Writing Charles de Lint

[color=blue]Charles de Lint is a fabulous writer, and his works are based on magic and 'fantasy', if you will. He writes about a circle of friends and their accquaintances, and about the city of Newford. Some of his books are just based on one of those things, and others aren't based on any of those things.

A list of some of his books (there a many) to give you and idea of what i'm talking about:

Vampires
A Wizard's Dozen
Spaceships and Spells
Halflings, Hobbits, Warrows, and Wee Folk
Forests of the Heart
Dreams Underfoot
The Dreaming Place
Seven Wild Sisters
Jack, the Giant-Killer
Moonlight and Vines
Svaha
The Onion Girl
Spirits in the Wires

Hopefully some of those titles bring home the idea of modern fantasy. (i.e. Spaceships and Spells, or Spirits in the Wires)

Now, this post is not to promote Charles de Lint in any way, but i would recommend those magic-intrigued on the forums to check him out. Mainly, i wanted to see if anybody else had discoverd this wealth of ideas and imagination provided to the public. If so, maybe we could start a discussion on some of his thoughts. If not, you could ask about it if your interested, and i can answer your questions. Also, i loaned The Onion Girl to a friend of mine (Terpishore) so if she joins the post i suppose you could question her as well. She seems to be enjoying the book very much though.

Please ask even if you're not sure what i'm talking about, but also please read through any posts and responses as well, so that i don't have to repeat myself.

[color=blue][size=1]Aahhh..Charles de Lint. Such a fabulous writer, and it's not at all just about magic like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. It's like...very modern. I mean there's like abuse, and drug use, and it's all very...non-cliche. I love The Onion Girl, and I highly suggest that all of you check it out. It's a fascinating book--i've been utterly consumed by it. The books are fat in volume, but I'm finding that I don't want it to end. Everybody who likes magic or fantasy or just likes READING needs to at least look at this book or any of the others on his list. [/color][/size]
