Corey
Allen strolled through the downtown of New Madison, an exceptionally clean place compared to most inner city places he had been. There was no floating trash debris. There were no prostitues on the street, though he figured they were there somewhere. There weren't even stray animals. He smiled to himself. His last few hours on Earth couldn't have been spent somewhere better. The sun had just went down, the temperature dropping slightly. He slipped into a small Irish Pub and sat down on a barstool, not letting anyone get a good look at his face. The bartender, a rough Irish man, stepped in front of him steriotypically cleaning a glass. Bartender- "The name's O'Conner, David O'Conner. What can I get for you Mr. Chubbs?" Allen looked up, bewildered out of keeping his face hidden. Allen- "How do you know me?" David made a 'harumph' sound deep in the back of his throat. David- "How long has it been since you've been in a bar Mr. Chubbs?" Allen thought about it. Allen- "At least twelve years... Maybe thirteen or fourteen, why?" He pointed to a small oval sphere just inside of the doorway. David- "That is a DNA 'reader'. It sucks up a bit of your dead skin cells and logs that you've been here. It also brings you up on this screen right here." He pulled a small computer screen from under the bartop. He touched a small button on the side and Allen's profile came up. Picture, information, weight, height, even blood type and eye color. Allen- "Amazing..." The bartended nodded. David- "Cost me a pretty penny too, but it's nice to know who's in here. If someone comes in with a warrant out for their arrest, the system automatically calls the police. It's great. I haven't had a major fight in here for almost two months." Allen nodded. "So what can I get you?" Allen looked over the bottles of alcohol in back. Allen- "How about a Bloody Mary. Celery, olives, and two pickles. Three shots of vodka. Spicy." The man nodded and quickly made the drink, he set it down in front of Allen. David- "Anything else?" Allen shook his head while biting into the celery stalk. "I'm just a call away if you need another." He walked down to the other end of the bar. Allen took a long swig of his drink and grimaced at the immediate heartburn that rose in his chest. He swallowed two heartburn pills that David had so generously provided and downed the rest of his drink. He though it over for a bit, letting the small amount of vodka creep into his system, and ordered another.
skedy
OOC: Sorry I?m so late, computer crashed, and sorry it?s so short. Stress faults, overbalanced engines and malfunctioning maintenance bots had provided Adam Faulkner with a hectic morning and a late meeting. Six hours ago he had met the crew, the people, he was accompanying into space. Thirty minutes late, un-kept and tired as all hell the engineer didn?t have time to get to know the other members of the crew, he had hurry back to the space research and design facility, on the outskirts of New Madison, he had been stationed at. Here he sat with a twelve other men reevaluating the chamber destined to hold the creature responsible for the murder of two security members and a pair of seven man corporate, military trained teams. The hundred millimeter thick metal doors sealing the cell suddenly seemed pitiful compared to the security footage the men had just finished pouring over. Faulkner sighed and checked his watch, forty-six hours to fix the magnitude of problems he was responsible for, problems that seemed to be doubling by the second? Dagger
Helena sat at a table in the corner, silently sipping her martini as she watched Allen drink. It had taken her several minutes to recognize his face, although he'd done an impressively good job of keeping his back turned to her and all the other scattered customers. His body language was more difficult to memorize and analyze then most, but Helena never shirked a challenge. Crossing her legs, she leaned back and gently swirled her half-empty glass from side to side. He would have to notice her sooner or later; anybody with his level of experience and training could tell when he was being stared at. She ignored the curious glances of the other bar-goers. Though Helena was perfectly capable of going unnoticed in a crowd, tonight she didn't feel it was worth the effort. "You here alone?" She flinched inwardly, her eyes narrowing as she looked up to survey the lanky man who had approached her. "Don't even think about it." "Oh, come on..." he muttered, planting his hands on her table. Helena smiled tightly and attempted to slide away, annoyed at being forced to cause a scene. This man was irritatingly tall.... she wondered briefly how he'd feel with her drink adorning his expensive-looking shirt.
Radaghast
"Any change?" "No sir, his condition-" "I don't give a rats *** about his condition. I mean what he is doing." The man looked down at the scared little private. "Well, he's been pretty much the same, Mr. Wylde. All he's been doing is rocking back and forth muttering to himself." "Do we know what language it is?" "Well sir, most of it is stuff we've never even heard before. But there was a part that the computer knew. It turned out to be Latin." The private clicked his mouse a few times, then turned the monitor to face Nicholas. Save yourselves from hell, he muttered under his breath. Interesting. Just like before.
