Semjaza Posted February 4, 2004 Share Posted February 4, 2004 I figured I'd throw these up here just to see what people thought. I'm unlikely to change any of them regardless though heh. They're for the header portion of my site, which is why they're all so similar. They've been compressed to PNGs so they'd remain lossless and still a decent size. JPG compression wasn't cutting it, especially because it would artifact the red portions when I got it down to a decent filesize. Anyway, the comic images were provided by crimeboss.com. I cleaned them up, filled in any scratches or flaws and put them in. I put the texture over the comic images to give a comic print look to it which I liked. Plus it fits the rest of the site well. I obviously made up the quotes for the most part. Some refer to specific things from TV shows like the Simpsons and Beavis & Butthead. Some don't. I think my favorite is the bondage one lol. I like the one about him burning her if she doesn't tell how she keeps her hair so shiny. ^__^ I really only have one beef with any of them. THe first one...the arrow that is drawn to show the person speaking is going up while the person is below even the talk bubble. I think it should point down, not up. Small thing really. I really really love the filter you put on there. Just gives it that comic-book feel, exactly how you intended. I hope to see more of your stuff 'round this part of the site. The bubble is pointing at the man. He killed the woman and her body is on the floor behind him. He's carrying the axe and her decapitated head by the hair. So he's the one saying this to her heh. My favourite by far would have to be the Larry's Shadow Games one. I am not incredibly digging the backgrounds behind the pictures- they are a bit too lurid and bright for my tastes, but that is just me. With the right site, they should look quite good. Perhaps having some darker, pastel colours would be better, but I don't know what their background context is going to be in so... we'll see how they go. Overall, I like them all. I always wondered where you got those images- I loved them. Good stuff Semjaza. One little note though... 'Mannequins with Kill Appeal'? lol. That is incredibly strange. On my site, there's enough white offsetting the banners that I don't think they're a problem. Afterall, they'd only be displayed one at a time on the site (randomized -- one of these is loaded randomly with each refresh). With them all listed here in a row, I think the coloring could possibly be overwhelming. So on the site I think it works out for the best... but I have a lot of really vivid and bold colors on there as it is heh. That's just what I wanted. I suppose it could almost too much in some cases for people, but I've grown used to it and like it heh. As for the name for the site -- Both are based on songs. Wrapped in Plastic is a Manson song, which I feel fits the comic idea of the site. That and the lyrics just fit the idea of the site well too heh. Mannequins with Kill Appeal is from Diamond Dogs by David Bowie, which I think fit it as well. Mostly because 1.) it's odd and 2.) the song makes me think of the future thanks to its lyrics. v2 was the future of the original WiP, so what the hell, I figured heh. Thanks for the comments. Might I ask exactly why 'Mannequins with Kill Appeal' makes you think of the future though? It is a rather odd thing to remind one of the future, don't you think? Semjaza Posted February 5, 2004 Author Share Posted February 5, 2004 Heh. The site is more or less done. I've explained in one of my posts on there why it's not as design heavy as the original. Mostly because I just couldn't update it much because I was so constrained. V2 doesn't look as impressive in many respects, but I prefer it because I can finally add all these sections I've wanted to for quite some time. That and it's not so resolution intensive. I basically sacrificed design for function, although I don't think v2 looks bad by any means. I'm probably going to adjust some of the graphics for the sections. For example, I think the Navigation graphic is just too bright considering how close it is to the banner above it. I might swap those colors with another. I need to add a "sites" section as well, for when the new URL is in full swing. [url]http://www.slownerveaction.org/wip[/url] is where it currently is. [url]www.wrappedinplastic.net[/url] will point to it soon. As for the lyrics... well, no, I guess that part doesn't remind me of the future. The rest of the song does in some ways, because of things it refers to (it's very strangely written, but I love it -- I think it's my favorite Bowie song lol). However, that's one of my favorite lines in the song and I thought it kind of fit the violence level and oddity of the golden age comics I was using. Time for bed. I can't really think of a better caption, though; the picture strikes me as a little odd, actually. I think mostly because it's a disembodied hand with an axe. (reminds me of The Simpsons when Homer tried to knock out the babysitter at the zoo with colorforms, haha) and "Oh my God! That penmanship is atrocious!" (I just kept laughing and laughing at this one...it's so ridiculous to think that someone would dwell on penmanship when there's a guy with a note stabbed through his heart on their front step lol). I think they all look good. They show up well on my computer, they're readable and pleasing (well, as pleasing as murderous rampages can be) to the eye. I had to redraw part of the tile floor and the wall, because I had to make the image substantially smaller to get it all on there. I linked the entire original cover in an earlier post, so that should explain what's going on there heh. Anyway.
