RainbowChick
I found the most disgusting thing ever!!!! I'm not vegatrian or anything and I'm okay with eating animals to a certain degree but this is wrong. A phycho from school showed me site... www.petsorfood.com . It looks perfectly normal but then you click on 'recipes' and guess what you find? Recipes for cooking animals that most humane people keep for pets. Like there's recipes for cooking DOGS, CATS and even some exotic animal. When I first saw it, I almost threw up. That was wrong and really sick and I felt like crying:bawl: . Does anyone think people would actually eat those things? I hope not...
DeathBug
Well, you've got to realize that the opinion of which animals are and arent' considered edible is a cultural divide. Most western lines of thought place a certain group of animals (cats, dogs, etc,), apart from pigs and bovine. Originally, pets were kept as emergancy food rations (ever seen "Excel Saga"?). However, as time went on, the need to eat these critters dwindled, and the emotional attachments formed to them increased dramatically, to the piint where some critics say we take better care of our cats than our kids. I totally understand where you're coming from, though. If it really bothers you, my advice is to simply not think about it.
SasukeUchiha
THis is kind of disgusting...You can buy them live though and have a new fun pet! Lol, I dont think alot of this sells well, but people do eat it. I have heard of some asian cultures that eat dogs and cats and some african cultures that indulge in many types of snakes and primates. Guess food is very open to debate. edit As i looked through this site I belive this is probably just a joke. I do not think they could sell bald eagle meat lol. They also say they have dodo bird meat....I think its a hoax. shahi
lets be realistic.Cultural eating habits arn't the same all over the world. Some poeple eat things we wouldn't even have thought of. All though I am destrubed by this site I think some of the animals they were talking about eating were indangered. (eagles, seals its just wrong)
James
RainbowChick, there are millions of people in south east asia who eat all kinds of meat -- including from dogs, cats and rodents. But it's just as normal in that region as eating chicken or beef in the United States. Dog, cat, cow, rat...what's the difference? :-P
DeathBug
Actually, (and I'm working from general memory here), I read once in Biology that, in general, it's a bad idea for humans to eat carnivorous animals, such as cats and other felines. Apparently, most canivorous mammals have serveral toxins in their system that would be very upsetting to our owmn biological systems, or something along those lines. It's not a coincidence that lion and bear aren't very popular as entrees. What little good meat could be gained from them wouldn't be nearly as economical as beef or pork.
James
Oh yeah, it would make little sense to farm lions or bears. lol But it also comes down to what part of the animal you're eating. And there are a lot of perceptions surrounding that as well. But again, it's really a cultural divide thing I think. I certainly can't see myself eating various types of seafood for example. But a lot of people enjoy it, so...that's fine. *shrug*
Farto the Magic
Have you ever eaten at a chinese restaurant? Most people have and have, therefore eaten dog or cat. At least they don't serve human. Or do they? 0_o They might be able to ge tdodo meat if they had one preserved in alcohol. Then there's also no need to buy a drink with that. Two birds, one stone. Figuratively speaking, of course.
Boba Fett
Your hunch was correct SasukeUchiha, this site is a fake. If you take a close look, it's obviously a joke of some kind designed to provoke a strong reaction from gullible viewers. For example, it claims to have ready to eat Dodo birds. These birds became extinct, according to National Geographic, by around 1700. As for the issue itself, people eat strange things. Not much you can do about it...
G/S/B Master
It doesn't matter if someone eats dogs, as long you don't eat humans. I eat quails and it's no different from Dogs (though I never ate dogs before >_<). Like James said, many cultures in Asia eat dogs (including the chinese). So yeah, if you're sensitive, then it's explainable, but if you're just grossed out becuase it's gross to you, go study their cultures.
RainbowChick
Thanks for pointing that out G/B/S Master. I really love animals and i guess i was overwhelmed (emotianally) so i didn't notice the little details. Boy do i feel better. Thnx again.