Raiha
Lilia Sethen watched Mr. Wylde speak to the private, then stepped up behind them and waited patiently for them to notice. Both turned at the same time and sized her up. She smiled at them. "Did you say he spoke latin?" "Yes....." "Did he say anything...else?" "Not that we could pick up." "Can I see the list's of things he's said?" The private shrugged and handed her a clip board. She picked it up and skimmed over it, running her finger down the words. Then she stopped at the next latin phrase. Obviously, they had lost it in the translation. She raised an eyebrow, then spoke the words outloud. "Citra menbri diminutionem et mortis periculum." "And that means...?" "No kiling, and no amputation. Comes from the Spanish Inquisition. It was their creedo." "... ......why would he be saying that?" "Why would he be talking about hell?" "And who are you?!?" "Lilia Sethen, Linguist, Communications Specialist, assigned to this mission from hell." She smiled at them and set the clipboad down. Then she turned and left withouta nother word.
Corey
He set his second glass aside, munching on the rather long pickle wedge impaled on a small red sword. The back of his neck tingled slightly, the hair standing on end. He shot a quick glance into the mirror behind the bar, seeing the back of a rather tall man where he felt the stare had came from. He ate the rest of his pickle and swivelled on the barstool, facing directly toward the tall man. He looked slightly aggravated. He continually shifted from foot to foot, and never turned around. Allen chuckled. He was trying to pick up a girl, and it certainly didn't seem to be going well. He swiveled to his right, putting his good ear toward the mans direction, trying to pick up a segment of his conversation. Man- "...little numbers. Just seven little numbers. That's all I want." He shifted to his right foot, leaning on the table with both hands. The woman in front of him said something Allen couldn't quite pick up. "What?" He stood straight up. "You little *****." Allen sighed and stood up. Allen- "Yo, David." He walked down with a smile on his face. "You have a problem." He looked at Allen confusedly for a second then saw the man on the other side of the room. David- "Dammit..." He set his glass down and pulled up a walkietalkie from under the bar. "Hey Adam, get in here. Jarvis is here again." A mountain of a man came into the bar from a side entrance and quickly made his way to the man David called Jarvis. "He's been in here since we opened. And he's always caused trouble, trying to force women into coming home with him. We flagged his DNA in the computer, but there are ways to get around it." Jarvis was thrown from the bar by Security Guard Adam. Allen turned his head back to the woman he had thought stared at him. "Thanks Adam." His walkietalkie crackled. Adam- "No prob boss." He switched the walkietalkie off and stowed it under the bar again. Allen stared at the woman, taking only a brief moment to call up her name, and walked over. Allen- "Well, Ms. Bahbem, may I join you?"
Gavin
Familiar Voice: Make that two... Allen turned round to see Van standing in the doorway, his long brown coat had the visible sign of rain and his brown-ish grey hair seemed to be a little wet. Van turned and faced the barman squinting for a moment as if trying to remember the barman's name, he snapped his fingers in remembrance before nodding and speaking. Van: David O'Connell!, heh how are you, it's been a while since I've been in here. David: True, just over 10 years Van, I assume the three of you are together. Allen: Well that all depends of Ms Bahbem, may we join you ? Helena: I don't see why not... Van: Ah I think I'll sit here on one of the bar-stools for a minute before I head over, I want to talk with Dave here for a bit about what's been happening here since I last spoke with him and his father. Allen: Suit yourself, we'll be right here. Van turned to his fellow countryman and sat down on one of the stools provided, Ba had visited this place long before the D.N.A scanner had been installed but he'd not visited here in a long time. He asked Dave for a pint while he was waiting and had another look about the room, there were various pieces of Irish newspapers on the wall as well as several different flags and plaques belonging to the O'Connell family. Van saw that he'd not taken down the picture of Van, Dave and his father during their countless games of poker in the bar, he laughed heartily and then grimaced slightly as he thought of all the different people he'd known and lost in his lifetime. He thought of all the different people he'd known that had died of that accursed mission, Satell, Tex and the others... he wouldn't let Sam down, not this time. Dave returned with the pint of Guinness Van had asked for and put it down on the counter, Van turned and saw that Dave had aged a lot in ten years, although not many people got younger during the course of their life. Picking the pint-glass up in his hand he