Are you a fan of the Koei series' or love the books? Well, I play the Dynasty series and have started on Vol. 1 on the series, and i would love to converse with other fans of the games/ books.

To start things off, i'm going to stake my claim now.
Zhang he is good for speed and quick attacks, Ma Chao for mounted attacks, and Zhao Yun for fun all out pain!
What are you opinons?

I don't think it would be, since anyone who has read the books can also participate. I personally have read Three Kingdoms and played all of the games, as Junyi already knows. My favorite character is Lu Xun, both in the history and the games. First of all, double weapon attacks are simply awesome in my opinion and his speed is quite good, even though his weakness is his range. History-wise, He is perhaps China's youngest person to become Chief Commander in any country. He defended against Liu Bei's unprepared attack brilliantly, setting fire on both ends of his camps and routing the Shu forces beautifully, though this was in part of Zhuge Liang's absence. Before the final attack, the young commander did not falter when the older, more experienced generals looked down upon him and thought him a coward. He proved his worth and earned his respect. He was also the one responsible for Guan Yu's death, but did not take any credit. This turned out good for him, as Lu Meng later died. Though not as cunning or intelligent as Zhuge Liang (This was proven at the Eightfold Ramparts Maze), he was one of the most brilliant minds in all of China. There was a poem that described his qualities during that battle in the book.

He'd mastered war's six arts when he spoke before the chiefs;
Angling for one mighty fish, he set a tasty bait.
For this divided kingdom now has paragons enough.
And shining high above them all--Lu Xun of the south!

So The Three Kingdoms is related to Dynasty Warriors? I rented Dynasty Warriors 4(i think) and played it quite a bit. I used Lu Xun alot but didnt play it for long. It confused me and kinda ticked me off. The game was ok from what I've played but doing the same combos over and over and over again gets annoying. I know you could mix combos up but still they eventually get annoying to do lol.

Because this discussion, thus far, is mostly relative to the video game series, I'm going to move this to the Sony forum. If you want to talk about the books, you may create a seperate thread for that purpose in the Literature forum. That distinction will help things to move along more smoothly. If no one is interested in the books, we'll essentially end up with a video game discussion in Otaku Lounge. On the other hand, if people are more interested in the books, we'll have a literature discussion in Otaku Lounge.

What message should you take with you from my ramblings? Neither discussion is appropriate for Otaku Lounge. It's why we have the other forums to begin with. ^_^

You're right Charles. I'm not sure if anyone besides sunyipee, Junyi and I have read the actual history... But I could be wrong. Anyway, I agree that we should move the thread to the Sony forum instead of the Literature forum. Besides, less hassle for us if you move the thread

Dynasty Warriors is deffinately one of the best action titles out there.
For some reason the DW games always reminded me of those old beat em' up games with endless enemies, such as Double Dragon and Streets of Rage.

As for the whole Chinese history stuff, it never really interested me.

I'm really looking forward to Samurai Warriors, another Koei game much like DW.
From what I've seen it looks and plays just like the other games, only its set in feudal Japan and you get to fight as Samurai and Ninjas instead of Chinese Warlords.

As i've said asfore hand, I like the fairy, and i claim Lu Xun as part of my Fairy Army! Look at his #6 outfit and tell me he ain't a fairy warrior! (No offence to the Homosexuals out there) Zhang he's a Fariy because he has Fairy wings on his back. Ohh well looks like no mentuioning of the book, Cb you remember Zhuge Liang right , the ex-member, he started reading the books, and it was the DW series that brought his to Toaism, funny ain't it? He like Zhuge a bit to much. And Wei Yan might be one too.
Off that note, back to the series. I never used Ma Choa until that afore mentioned buddy rebought DW3, so i used him and loved the dragon armor clad nuckle head!

Romance of the Three Kingoms is a very successful strategy videogame series as well. It seems mostly like people are concentrating on the Dynasty Warrior games though. You should try out the Three Kingdoms series if you get a chance. One was released on the PS2 and could be found pretty cheap.

I don't blame Zhuge for liking Kongming so much. He is perhaps the greatest mind there will ever be. I also congradulate him on his conversion to Taoism. I was interested in Lao Tzu's philosophies. Anyway, I also liked Jiang Wei in the DW games. I liked his spear techniques, they seemed to fit.

yeah but, Zhoa Yun, uses what looks like Shoalin spear techniques. But Jiang Wei is fun to use. ON the Romance stamtement: yes you can buy ROTK VII for $20 at best buy, but i wasn't able to play it, stupid Matt. He played as Leige and was lost and annoyed, he was trying to get an allience with Zhang Liao, then after that didn't work 18 someodd times, he attacked and lost, bad. ROTK is good but I didn't really want to play it, hell i get annoyed with Dynasty in like 2 hrs!
