Pagan
What are your thought about the illegal mod chip? If you don't know what this is I'm going to explain it. The mod chip is a game hack that can allow you to do anything. With it you can make a backup of virtually everything from a game to a cd. You can then access the backup anytime you would like without even having to buy the game or cd in. I have one installed in my GameCube, XBox, PS2, and PSX. Its kind of a bad thing, because I no longer eevn buy games all I do is go to blockbuster and rent a few games for 5 dollar and then go home and copy them to my gaming system after that I have them forever. It is very illegal and cheats every major gaming company out of their money. XBox has taken steps to make sure it doesn't work on there system but the creators of the chip stay a couple of steps ahead and just make it compatable for the changes in the system. Brasil
1. Illegal. 2. Warranty Void. 3. Illegal. 4. Dangerous to your system. 5. Illegal. 6. Did I mention it's illegal? You do realize that if any of your systems malfunction...you're screwed out of official company repairs? Frankly, Mod Chipping (not OB ModChipping ^_^) is one of the dumbest things I can think of. I mean, who in their right mind would voluntarily destroy or potentially destroy their expensive gaming console, simply to be able to copy games? Apart from that whole Copyright thing, it's just idiotic. You've already bought the systems, which would have set you back about 200 dollars on average, per system...so, what's another 40 dollars going to hurt? Also, considering just how long places like Hollywood Video and Blockbuster let you keep games for, there's no reason at all to pirate games. Plus, if you really love a game, there's a thing called Used Games at GameStop. I'm not getting drawn into this, but Hells Fire, you made a bad move. Semjaza
Well, modchips in and of themselves are not illegal. I have a few systems modded to play imports. However, obviously copying games you don't own is another story. I think it's pretty sad that people try to justify what's basically stealing.
Yeah, the modchips aren't illegal (I have my PlayStation chipped so that I could play some imports) but it's not a good idea to have it done unless you can get a professional to do it or you have enough knowledge of such things to do so yourself. Personally, I went for the former :p But just renting games from Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, etc. and just copying them is basically stealing - as Tony said, I don't really know how you can justify that. Also, as PoisonTongue mentioned, you can get games for fairly cheap by buying them used. They're usually in good condition, anyway, so that shouldn't really be an issue. OtakuSennen
There have been many cases in which I've wanted a game desperately-- As in I'd buy it over any other game at the time-- Yet it wasn't being released for the US. The fact that foreign CD-based games can't play on local consoles has always been a bit of a problem with me. There is a place on the other side of my town that installs mod chips to consoles, and apparently they give you a rebate on your console if the unthinkable happens to the lost patient (also known as my friend's unfortunate PlayStation 1), but I'd rather not risk it. I know I could get a replacement GameCube if my current one gets destroyed at the hands of others, but I don't think I could bear to part with the poor thing. We've been through a lot together. But think of all the Evangelion games I could play! So, if you ask me, yes to using mods for imports, no to using mods to copy games.
Epitome
Even though it is illegal, my brother recently purchased GC and had one of his friends hook him up with a mod chip and I personally think that it is great. We have burned some games and put them on mini cds and played them on the GC. And the other thing I like about ours is that it has Sega games and old Nintendo games already programmed into it. So yea, right now I like it, I just hope we dont get caught with it.