sniffed it for a moment as if savouring the flavour before gulping back the first mouthful, wiping his lips in ecstasy he patted Dave on the shoulder lightly as the two began talking of times and people gone by. Dave informed him that he'd been running the bar since his father passed away a few years back, Van frowned as apologised for not being at the funeral as he hadn't know when it was, Dave merely smiled and thanked Van even if he was a bit late. Van smiled as he drained off the last of the pint before speaking again. Van: Was that Adam I saw earlier ?, I can't believe he's still here after 10 years. David: A well sure he's a hard worker even if he's not 100% Irish looks over at the others at the table and grins back at Van. Sure if he left I'd be hard stuck for another doorman like him, he's one hell of a bouncer God bless him. Van: Yeah he's a fine strong lad, remember the night Frank tried to cheat us at the game of poker. David: Oh yeah... hahaha, he's not shown his face around here since then, they say he's still afraid of Adam, ah sure he was only having a bit of fun with that deck sure we were all in on it, 'cept Adam maybe. Van: Laughs in surprise I wasn't, I thought the little wretch was working on his own, I never knew the two of you'd teamed up against me, Adam and your father, ah sure I suppose it was all a laugh in the end... tell me you still have the picture. Dave reached in down under the bar to produce a color photograph, Van looked a lot younger that he did now although the specks of grey were beginning to show. There were in total three men around the card table in the centre, Dave, Van and Dave's father, there were also two chairs over turned, looking at the near edge of the photo it was still possible to see Adam throwing Frank clear out the door. Van slammed his hand down on the table as he laughed, tears were beginning to stream down his eyes, but they weren't from laughing. Van used his other hand to cover over his eyes as he tried to clear off the tears from his eyes, Dave put his hand of Van's shoulder and patted him telling him that it was OK, coughing and spluttering Van took his hand away to reveal his tear-stung eyes. Van: Oh God I miss them all Dave, your father, your mother, my family, my son, oh God what's wrong with me lately. Allen: You're still human Van, that trip didn't make you any less susceptible to grief, and I guess coming back here for the first time in a long while has sparked some of it off again. Van wiped his eyes with a tissue and then blew his nose, he finished the pint and asked Dave for another, he sat down at the table feeling better, he tried to lighten to mood by asking what they'd been talking about...
Hinata
Trini walked back from the personal holding closet signing out Sam's files. Although Allen didn't say now there was no yes answer given either. She took it upon herself to take advantage of that fact and began to sort through Sam's correspondence and diaries. Many of the books she flipped through had unrecognizable writings, the majority jumbled all over the page in an unorganized manner. She put those books and letters in a seperate pile and grabbed one book, dated about 10 years ago. She left her quarters and began to move down the hall heading towards the long corridor in which Sam was being held. The cell his was in was a 15 by 15 room with padding to help cushion some of the harm he tried to inflict upon himself. Sometimes it helped oter times he still managed. As she moved down it slowly, she remembered the earlier event involving the spider-like creature that managed to break free. Luckily the mess from the incident was gone and nothing shown through. Footsteps coming towards her managed to break her concentration as she looked up to see Lilia. The young woman's professionalism and confidence shined as she moved down the hall. She looked down into the book and flipped through the pages and then quietly closed the book when Lilia was within arms reach. "Hey Lilia," Trini asked holding the book behind her for just a moment. "Yes," Lilia stopped and her eyes were kind of perturbed showing the Trini must have disrupted her train of thought. She quickly apologized for the hinderance and got to the point. " There is some paperwork I'd like for you to look at, much of it in a foriegn language. I think you may be able to help me translate it." She stopped speaking for a moment as the silence of the hallway ran in her ears for a few seconds. " That is if you aren't busy with some other aspect of the mission? Besides I'd really prefer your help." Lilia looked into Trini's eyes for a moment searching the thoughts moving in her head. "I'll see what I can do for you....I'll come and get it when I have a chance." "Thanks, Lilia, I really appreciate it." "No problem," she turned quickly her mind quickly going back to the board once again continuing the flow of information. Trini kept heading towards the door hopeing that some how she would be able to hear Sam once more.
