Japan
I though that since this is the first time I have ever been in this forum for the length of time I've been here, I should post a thread in honor of the occasion. Though I do not own a Nintendo 64 console, I played a few games before. There is one game that I absolutely love and never tire of. The game is none else, but the original Mario Kart game for the N64. I prefer to race with Wario than any other the other characters from Mario. Partly, because, he is the only guy I am good with. The tracks that I enjoy are mainly the Rainbow one, and Wario stadium. The Wario stadium track reminds me of some Moto X event. Anyways, what do you think of this game compared to Mario Kart Double Dash for the gamecube console? What are you're favorite tracks, and who do you prefer to race as? Shinmaru
Well, Mario Kart 64, while a good game, doesn't hold a candle to Double Dash!!, in my opinion. MK64 is a pretty easy game. I don't play racers too often and I was able to snag a gold trophy in each class with pretty much minimal effort. And that's even when taking into account the fact that the game "cheats" by giving artifical boosts to the CPU players to keep the race close. However, the track design is pretty good and there are a fair number of creative shortcuts in the game. Someone who really masters the tracks, especially Wario Stadium, can finish some of these with some really insane times. The best part of Mario Kart 64 is the battle mode. I've only had the opportunity of playing four-player Mario Kart battle mode once and I really, really enjoyed it; I feel it could be still enjoyed immensely even today. In this game, it doesn't really make a difference whom you choose in Grand Prix, since it doesn't take much effort to beat it, but in Time Trial I prefer to use either Toad or Yoshi. Both characters are lightweights and they have easy to control karts, which is vital for making quick, sharp turns (you'll find that this is even more vital in DD!! - I can't tell how much easier the game gets
once you unlock Toad and Toadette
). Mike330
ya, i own a n64. although it doesn't work anymore, the best game i have for it is definetly mario cart 64, with goldeneye coming in a close second. all the mario cart games to date have been good, and 64 is no exception. Semjaza
MK: DD was disappointing at first and somehow while playing it, it catapulted itself into becoming my favorite game in the series. I don't even know how that happened... but it's just so much more frantic than the others. More chaos = more fun. I still don't own Mario Kart 64, but someone let me borrow it years back. I finished everything in it and I did enjoy it. In retrospect, it's the worst in the series... but that's not a bad thing considering that it's pretty damn good in the first place. My main issue with it was just how long all the tracks were. I doubt I'd go back and play it though. N64 games have aged so badly. I kind of wish Nintendo put it on the bonus disc with MK: DD so it would look a bit nicer.
Purple Haze
I beat MK64 so many times because my file kept on getting erased. But it was really easy and I got all the golds in like a hour to a hour and a half. But Diddy Kong racing was so much more fun. I played that with my friends for hours. Mike330
now that u mention it, mk64 would be nice as a bonus feature to mkdd. too bad the game is already done and they won't do that. but a port to the gc with higher resolution and framerate would still be really cool and with a new feature or two it would be worth the $50 price tag that comes with all modern videogames. i really miss how the newest games used to cost $30. Desbreko
You'd actually pay $50 for a slightly modified version of MK64, even though you've already played it on the N64? ... If you actually would, you have way too much money to spend. Send some to me and I'll put it to better use. ;) Anyway, Mario Kart 64 was the first game that I got with my N64, so I played it and Diddy Kong Racing (which I got a little later) for a looooong time since I couldn't afford anything else for quite a while. Some of my best N64 memories resulted from MK64, in fact. Me, my brother, and one of his friends used to play battle mode together for hours and hours. Big Donut and Block Fort were the two most played arenas--I liked Big Donut, my brother liked Block Fort, and his friend liked both. The other two were also rotated between occasionally, though my brother had this annoying habit of getting way too many Stars on Skyscraper. >_> One player was also decently fun. I played through all the grand prix cups on all four modes, but multiplayer is what I got the most fun out of. I did also have a decent time on the time trial mode too, though. The staff ghosts in that one are hard. I agree with Semjaza, though; Mario Kart 64 really is the worst in the series, but it's still an overall good game. I'd say the best part of it is battle mode--the arenas in that game were awesome, and totally kick the crap out of the ones in Double Dash. Though I think that's about the only thing MK64 has over MKDD. But yeah...awesome game, just not up to par with the rest of the series.
Mike330
when i said i would pay 50 bucks for a port of mk64 onto gcn, i meant with some new features, like some new tracks, weapons, and modern graphics.
Desbreko
Still, I don't think it'd be worth $50. I mean, why not just get Double Dash? It's got new tracks, new features, modern graphics, all that. Sure, you don't get the tracks from MK64, but there weren't many in MK64 that, in my opinion, even come close to MKDD's tracks. The only ones that I miss, like I said before, are the battle mode arenas. All the tracks in MKDD are at least as good as the ones in MK64.
Mike330
actually, i own double dash and i do think its great, but for some reason i still wish 64 would make a comeback.
Ryan
This was one of the easiest games, but it was fun when it first came out. There really wasn't anything like it out at the same time as this game that I knew of so it was a new experience for me. I still have it and sometimes when im extremely bored I turn it on.
Mike330
ya, even on 150cc it was pretty easy to get in first and stay there, but i had so much fun doing it again and again that i just fell in love with the game.
Shinmaru
Originally posted by otaku_em I used to be obsessed with this game it is a great game! ^__^

Originally posted by Mike330 so i just need to post a message to Anime_Guy and i'm in? so how do i post to him directly?
Where shall I begin? lol First off, I'll have to ask for a bit more quality in your posts. I've been watching you in this thread in particular, Mike330, and I'm not liking what I'm seeing. You don't have to make gigantic posts (we have James for that :p), but a small paragraph wouldn't be too bad. Same for you, otaku_em. I'm sure you two can work this out quite nicely, heh. Secondly, your post was off-topic, Mike; questions of your nature are best left for PM rather than asking it in your post, let alone making it the entire basis of your post. That is all...have a nice day, everyone. *nods and leaves*
