This guy is the male version of Jewel, lol. Has anyone else totally fallen in love with his voice? I know I have. It's so unique, and has it's own distinct sound.

I first heard him, while I was in the car, and it was The Remedy. I knew I wouldn't be disappointed when I later heard You and I Both. His lyrics are great, and very different from other artists of his genre.

What are your thoughts on this artist?

I'm going to leave you with You and I Both lyrics, for this song is his best.

Was it you who spoke the words that things would happen but not to me
Oh things are gonna happen naturally
And taking your advice I'm looking on the bright side
And balancing the whole thing
But often times those words get tangled up in lines
And the bright lights turn to night
Until the dawn it brings
A little bird who'll sing about the magic that was you and me

Cause you and I both loved
What you and I spoke of
What you and I spoke of
Others only dream of the love that I love

See I'm all about them words
Over numbers, unencumbered numbered words
Hundreds of pages, pages, pages forwards
More words then I had ever heard and I feel so alive
Now you and I, you and I
Not so little you and I anymore
And with this silence brings a moral story
More importantly evolving is the glory of a boy

You and I both loved what you and I spoke of
And others just read of and if you could see now
Well I'm already finally out of

And it's okay if you have go away
Just remember the telephone works both ways
And if I never ever hear it ring
If nothing else I'll think the bells inside
Have finally found you someone else and that's okay
cause I'll remember everything you sang

you and I both loved what you and I spoke of
and others just read of and if you could see now
well I'm already finally out of words.

Yay, someone else besides me knows Jason Mraz!

I've only heard You and I Both, but I really enjoy listening to it. I think he has a great voice; it's very relaxing for me to hear for some reason.

And I really love that part for some odd reason. I have a tiny problem with it, though, because there's this part in the second half where Jason goes into his own little melody, and I didn't enjoy that part. *shrugs* Still a great singer, though.

Here's an opinion from a guy's point of view.

I've known about Jason Mraz I believe in early 2003, nearly a year ago. I worked at Target and on the Target Video Network (the thing that plays on all the TVs when you're shopping) they showed him doing an acoustic version of You and I way back when he first released his album. We all thought of him as kind of a loser, what with all his crazy hat styles and that red hat he always wore sideways, I mean, what a weirdo. Later in the year, his single Remedy was released and made into a video which was also played on the TVN for all to see.

Basically, at first we all wrote him off as one of those "wannabe" singers trying to woo a few chicks here and there. But then I really started to listen to what he was singing and his stuff started to grow on me. And you know what? That man is a true musician in every sense of the word.

He can write good lyrics and put a nice rhythm with it. He can play the guitar (not an easy instrument, especially the acoustic guitar) and he can also sing. Quite well in fact. He's got all the tools he needs to become huge, and now that he has two singles out, his fanbase is starting to really pick up.

Most people that I've seen here are all like "Wo0t, Deth Medal is TehH RoxxxorRring..!!1!>2@2311@e3four Theyysh r soo HARDCROE, tehy reeeeluy sppeke 2 meE!!2@!2123##$$11!" I've seen that these people have a tunnel vision that only see Hard Metal and stuff like that as real music. Most of these people will write off good ole' Jason Mraz as a pansy little prissy boy who can't play music but I find that untrue. Being a musician myself (have been since the 5th grade) I know how tough it is to be truly good. And Jason Mraz, in my opinion, is a really good artist. Worthy of more than just a skindeep label.

Go ahead "hardcore" music fans, call me gay and what not for liking a guy who can actually perform. In all reality, I like all kinds of music and I enjoy nearly every single genre there is in existence. I think to appreciate music you've got to look everywhere and not just stay single-mindedly at one type of music.

Jason Mraz, to me, is a 4 star musician out of a possible 5 stars. Give him time, he's got the talent to become great.

Also, anyone like Maroon 5? Those guys got some talent as well.

I can't think of a thread here where any random "hardcore" music fan posted just to tell someone they they were "gay" for liking some male perfomer. It couldn't be that they're just not into this genre of music... they must be closed minded and apparently too stupid to type properly. Like what you want, but the idea that people simply won't like a vocalist/band because of a reason like that is just as closed off, in my opinion.

I personally have no interest in the type of music Mraz plays, simple as that. I couldn't care less about his image or what people would think of me if I listened to him. Then again, I don't really go for this hardcore metal stuff you're referring to either lol.

Indeed, I understand. It's just that when I've mentioned to people outside this board about how Jason Mraz is a good musician, I've been given strange looks and such.

It just seems that there are those kind of people hanging around here and I'm just covering my bases as well as trying to get some people to look beyond one type of music.

Of course, I may just be over reacting to all things and just timid in that respect. But hey, I guess everyone has an opinion to voice and I'm here to respect that, right? Right.

Heh. I understand all that. The funny thing is that we were both exposed to this guy in the same way. I worked in Target and was often stuck watching TVN constantly. Mraz was a nice break between some of the more terrible acts on the station. I'll never forget stuff like Lil' Bow Wow, Isle of Q and who knows what else I had to suffer through for hours at a time. At least they played Queens of the Stone Age when they had new stuff out.

Anyway, back to Mraz. He's definitely good at what he does, from all I've been able to hear so far. I respect his talent, but it's not enough to get my hard earned cash just yet heh.

(Edit - All of my exposure to him is mostly through my friend who plays this sort of music when he gives me a ride in his car).

(Edit for Kyle - I don't want to pull Leh's thread offtrack, so I'll just put it here -- I worked salesfloor, electronics from time to time. I moved over to softlines because it was simply not as much of a hassle to work in... I quit a bit later heh).

Yeah, I'd say he's more of that "casual" listener kind of musician. You can turn him on and just listen to him in the background and enjoy yourself.

That may not be his goal, but it seems to be what is happening at the time. He's got music that isn't out there completely and makes you have to listen to it hard and upfront, but his music isn't something you just turn off either. Kind of strange, but he's still got the talent to be big.

And what did you do at Target, by the way? I was mostly Sale's Floor but got moved to Electronics for my last tenure of work there before I quit.

I was raised listening to hip-hop. I'm not entirely sure why I like this kind of music, but...

Jason Mraz is so fun to listen to. The first time I heard "Remedy," I was instantly addicted. It's so catchy, and I can't help but sing along everytime I hear it.

"You And I Both" is just as fun. The sheer goodness of the song is matched only by its equally goofy video. He walks into a bank, hands a note to a teller he has special feelings for, and she misinterprets it is a robbery note. Funny stuff.

He does have quite a bit of talent going. The guitar, singing, good lyrics. Even if it's not a style of music you listen to, you gotta give Mraz credit for doing what he does right. His songs are somewhat serious, but have a more lighthearted quality to them. Good stuff.

Love Maroon 5, too. They never leave my car's CD player.

Hah it seems we all got exposed to jason at work around here...

I too first heard him at work (Barnes & Noble) Although unlike you all I was exposed to his entire album 2x a day 5 days a week and I never got tired of it.

Some of his songs I perfer out of others but he has a good quality among all of thems. His rhymes just seem to roll right off the tounge and sound real smooth.

Oh and Maroon5 is a great band as well...Its nice to see they released another single I hope there already getting to work on there next album
