Phantom Planet

I got their album, "Phantom Planet/The Guest", as a gift and I love it! :D I'm sure most people here will recognize them as the group who plays the song, "California" for the show, the "O.C." (A friend of mine pointed this out to me. I've never seen the show.) I like them because when they're not playing songs like "Big Brat", they can turn it down and play "Anthem", etc. So have any of you heard of them? and if you have, what did you think of them? Did you like them? Hate them? And how would you classify them? (I'm not very good with genres.) Give me your thoughts.

I just consider them "rock" lol. I've not bought their latest release, but I own one from the past. For some reason the name of it escapes me, but it was definitely good. I'm glad they're getting some exposure.

Arcadia loves them. I know that much.

I ran into them coming out of this bad vegan restaurant once when they played in Eugene, but since I don't know them at all I didn't talk to them or anything. Other than that I've heard California, and seen their drummer in Rushmore with the delightful Bill Murray.

Yes, yes I do. I actually got that same deal - both the CDs, with the signed booklet, heh.

But yes, they're a fantastic band. One of my favorite rock bands, definitely. I'm more familiar with The Guest than with Phantom Planet, but it's been very pleasing to listen to so far. It's got a few really great songs on it, including Big Brat, as already mentioned. But I also like By The Bed - it kind of gets back to Anthem and Lonely Day; slower, softer, great lyrics. California has always been one of my favorite songs, so it kind of pisses me off that everybody likes that song now, but meh. They're definitely a band worth listening to, though, and I'm really hoping that one of these days they'll schedule some tours dates for the east coast. I'd love to see them in concert.

That drummer, by the way, actually quit to pursue his acting career. :p They've got a new one, and if I had a better memory, I would use their names, but alas, tis not to be. The new guy is pretty good though.

Ah, you got it with a signed booklet! I'm so jealous! :p Anyways, By the Bed is one of my favorite songs, right after After Hours. I love that song. So their drummer left? What CDs does he play on? Either of the ones I have? If so, he is really good. And does anyone know what kind of sub-genre these guys would fall into? Because I wanted to pick up some similiar bands, and my friends say that Saves the Day, and Armor For Sleep is a lot like them. Is this true?
