WW2
A new anime premered this week on Toonami. Its called Cyborg 009 and tells the story of 9 cybernetic enhanced humans, each with their own specific abilities, fighting the organization that created them. Its pretty interesting, and sorta looks like Kinkaider. So, has anyone seen it yet?:therock:
pbfrontmanvdp
LoL its kinda like the old Mega Man cartoon, and it also resembles old school anime(only the plot i mean not the artistic character designs and backround). The first episode looked pretty good so ill give it another week and a half and give a better response since its too soon to judge yet.
WW2
I would like to know why some of the new anime takes after Osamu Tezuka's work. (He's the guy that made Astroboy, and created this certain style of character design) Is is just some kind of retro fad they tried to revive? Skyrose
I actually found it kind of amusing. And interesting. I think I'm going to keep watching it... the only thing that irks me is that one... guy's... nose... grrr. It's bigger than his face, it bugs me so much. But I'm weird like that ^-^;;
Zephyr
Yeah!!! Go old school anime! The older stuff they show on Adult Swim and Toonami is awesome. I like the way they had 001 messing with 009's mind after he broke out. Leading him into the enemy was truely evil.
kiddy_phenil
missed the show, but i do like the style, just something about vivid colors..ah.. tezuka was the god of manga after all i suppose..how did he die anyway?
OtakuSennen
Wait.. So when did Cyborg 009 come out in Japan? It looks all retro, like Tezuka's other stuff, but the coloring looks more recent..
Arkadyz
Cyborg was probably done in 2000 or later...I personally am All for a retro revival...I love tezukas style...Cyborg is pretty good looking but im gonna have to wait abit to judge it  He isnt called the disney of anime for nothing ya know :D
Youko Minamino
Cyborg 009 was created in the 1960s. The new version you're watching on Toonami, which has some changes such as making 008 an adult, instead of an 8 year old African, is changed. Cyborg 009 and Kikaider are both written by the same manga-ka. The version's you're watching on CN are remakes, not the originals, both done within the last 5 years. There animation looks that way because its a salute to Tetsuon Atom(Rocket Boy), and the Original Cyborg 009, and Kikaider.
GreatDeitylink
Wow I didn't know that. Well I like it a lot because I'm a big fan of anime like Mega man and Astro boy. I think it's very creative the way they have those little ships that can use their wings as weapons. I also think that they go into the plot in the later episodes. (well after a couple of them) Also the cyborgs are not perfect like you would think they would be. I saw one were the pilot guy of a plane (he was a cyborg) had to fly a plane in between a canyon and the entrance was very small so he had to fly sideways, (with his wings sticking up and down) but when he was in it he crashed one of the wings. Then the plane got messed up and they went into the water and the other wing broke off. So I think that even though you would think they are perfect their just everyday normal people but with a lot of technology in them. Maybe it's me but that's just the way I look at it. Ah I had a typo!
Minako
Has anyone seen this new anime called "Cyborg 009"? I just saw a few episodes on Cartoon Network because they're having a marathon of it, and I like it. I may not know much about plot lines or art design, and I haven't watched much anime...I still would like to know if anyone else has seen it and why you liked it, or did not like it. Inquiring minds want to know! :D ~Minako
Dan Rugh
I saw all of what they have on Cartoon Network a while ago when it was on Toonami. The show is pretty interesting, but I don't really consider it one of my favorites. It gets a little better when each of the characters has their own episodes where they go home to where they lived before they were captured. You get to find out about their back-stories and are able to connect with them more. The one with the silver hair (it's either #002 or #003... can't remember) has a pretty good story. ... I wish I had rocket feet... :whoops:
shahi
I saw it its alright I was to sleepy to watch the marathon last night though. Its okay not my favorite but it passes time and one of the characters was from Bronx NY Now thats a big plus for me. ( Thats my home. . . well I can't say town so I'll say city) I was a little upset that they replaced my show with that when it first came on at 6:30. But, I watched it and it was okay and my other shows back on so I have nothing agianst it any more.
Dagger
I've watched quite a bit of Cyborg 009, although this was mainly because Yu Yu Hakusho used to air directly after it. While the series has its moments, I don't particularly like it. Artistically, it's somewhat similar to Android Kikaider (a vastly superior series). I have to admit that I detest the retro-looking character designs; they work well enough in Kikaider, but made it difficult for me to take Cyborg 009 seriously. Some of the show's underlying concepts are pretty nifty; for example, it's interesting to watch 009 use his special abilities. However, I had a hard time telling all of the characters apart--although they look pretty distinctive, it didn't feel right to associate a face with a three-digit number (as opposed to an actual name). Am I the only person who was incredibly annoyed by 009's eye-covering hairstyle? ~Dagger~
Kanariya
Heh, I was watching the marathon last night too. I only watched it because I was bored. I beat all of my video games and didn't feel like playing them. Cyborg 009 is an okay anime; but I usually get so confused at who each person is. I only know that 003 is the blonde girl, 008 is the black guy, and 001 is the baby. (Also 009) Then for the rest, I am confused. Though Cyborg 009 does make me feel at times of Kikaider; the animation style is similar. Jyro reminds me of 009 is many ways; the hairstyle, their eyes...it's weird. Especially the fact that Kikaider's design really irritated me. Cyborg 009 isn't exactly like it, but somehow, I can watch it and not be irritated.
