Angel has been cancelled. Yes, cancelled. Canned. Put to sleep. Thrown into the realm of syndication and reruns. This will be the show's final season. On the bright side, WB will air the rest of the episodes. Whether or not they'll keep them in the same timeslot is beyond me...
Some of you may have heard the hilarious news. I thought this would be a good time to weigh in. to answer some obvious questions: No, we had no idea this was coming. Yes, we will finish out the season. No, I don't think the WB is doing the right thing. Yes, I'm grateful they did it early enough for my people to find other jobs.

Yes, my heart is breaking.

When Buffy ended, I was tapped out and ready to send it off. When Firefly got the axe, I went into a state of denial so huge it may very well cause a movie. But Angel... we really were starting to feel like we were on top, hitting our stride -- and then we strode right into the Pit of Snakes 'n' Lava. I'm so into these characters, these actors, the situations we're building... you wanna know how I feel? Watch the first act of "The Body."

As far as TV movies or whatever, I'm not thinking that far ahead. I actually hope my actors and writers are all too busy. We always planned this season finale to be a great capper to the season and the show in general. (And a great platform for a new season, of course.) We'll proceed ahead as planned.

I've never made mainstream TV very well. I like surprises, and TV isn't about surprises, unless the surprise is who gets voted off of something. I've been lucky to sneak this strange, strange show over the airwaves for as long as I have. I don't FEEL lucky, but I understand that I am.

Thanks all for your support, your community, and your perfectly sane devotion. It's meant a lot. I regret nothing (except the string of grisley murders in the 80's -- what was THAT all about?) Remember the words of the poet:

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the road less traveled by and they CANCELLED MY FRIKKIN' SHOW. I totally shoulda took the road that had all those people on it. Damn."

See you soon.
I guess my friend was right. He told me this a few days ago and I said I didn't really believe it considering the new season just started. It's kind of sad since it seemed like one of the station's bigger shows.

Perhaps another network would be interested in it...?

In any case, I'm annoyed because I just started getting into this show like a week ago... My timing is terrible lol.

Yeah, I read this not that long ago, just didn't feel like digging up the thread...

Weird thing is, Kristin from E! Online said not that long ago that Angel had been renewed for a 6th season. Hmph.

A proposal was being prepared to pitch the show to UPN (who picked up Angel's mother show, "Buffy The Vampire Slayer", after its own 5th season concluded), but no word yet on how that looks. However, the initial word says that it doesn't look good for keeping the show on air. Natch, fans aren't too happy, seeing as how this is being regarded as the best season ever, what with the new format, new stand-alone stories, and addition of Spike (James Marsters) to the cast.

Whedon also said the finale will not be changed, but it willl wrap things up nicely. The events leading up to the series end include (huge spoilers)
the return of Connor, the death of Knox, and the "rescue"/return of Lindsay MacDonald!
I"m keeping my ear to the ground for info regarding the future of the characters, which Whedon said may include some WB! speicals next year. PM or IM me if you want to know the latest news I have.

Sure thing.

Angel 5.14 : "A Hole In The World"
The ep begins with a flashback of Fred telling her parents that she'll be safe in LA. She'll study, she'll learn everything, and she'll be "normal".

Yeah...right.

The scene cuts to Fred using a flamethrower to eradicate a bugs nest. It seems she's going to be attack by one when it blows up, a result of Wesley's shotgun blast. The two finish up and share a kiss as Angel and Spike walk in, Angel impaled by Spike's sword. The two continue their heated argument as they exit.

Back in Wolfram & Hart's science lab, Knox is surprised by a strange delivery man, who brings in a sarcophogus. The order quite plainly says "Fred Burkle" so...its left there.

While Knox and Fred investigate it, she triggers something and some sort of wind blows into her face. She has a check out at the doctors, they say she's fine. But, while talking to Wesley and Lorne, she casually finishes up singing Lorne's verse of "You Are My Sunshine", only to cough blood on Wesley.

It seems Fred is being possessed. Her organs are boiling and, in one day's time, they'll liquify. But thats not all. Her skin is hardening, and whats running through her appears to be some sort of parasitic infectcion. The group runs off to do research, leading to the return of "Dark Wesley", shooting a staffer in the leg when he comments that not everyone can be working on Fred's case.

Thinking Lindsay has something to do with this, Angel, Spike, and Lorne search his apartment. There they find a pretty badly messed up Eve, who tells them they need to research "The Deeper Well".

The Well is located in England, and is the keeping place of the Old One's, the demons who arrived before man. Spike and Angel, putting aside their differences, rush to find the Well and hopefully save Fred.

Meanwhile, Fred has gotten out of the bed and is trying to work in the lab. At her request, Wesley takes her to her home, where she was in the eps flashback. This is were they spend the remained of the episode, with Fred slowly losing her own memories and rapidly deteriorating.

Angel and Spike arrive in England and find the well, being faced with a series of guards. The two take care of them and face the Wellkeeper, a man named Drogyn (I think). It turns out Angel knows him from several years earlier. Recognizing him, the man takes Angel and Spike into the well.

Back at Wolfram & Hart, Gunn and Knox are working on a way to save Fred when Knox slips up. Turns out, Knox brought Illyria's sarcophogus here...and Gunn's deal for a new brain boost (in the previous episode) led to Gunn himself getting it through customs!

Back at the Well, we learn it runs all the way through to the other side of the Earth (Spike's quips later on in the ep "There's a hole in the world.", hence the episodes title), Drogyn revealss that in order to save Fred, he needs a champion who has traveled from where it is to the Well. Angel comments he has two.

But there's a catch. In order to do so, Illyria will pass through the souls of everyone in its way...and its a long way from LA to England. Tens of thousands of innocent people will die in the process. Angel actually thinks for a moment before making his decision..."To Hell with the world."

Back at her house, Fred appears to be slipping into insanity. In the well, Spike is just looking down as Angel walks towards him. Spike chuckles and tells Angel that there is probably some poor bloke on the other side of the world, on a platform like this one, looking down at them.

At Fred's house, she begins to shudder and asks Wesley to kiss her. He complies. She then asks if he would have loved her. He holds her and tells her "I have loved you since we first met. No...I've loved you since before then." Fred dies in Wesley's arms, who begins to cry, but her eyes appear to freeze over. Fred's body convulses and the two are thrown apart. What stands in Fred's place hardly stands to be called Fred. Illyria, with dark blue hair and veins popping about (in fact, looking quite like Evil Willow) looks at her new body and hisses out "This will do."
As for Gunn and Fred
Fred found the scientist who sent her to Pylea. Gunn killed him because he didn't want Fred to have to deal with the guilt, but it wound up driving the two apart.
Hope that helps.

Illyria. At the end of this weeks episode we were left, or at least I was, with a lot of questions. First of all, what is going to happen to Illyria? Will she fight with them in this big evil that's coming? Or waiting to get at them? And what did Gunn sign in the hospital? I, for one, am very surprised at alot of things, Wesly included. Why did he help Illyria, simply because she looks like Fred? Or becuase he thinks it might have her come back? Alright, I don't know about you all, but I was a little confused. Can anyone give me some answers? Thanks in advance.