Raiha
One of the functionaries dropped by later in the evening, asking Lilia if there was anything he could do for her. She grinned and brought her body around, flicking her hair gracefully. "Take the papers offered to me by Trini and bring them here please." "Immediately." He left, placing the tray of rice crackers and tea down on the only clear space on the table. She smiled and turne dback to the whiteboard. Right had wielding a purple pen, left hadn clasped gracefully behind her back, she began to write down everything he had said in all languages onto the whiteboard she had capitalized on. English, Latin, Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish. The board room they had used for the meeting was swiftly becoming a place for her to stash all files on hand and spread them out over the overlarge table top. Her pens were scattered around, making it resemble a warzone. She laughed happily, then sipped her tea and went back to work. "Hmmm mm... Dominus, Gloriae en excelecies Deo...... ..Laudamus Te." Her smile broaded ever so slightly. Then she closed her eyes and tilted her head back slightly. Everything made sense to her, even if everyone else thought he was speaking gibberish. From what she could tell, he was telling both the past and the future. He seemed to have no care for the present Ah well, there was time to get into his brain later. For now she was having fun just reading all the things he was spewing. "I will take your posessions for my own.... ....you will serve .....me." She scratched her head and absentmindedly took the files the functionary handed her. She opened them and looked down onto what was even more gibberish. Only it was all mashed together. "Thanks alot Trini..."
Baron Samedi
Nathan sat in the Taxi, gazing idly out of the window at the passing traffic. He felt suspense, nervousness, paranoia. After being contacted so quickly... there was obviously a leak in the network. This was just ******* excellent. Just...great. After half an hours worth of travelling, they pulled up at the chainlink fence surrounding the centre. Nathan paid the driver a substantial tip and, flashing the security guard his ID, walked across the pavement and disappeared into the maze of rooms inside the complex. Sure, he could have taken the underground bullet-train from the restaurant-cum-holdings [to integrate where we were which was, for some reason holding Sam, to the headquarters I described]. But he... couldn't go back there. He needed to take the long way home. Sprawling on a couch in the main living area of the complex, he shut his eyes and let his mind wander.
Hinata
She stood in the small office for a bit looking at the cameras that were showing Sam in the cell. His whole body seemed deformed and he was beyond recognition. What have they done to you Sam Her eyes were held to the ground as tears began to swell up. As she felt a tear drop from her eyes she heard the men speak to one another. "Look at his eyes man, their planted right on us." Trini looke up immediatley as Sam's eyes concentrated on the exact spot where the camera was situated. She dired her eyes and also focused on him for aminute seeing a devious smile come across his face. "He's giving me the creeps, switch the camera to another one." "Wait-" Trini said holding out her hand, over the console, trying to hold Sam's glare just a bit longer. She soon heard a faint whisper in her ear. IT wasn't the voice she wanted but the evilness that was dwelling within Sam. She blinked and shook her head. She soon removed her hand from the console and allowed the men to change the camera angle. Sam's body though stayed in the same place. She no longer took notice and headed promptly away from that place. She soon remember that Lilia would be coming for the files now in her possession and moved quickly back to her quarters to get them in order. She soon got to her room when a knoc was heard at her door. She immediately got the files and moved to the door. "Here ya go-" "Are these the files you wish to be delivered to Ms Lilia?" The young man asked holding his hands out. "Yes they are," he took the files from her and turned away. "Thank you," she closed the door behind him and went back to her bed, she laid there looking at the ceiling for a bit before she scrambled for one of his diaries reading its contents!!!
Raiha
Lilia Sethen leafed through the files, splicing down everything important until she had tacked masses of paper to the open space on the whiteboard. Then, she went through everything one more time with a very large highlighter, having more than anyone really should ever have while looking at what most historians would consider jibberish. Only thing was, she knew exactly what he was saying and what he was making allusions and references to. As she worked, she took a sip from her now cold tea from time to time, enjoying herself more than was really necessary. At one point the functionary came by to see if she needed anything, only to find her imersed in the lines of a poem he had recited. "en Cielo.... ...tonight I can write the saddest lines about her." "Miss Sethen?" "Yes?" "Can I get you anything else?" "Can you refresh this tea for me please? And tell Ms. Trini that I'm making headway with the files." She smiled at his bow and turned back to her work. Finally, she had cleared all the papers and shreded them, writing down all the encessary information. Finally, it looked like she had constructed a flow chart of all viable information, putting everything that related in particular colums, from religion to history to astronamy and back again to the humanity of everyone around him....Sam had definetly taken a trip off the deep end. "And then we will all dispair. And die. ....that's from a C.S. Lewis book. How would he have known about that?" Lilia hummed to herself, fingering her hair absentmindedly, wielding a purple pen with deadly acuracy. In time she had constructed another timeline, charting out his various rantings and drawing various conclusions. On the right side she had a list of all his spoken languages, and every author he had cited. In reality, this job really was starting to look up. Not a bad way to spend her last hours on the planet.
