eleanor
I started watching Princess Nine on an accident, really. I was browsing my Anime Network, and I meant to choose an Angelic Layer episode, but accidently clicked the first episode for Princess Nine, and I decided to sit through it and see what it was like. I liked it, even I sort of got irritated whenthey kept on doing the same scenes for different parts. Anyways, the anime is about a girl, Yao [I believe that's the spelling of her name, but I'm note sure] who has a great deal of talent in baseball, and in the first episode, come to the rescue in a baseball game in which a team she helps out was losing badly. And then we find out the head of a rich high school for boys and girls that is rather difficult to go to, has been keeping an eye on her. Yao's father has passed away and her mother currently runs a restaurant by herself to support Yao. Yao, feeling bad for not being able to help out because of school, decided that after she graduated middle school, she would quit school and work at the restaurant. Well, the Head of the high school offers her a full scholarship to the school if Yao agreed to play on the school's very first girl's baseball team. Yao eventually agrees [after finding out that her father was a talented pitcher] and the series goes on. The animation isn't great and it took a while for me to get used to the art [I don't exactly like it], but I kept in mind that it was made a long time ago. The show has been called 'one of the greatest anime series that supports woman strength and leadership and for now, the anime has got me hooked. I guess there's also going to be a bunch of romance mixed in from what I can tell; the star male baseball player hits on Yao...a lot...and Yao's smart guy friend seems to have a cruch on her. Romance isn't really my genre, but the show is great.
Kanariya
Heh, same thing happened with me actually. I meant to press an Angelic Layer Episode, but instead I got Princess Nine. I do like it though; but it's not ones of my faves really. The animation isn't that great, but same, I got used to it. It really was made a while ago? When did it start? I watch Princess Nine when I'm bored, but I know there will be more characters by the images in the theme song, so I'm looking forward to that. Whole thing can't be surrounded by Yao or I'll be bored to death. It's an okay anime in my opinion.
eleanor
Seeing that there's going to be nine girl characters, I'd hope the anime would give some attention to the other players. Though giving nine characters in-depth attention would be too jumbly and...it would take a very long time. O_o.
Kanariya
Well, for now I guess I have to cover my ears when the manager's voice comes up. (She just comes in now) Her voice is sooooooo high-pitched I could go deaf. Hope she doesn't appear too much in the series really.
ChibiHorsewoman
I've been watching Princess9 on and off since February, Actually I finally started watching it again last Saturday before my cousin's wedding. I found this anime about the same way as pretty much everyone else in the thread too. Except that I was dog sitting my aunt's shepard mix and went on the anime on demand channel not even knowing that you had to pay to get the shows :stupid: . I thought the description sounded interesting enough, so I watched episodes 8 and 9 that weekend. My aunt is pretty cool, she didn't make me pay for the shows I ordered even though I offered. Ryo (aka Yo and I think Miyazowa) is now the team captain, the girl with the silver/blue hair is the manager and damn is her VA hyped up on helium! She reminds me of one of the VAs for the NA SailorMoon. I actually enjoyed the storyline and the little snippets of information on the characters during the eye catch. I even orded the full season DVD from Amazon, but the guy sent me a bum copy so I have to go return it and try to get another one. Dammit, I was really planning on watching it from beginging to end. Ah well, maybe now i can try and watch Key.
Dagger
I started watching P9 over Thanksgiving and just finished it today. I got the brick set for $15 during one of ADV's sales, so it wasn't exactly a huge investment on my part. If nothing else, seeing this show proved to me that I have a much higher tolerance for anime which start poorly and end brilliantly than anime which get off to a great start and then gradually start to blow chunks. Unfortunately, P9 proved to be one of the latter. I'm being a little unfair to the show, but that's in part because I thought the beginning was so awesome. The first fourteen episodes were very solid, despite a few minor quibbles. But then there came that horrid
scandal
arc, which was followed by
the love triangle
kicking into high gear. Those two things--especially the latter--killed the show for me. I just couldn't stand the fact that these amazing, strong, really cool girls
started acting like histrionic morons because of Takasugi. Takasugi! Newsflash: he's not all that.
I didn't particularly like any of the males in P9 (well, except the coach, who was cool). Although Seishirou was okay. He put up with a lot more crap than he should have. I felt as though the ending was a bit of a cop-out. Not so much the fact that
they lost, which I was okay with... it just bothered me that we never saw them so much as set foot in Koshien. Hell, if they'd shown a five-second flash-foward at the end, I'd have been much happier with it.
For me, the ideal post-credits bit would have been
a narrated montage showing the girls making it to the finals in their second year, and having it fade out dramatically as Ryo threw the first pitch of the game.
But whatever. It was a good deal, so I'm pleased. It's amazing how much I soured on the series after
that ridiculous drowning children
incident, though. ~Dagger~
