with and realize happiness doesn't come from schedules. It wouldn't surprise me if it did seem pointless from a perspective opposite that because it's just way too frustrating to begin with.

Just experiment with choices and make life as exciting as possible for you. Don't compare yourself, and you'll start to appreciate life much more as a whole. To be corny, life really is your canvas.

You know, I wonder if they'll laugh when I am dead
Why am I fighting to live, if I'm just living to fight
Why am I trying to see, when there aint nothing in sight
Why am I trying to give, when no one gives me a try
Why am I dying to live, if I'm just living to die

Copied the chorus lyrics from my mood song *points down to his sig*

We just live becuase we just do, but I'm begginning to think that we live for destruction and innovation. As a buddhist, if you were "reincarnated" you would never know about your past, since your brain doesn't recorded it. Everyone in the board may had more then 1 chance at life and never knew. So just live your life to it's full potential. Don't fear death. You might be back here ^_^.

*Sephiroth predicts that this thread will turn into a religious debate -_- *

Regarding the topic at hand, who know's what will happen after you die, maybe there's an after life, maybe reincarnation, maybe it's just simply the end, who knows really? Which is why it's best to live your life to the fullest with the time that is given to you, and worry about what happens after death when the time comes.

To rethink my theory on death...

Death is death. People are buried or cremated or what ever funky crap and forgotten unless they were important. There are, maybe, 5 people at the least to remember you when you die.

Though I do believe life is short and needs to be lived out to the fullest, most people won't let you do that cause, when you say fullest, you have no restrictions. But that's what this damned country is all about: Restrictions. I can speak publicly, put not in the manner I choose. I can go out to lunch but it needs to be within budget or I go broke. I can go and by weed, but I'd get arrested. All of those are part of restrictions. "I want to fly" is another restricted thing cause of two things, gravity and no wings. All life can ever be about to me is restrictions...

Restrictions are also a good thing, however. For example, by law (and hopefully, by conscience) most people are restricted from committing murder, among other things. And as far as death itself being a restriction, well, I tend to look at it this way: If there were no restrictions, where would the fun be? It's like playing a game where the only rule is that you win. Pointless. Now, a game where you've got a chance of losing.... well, that makes me want to play all the more. What about you? ^^x

Yes, but there are some games not even worth playing. I can understand if life was full of things like in M:TG. Spells, enchantments, creatures, magic at your fingertips, waiting to be used...but hat is it we have here? In this world? Not much. We have gadgets, yes, we can go online to play games and such too. Play Unreal and such. But that's merely an illusion. And though I'm being hipocritical about this cause I play them too, I hate illusions. It only makes me feel like I'm beinig tricked.

I think that life is kinda pointless because we live our lives being nice and kind or horrid and hateful. But we all have the same fate we will all die then all that's left of us is a box of belongings or a memory in someones mind, then they'll die and it's like we never existed.Every time I think of death I just imagine seeing nothing;hearing nothing and thinking nothing,It scares me every time I think about it and I usually end up geting really depressed.

I hope there is something more even if I have to live my life over and over

I think that we may live our lives over and over.I think that when we get deja vu it's really a memory of our past life.

Sometimes I wonder how everyone I know will react when I die. They probably won't even notice i'm gone.

I only read the first post in the thread, so bear with me.

Who says death is an inevitability? There's gonna be a way to get past it; there already is, in fact. They've figured out how to transplant a brain to a new body. They haven't figured out how to reconnect the spinal cord to give you senses, but it's still a way to cheat the grim reaper.
Humans are animals. Talking monkeys. What are monkeys alive for? To make more monkeys. Simple enough.

Icewolfeyes
Man, if I was a monkey, I'd be the baddest monkey in the jungel!

That said, I don't think there's a way to cheat death. I think your best option is to make the most out of the life you're given and deal with whatever comes your way.

Everybody has hardships to deal with so quit complaining. Everyone has more than likely gone through something worse than you.

I think once i had a point, but then it got lost in the confusion.

That said, I'll leave you with my scattered thoughts.

This is my opinion. You were given this life whether you like it or not. So, why not try enjoying it? Why mope around, feeling such a deep feeling of depression while you could change that. You live to live and to be a part of the functioning machine known as humanity. And the way you serve that machine depends souly on you. you can be a waist and mope around life, waiting to expire, or you can live life to enjoy it and help those around you. The choice is yours alone to think negatively or posititvely, and thinking negatively leads to a negative life, so I suggest the first option.

The point of life? To contribute to the soap opera that god created.

Just kidding. *hopes that didn't offend anyone*

Now to be serious...

There is no point to life. But it looks to me like the point is actually to experience. Experience as much as you can. When you die you'll feel satisfied, and you'll be able to rest...