Corey
Sorry I've been away, everyone. I've just recently been accepted into an extremely well written play and I've had some post school rehersals. This plus work plus homework equals very little comp time. I'll try and be more regular, I promise. ??? Allen stepped into his apartment and popped a couple more antacids into his mouth. Five Bloody Marys had him pretty well sloshed. Especialy for a man that hadn't had anything to drink for years. And on an empty stomach. He plopped down on his bed and shut his eyes, thinking about how little time he still had on earth. Just a little more than twentyfour hours. Tomarrow he'd... He'd what? Allen- "..." What did he have to do? He knew his crew, even felt quite comfortable with them. Helena in particular. She reminded him of his sister. The three of them (Van, Helena, and himself) had talked for close to five hours, relaying their different histories, Van and Allen mostly telling theirs to Helena. They talked of their careers. They talked about their lives. And most imortantly, they talked of the prior mission. How they had gotten to the Event Horizon and found nothing but horror and death. How Satell had saved them all and gave her life for theirs. How the Event Horizon had exploded, apparently tearing a hole in their dimension. And how Allen had lost his ship to the demons of the other dimension. He rolled over in his bed, unable to shut his mind down dispite the vodka in his system. His mind was drowning in thoughts of the upcomming mission. Fears. Hopes. Possibilities. Thousands upon thousands of outcomes. He rolled over again, hugging the pillow with both hands and letting his mind drift back to his old ship, the Bladerunner. He missed it. It was a great ship. Many missions were succesfully completed in that ship. He wished he had it now... Allen- "That what I'll do... I'll tour my new ship." He smiled slightly. If that slimey Wylde wasn't lying, they should have a pretty good hunk of metal to cruise in. "Yeah... Tomarrows just a day away..." He drifted off to sleep, images of his sleek new ship trying to compose themselfes in his minds eye.
Gavin
I feel we need to get into this ship and on our way before this dies from lack of RP. -------------------- Van's eyes were practically glued shut from the night before, he'd enjoyed his little chat with Helena and Allen and felt it good to go back over some of the stuff that had happened in his life before the Event Horizon mission. Allen had always reminded him of his son but now he was more like a brother to Van, Helena was a bit of a mystery, her French accent was quite different to what he usually heard we well as her distinct personality... He attempted to raise his head off the pillow again so that he could get up, never again he promised, he may have been able to drink hard but there was no escaping the hangover the morning after. After three attempts he rose from the bed and went to take a shower, the warm waters reminded him of the first day on the Bladerunner after exiting the stasis gel. Getting dressing he felt the urge to go see the new tub they'd be flying in, if it was anything like the last mission he'd really need a good medical bay... That and a hell of a lot of guns, he walked out of the room he'd been sleeping in and knocked on Allen's door. Allen answered groggily dressed in a dressing gown and a hairdo that showed he'd been tossing in his sleep, Van laughed and walked inside surveying Allen's room, it was pretty much the same as Van's except a few things were in different places. Van went over to the kettle and started making a cup of coffee for Allen, Van savoured the smell of the coffee but had always hated the taste, after a few seconds the kettle had boiled and Van had the coffee ready. Allen was in the shower and Van checked the news for anything that might prove of interest, sunny weather report, a political debate and few kids shows, not much else. He switched off the TV as Allen emerged cleaner and smelling better than before, Van handed him the coffee and Allen gladly drank it back while Van went to make himself a cup of tea. Allen asked Van what he was doing here and he replied that he was going to go see their new ship to see if it was up to the task. Allen responded that he was going to do the same and they might as well go together. Van: The ship better be able to handle what it's thrown this time, I suppose they've analysed the data from the previous mission and equipped her with what we'll need this time around. Allen: Any suggestions. Van: Guns, lots of Guns... Allen: [Laughs]. He noticed a small gathering in the Lobby, Trini, Lilia and Helena were already present and Van guessed that they were all there for the same reasons. Van walked up to them and gave a wide smile, Trini responded by gaving him a hug and it seemed for a moment that life was good again. Allen was making his way down at near enough the same time the elevator doors opened to reveal Nathan standing calmly preparing to exit. It all seemed a bit weird to Van that everyone had the same idea but he guessed they we all just ready to get this trip underway. Allen: Well I see that everyone is already present, first we're going to check out our new ship and then we're going to check on Sam and make sure that he can be transported safely. Everyone nodded and it seemed that they day was afoot...
