mitsuru
Hi, Well, I'm beginning to write a term paper for my English class. :o And I'm writing about how "Anime is in the process of revolutionizing America." So I'm trying to find different angles. I want to compare Osamu Tezuka, to Shakespeare, and how they both created something that was influential on today's culture. I also want to analyze how anime has increased the mainstream market value. But, I still feel like I'm lacking certain perspectives to add versatality. I would REALLY like to go into how anime is a huge boost of intellect. Naturally, this is very subjective - so how would go about it? We're allowed to cite our opinions, but we can't go into first person. Also, my friend who is sitting next to me as I type this, is doing his term paper on Akira Kurosawa, and how he has influenced the process of film making... So if anyone can help him out, that'd be cool too. ^_^
Flashlight
Well, the first question you should ask yourself is: Is anime really in the process of revolutionizing america? Next, are you addressing anime as a whole, or are you going to use specific titles. To say anime boosts your intellect would be, well, a little stupid. Watching, say, Ranma 1/2 or Slayers or Azumanga Daioh, you can't really say any of those anime really have a huge impact on my mind. I've seen a lot of people say they want to write something on anime, usually in the form of an essay or whatever, and rarely do they have any idea what they are talking about. It seems like a good idea, but just turns out stupid on paper, because anime is just to big. When writing this essay, don't refer to it as anime, but say things like "In specific genre's of anime" or "In this anime title" to get your point across. Anime doesn't boost your intellect, but some specific shows might, so say "Some anime, such as... can be a major boost of intellect" or whatever. Something like that. Your going to have to be a bit vague in some places. Writing skills are really going to be important. I hope this helps, and if not I'll post more (And I'm sure others will too!)!. Goodluck with it, it seems like you have some good ideas :D
mitsuru
Thanks! I don't think saying that "Anime is revolutionizing American culture" is vague. Because revolution, itself, is so broad. I do, however, agree with what you were saying in the "intellect" field. BUT. I can still say it. Because the titles you referred to, aren't shown in America. They're still considered "Underground". 50% of the animes that are shown in America DO boost intellect though. From Bebop to Kenshin, we have gained different philosophies and historical knowledge. True, the other 50% is made up kid animes such as Medabots and Digimon. But, that's not to say they still don't help the process along with their target audience. The subject of addressing, is simply anime and culture. Since the day of Osamu Tezuka, so many artists have went of what he started. It's like Shakespeare. He carved drama. Then, other playwrites began to carry on his legacy, in the process of making his own. The same can be said or Osamu Tezuka. He's an inspiration for artists that are making landmarks in the US right now, like Akira Toriyama. And although anime is a big and broad subject, this paper is a 5 page report. It isn't an essay, which I think is the common mistake. It's a "term paper". We have to use the MLA, and blah, blah, blah. Anyway, thanks! Lots of help. ^_^