Am I the only person who was incredibly annoyed by 009's eye-covering hairstyle?
Half and Half really for me. 009's eye-covering hair does irritate me for the fact you can't see half of his face, but at the same time doesn't because the eye-covering hairstyle is suitable for him. I wouldn't see him with a pulled back hairstyle.
pbfrontmanvdp
Really wasn't a good anime compared to Kikaider (only other android type anime ive really seen). It had only one episode that caught my interest a little bit and that was the one which showed both the positive and negative 0010's dueling 009. Besides that the only other thing that was pretty neat about it was the ending theme showing the old school manga drawings. Overall the anime was pretty boring. Japan
I've seen quite a few episodes of Cyborg 009. Though I enjoyed it a lot. I feel that there are better ones out there. I loved the plot. The only thing I didn't like were the character designs. One of the cyborgs has a nose that dominates his whole face. heh
oshi
I've seen bits and pieces of both 009 and Kikaider--I just couldn't make myself watch the whole show. I don't like how they're drawn. I could just never get into the plot because I was always staring at how their mouths are pasted onto the sides of their faces. I like more visual detail, I guess. oshi
Endymion
Not to sound distastful of the series, though I found the plot seemingly alright, I wasn't a fan too much of the character designs. Telling the characters apart even is hard to do if you don't breathe the series in 24/7. 009's similarities make me think of Jyro from Kikaider, and its 'retro' designs. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad series, it just doesn't have that....'flare'
SangoHuntress
Bleh! This anime looked like crap. The drawings looked like they were from out of the 60s. Anyone who thinks an anime like this has better artwork than Inuyasha needs to get their eyes checked.
OtakuSennen
I have seen bits and pieces of Cyborg 009, as is the case with most anime Toonami runs these days, just to see if it's worth watching. From what I saw, I wasn't totally thrilled. I never have been fond of the "retro anime" look, but it can't be helped with this series. After all, the manga was originally published way back in the sixties, and most anime looked like Osamu Tezuka's work back then. The anime that is airing on Toonami is a twenty-first century remake of the outdated Cyborg 009 animation that was popular in Japan back in the 70's. I can see why this series was so popular back in the olden days- The setup is pretty original, even to today's standards in some ways. Some of the battle sequences are pretty sweet as well. Still, though, I really don't watch this show anymore. It's just not my kind of show, and the dubbing is bothersome. The manga may be worth checking out, though.
duorocks17
I used to watch this series back when it was on Toonami also, and have to agree it is like Kikaider. But i thought that Kikaider had more depth to it. Don't get me wrong, I thought 009 was an ok series....well, i'll just fess up, i only watched it cuz Joshua Seth does 009's voice...but some of the plot was good. I liked the end, where they had the Greek gods, and the cyborgs had to face them. I mean, it made me get an interest into the gods, cuz i never really heard of them before. And, you really could tell who was who without knowing at least a little bit. Like the fact that Artemis and the dude with the red hair where twins? Never would have know... Let me give you the low down if you don't. 001- Ivan Whiskey: baby 002- Jet Link: Guy with serious red hair and large nose 003- Franscois Arnoul: the only woman that has super hearing and sight 004- Albert Heinrich: guy with silver-blue eyes, machine-gun hand, and missle launching knees 005- Geronimo Jr.: big guy with indestructable body and unlimited strength 006- Chang Changko: Chinese chef that breathes fire 007(my favorite^_^)- Great Britain( yeah, that's his name): bald shapeshifter 008- Pyunma: African who can breath under water 009- Joe Shimamoura: if you don't know who he is,you obviously don't watch the show. He's the one with acceleration mode. (Personally,I hate him.) All in all, though, I love the show. I just wish we could see the end of it, but since the creator died, we'll never know what that shadow looming over Tokyo really was. T_T
Omar Harris
This series was created in the 1960's, s previously mentioned, by the creator of not only Kikaider, but also a very popular and long-running live action series known as Kamen Rider. Some of you may remember Kamen Rider from the series Kamen Rider Black, which was "Americanized" into the crappy "Power Rangers" spin-off "Masked Rider". The creator of "Cyborg 009" is responsible for pretty much laying down the ground work for Sentai (task force), the series of live action Japanese superhero shows the Power Rangers, Masked Rider, Big Bad Beetleborgs, Beetleborgs Metallix, Ultraman, and Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad were all derived from. (of those, only Ultraman is an authentic Japanese show, while all the others are "Americanizations" of existing shows). Anyways, 009 is a huge breath of fresh air from the moody and somewhat arthouse-like animes of today. In addition to a racially diverse cast (I'm glad the series got rid of 008's Minstrel-like appearance), whose members have individual personalities that are very well defined, and retaining the original manga's Disney-inspired artwork all make for a unique experience, and thus a great show, and personal favorite of mine.