TheShinje
Mmmm. Fyxe
I don't think you would catch me eatting a cat or dog any time soon. But that's my opinion. What I imagin it is that it would be just like eating your pet. Now, if I ate an animal along the lines of a dog or cat, I would have never been able to see it. Otherwise I would feel incredibly guilty. The fact that people would kinda growses me out in any case, but hey, whatever floats their boat! Now what's a real treat is when you take three hampsters, put them all in the same cage, and let one eat the other two. Then, take the new fat one out, grill it, yum yum yum! :p
the_fizz
What you find taboo is not always that way in other countries that do not have food as regular as this country. I mean do not get me wrong, I do not eat anything of that stuff, but I am no vegetarian, either. I do love a good steak, but there are a few things that I will not eat. One example would be Veal, why you ask after all it is a cow and I do eat beef, but Veal is a baby cow(cafe) that they leave in a box for x amount of months and all the cafe can do is eat, sh!t, and lay down ~right in it own sh!t!!! That takes it too far for me. But, hey what other people eat is their own business, who am I to control others all I can do is control myself. As far as the website be real or not I can not say, but what SasukeUchiha says make sense. It was most like but up to get people attention.
Moradri
So. Why is it okay to eat Bossie, or Wilbur, but never Fido and Fluffy? In some places cows are sacred. Some people think eating dogs and cats are disgusting. Well, I don't see a big deal. You eat one, you might as well eat them all.

Vicky
Let's just say... I don't really eat much meat anyway. I guess some people in different places treat and think of animals different to us, or atleast me. They can eat dogs, but it doesn't mean I think the whole idea is okay. I love animals, but I can't stop the whole world from doing things that make me feel sad, and I have no intensions of doing it. I wouldn't eat a dog, I never would, no matter where I come from or live. So... people can eat dogs if they think it's okay, as long as I've got nothing to do with it. In my life, animals are living creatures to me, and I love animals but only eat a few, so there is no way in a million years I would ever eat a dog. Since I don't eat alot of meat I'm not guilty about eating living creatures. ... I have a feeling that made no sense....
Gavin
Well I guess it's live and let live in this situation. I mean I'm no vegetarian and I do enjoy a good fillet-steak on any given occasion but this kinda stuff really does toe the line a little too much for my own comfort. I mean dogs and cats are really no different to cows and chickens so I guess it's just western ideas about what animals to eat and what animals not to eat. In India cows are sacred but you don't hear them going nuts over the fact that most of the western world considers beef to be both edible and delicious. I have personal dealings with several people who come from and have lived in India and have had long talks with them about this matter of beef eating. They don't push me to go vegetarian and I don't push them to go my local McDonalds and have a quarter-pounder with me [even though for some strange reason I don't like beef-burgers]. Again it's just live and let live. It's the same with the fur trade, what's the difference between dog fur (which is sold from China) and Mink, which most people find acceptable. Oh and the correct spelling of a young cow is calf not cafe.
Roxie Faye
Heh. I think, like everyone else has said, it's basically a cultural difference, so whatever. I've never eaten cat or dog, but if you want to, who cares? lol. I love Lynx's Cow/India example. I know that people in Thailand (or at least in Bangkok) don't eat a lot of sheep, for some reason that I can't remember, but you don't see them yelling at people here, that like lamb chops? I don't know about the dogs but my mother told me this a couple days ago, the cats that Chinese people eat don't even look like domestic cats here. They look like weasels/ferrets, she said. And no, I don't think she was lying. She lived in Hong Kong for a year, okay? lol. ~Roxie, beware the ides of March P.s.: Shinji, isn't that Bonsai Kitten thing a hoax, as well?
The Vampire: Ed
Originally posted by wrist cutter You'd be surprised at how good Fluffy can taste if cooked properly.
I should smack you silly for that! My Fluffy is not to be eaten, she is to be worshiped. Worshiped do you hear?! It's bad enough that she's dead, but now you desecrate her memory by referring to her as a food. Bah! :flaming: Anyway, yes, eating cats and dogs seem quite disgusting to some, but in some places it is actually done with little guilt of it. Much like how cows are treated in most places. Some people eat rabbits, frogs, snakes, bugs, deer, turtles, and so on. Hell, some people eat human flesh. There are a lot things people eat in this world that most people would not approve of, but it's done anyway. No real point in thinking about it. Semjaza
If dog meat was culturally acceptable here, I doubt most people would care about eating it. What if we went to some country where people kept cows as pets and considered them man's best friend? Would they be disgusted that most people here eat hamburgers? Probably. That's all it comes down to in the end. Meat is meat.