This coming from a girl who's afraid of death X)

Who knows? Maybe the belief of reincarnation is real. Maybe you'll be able to experience again... or maybe you'll be a worm and get eaten by a bird. :P

People are telling me to repent for my sins, but screw them. I don't beleive in God, Hell, Fate, Hope, Hallelujah or any of that. I just beleive that death is when you're suddenly snuffed out like a flame. I think death is a type of..."Ultimate Salvation" if you will, not in pain, not in pleasure...happy or sad...it's an empty void of which all will go through...and never return...

Well life to me is just mirely a test to find out where we will spend the rest of eternity. I really never think about it because I just want to have a great life time, but it can be hard at times, but oh well.

To me, people exist for three reasons: to have fun, to learn, and to make the world better for everyone else.

Simple, yes, but still, it's what I think. I'd rather exist for a day than not exist at all. I mean, think about it: never laughing, never having friends, never doing anything or feeling anything because you simply aren't there.

And when you die, it doesn't matter to me if there's life after death or not, because people will remember you. You'll live in their memories. You would've had an impact on all these other people around you. It's like the chaos theory - a single butterfly beating it's wings in China can cause a hurricane in the US.

So, I'm sorry if the question of "Why are we here?" weighs on me every night. I'm just glad that I am here.

But after those people that remember you die, who else will? Sure, if you did something famous like become president and screw up the country, you really can't be forgoten cause you're down in history. But what about every other no-body out there that doesn't even have a license or such? What about the kid that died of a heartattack a few weeks ago because he laughed to hard? What about those people that treaten that they are going to jump of a building for so long then finaly do it? Those people are forgoten easily unless they did some thing. Honestly though, I could care less if I go down into history as president or such. I wish I was forgotten. Trust me, there's not much poinbt to being remembered.

I thought almost exactly what I thought. There is no point to life, I believed this and I, being an uncaring person, could accept that.
However, something happened that changed this slightly, and I came to believe that since there is no point then live your lifespan happily. "Strive for happiness, because it's the only reason your still here" is what I tell myself. Since then I have changed (not as much as I'd have liked, not yet). So, I say live out your life however you see fit and be happy.
I apologize for my inability to convey my thoughts

What I am about to say, mey qualify me as a nun, but, that's just the way I am!!! ;) :wigout: Sorry if I offend ANYONE!
To me, life is a test, a test to show you're faith to God, and your intentions, a test that will, in the end, give you the reward of a good grade, or a good afterlife in Heaven, or punishment, a bad grade, the worst sufferment of all in the depst of Helll; also, God gave us life, so we can live it to the fullest!!!And, to always try to do nice things, and try to be happy, whats the point of going to Heaven or Hell if you didn't enjoy life???
In conclution, life is a test, to find out the fate you have in another, eternal life, in this material life, you must be good, and happy, in order to have a good, eternal life!! :babble:
These are my thoughts, and, I hope I didn't offend ANYONE, it's not my ITNENTION! :( :( :( If I did, please tell me!!!

Instinctively? We're here to procreate. Mentally? We're here to learn. Basically? We're here to live.

Look we are here. Face it. Everyone dies, and you'll die. Face it... everyone else can. Do we live, only to die? No, we have a purpose in life, and death is the dessert. I'd say that you're around my age, which guarantees you about 60 more years on this planet. Providing, you don't get hit by a bus or slit your wrists or get gunned down in the street or get shot or get murdered or fall down a weak trapdoor and starve to death in a secret underground prison. Anything could happen. But probably won't.

As for the brain transplant... I doubt that'd work. I mean, your brain cells die. Unless they could find a way to rejuvenate your brain cells, you'd end up being a 200 year old vegetable.

Why are you so good that you want to cheat death, or something?

We're all going to die one day. We'll be missed by a few. But we're dead anyway. Face it.

Well it's a bit of a frightening thing to accept that we don't matter at all in the long run and once we die we're gone for good and that's all there is to it. Finality is really difficult to truly comprehend, and the worst thing about it is it seems so unfair. One feels cheated.

But really, the thing is we're in the same boat as every other living thing on the planet. Everything dies eventually, and when it does the only thing that one can say for sure is there will be something to replace it.

What death is, at least in my eyes, is the ultimate deadline. Everything has to get done by the time it comes around, or it won't get done at all. Right? What that "everything" is differs from person to person, and that's why some people really wish death would never come and others don't care as much. Me? I'd like to be able to learn all there is about the universe, honestly. I wouldn't mind being completely immortal, so that even when the universe became cold rocks in the emptiness of infinite space, I'd be there to contemplate everything there is. So I fear death and I dislike it and I wish it wasn't a part of life; and most certainly not a guarantee. And I can promise you, that never in my lifetime will I resolve myself to death. Ever. I will never be ready for it.

Well, then. That having been said, it's not really healthy to contemplate one's mortality too much. It's not a fruitful way to pass time, and at best can help you put your priorities in perspective (which doesn't have to be done too regularly I hope).

Really, though, I freaking hate death. The thing is, if you see life on Earth as all there is to existence (as I do), then it makes losing loved ones that much worse, because in the end they're all you have and a large part of what defines your life. Eh, I'm being depressing. I'll quit now.