Hinata
Before Allen and Van had made their way to the lobby. The three women present were already starting up a bit of racket with the amount of small talk they made to get by with the minutes that seemed to pass very slowly. "Okay Trini," Helena started," We told you about us now it's your turn." The older lady thought back for a moment and was actually not as ready as she thought to answer it. "Hmmm, where she I start?" She pondered the question a bit longer as both Lilia and Helena sipped their bevereages. "Well lets see, I've been a medical assistant for over 20 years now, I've lived in New York, Boston, parts of Florida, Calirnia, but most of my life was spet in New York. I was working there when I met a man that would cha my life in more ways than one." "Yes I heard about that," Lilia nodded noting the story that was given to her by a subordinant befroe she left for this mission." "YEah well, I wish it never happened," Trini said looking into her cup. "Well if I were in the same situation I' do the same." Helena looked between the two women before finally saying, "It sounds like you two are holding a secret, tell me." Trini sighed and answered up," Well it's not the kind of secret that can actually be kept hidden, before this happened I was already alone then when it did happened I lost the only family I came to love and that was his." She looked down and took another sip of her coffee wishing now that is was something much stronger. " It was before I went on the first mission, Two years to be exact but for the longest time he began to change, he became more possessive and began to push me or sometimes slap me." "And you stayed around for that?" Helena asked a voice of hatred coming through. "Well that's what I was doing that night, I was going to leave him, I had my own place and evreything, I just had to get the last of my things from the apartment and go. I wish I didn't see him ther that night though. He slowly saw my things disappear and soon got the hint. I had the last box ready and by the door where I was leaving a note saying bye I don't want to see him again, you know all that ********." She smiled a bit and took another sip of her coffee before beginning again." Well he came home saw the box and me by the table leaving him a note. Basically to say he was pissed off and threatened me. What I didn't know was that he had a gun under his shirt. He began to yell, I stayed calm and tried to by pass him. He of course didn't let me go by him so easily and I still tried to go. Soon I felt it against my side. As I looked down I saw the weapon and stepped back. He held it right at me saying the same words they do in movies.' I won't let you be with anyone else I kill you beore that happenes, blah blah blah,' I heard it many times before he went to that extent but I realy believed him with the weapon To my luck he put it down went I went beside the sofa and he came at me once again trying to hit me. Thats where we struggled, I lucklyily broke free got the gun and shot him. End of story." Trini's nature seemed nonchalant to the exprience now. It now longer ate at her as it had done so many times but this time the stripes she recived for the deed no longer seemed to matter. Helena seemed to want more but was unable to get more from her, thats when Van pooped in the door. Trini gave him a hug and he said his hellos to Helena and Lilia. "Had fun with us old men Helena?" He said grapping a cup of tea. "I''ve had better," she responded right before Allen and Nathan came into the door. He explained the reason for meeting and soon they were off. She couldn't wait to see the ship hoping that is was just as beautiful as the Bladerunner had been.
Corey
Allen looked around at the group, checking off names in his head, and again came up short. Allen- "I don't know about this guy..." Van turned to him. Van- "What guy?" Allen watched the elevator expectantly, waiting for Adam to come out of it... ... ... ... He didn't. Allen- "Adam Faulkner, our engineer..." He glanced at the elevator again. "Let's go people. If he misses the tour, he'll just have to get aquainted with our new ship a different time." They walked out of the compound to find a nice little charter bus awaiting them. The group stepped on and sat down without incident. The doors to the bus closed and it began pulling out. A muffled voice sounded from outside. Allen turned his head already knowing what he was going to see. Adam- "Stop the bus!" He banged on the window. "Stop!" Allen looked at him for a moment longer and pressed the emergency stop button. The bus was computerized, so there was no driver. Allen walked to the front of the bus and got out. Adam walked up to him, panting. Allen- "Mr. Faulkner, do you usually have a problem with punctuality?" He bent at the waist, hands on his knees. The bus had travelled a good distance and he had to run pretty fast to catch up. Adam- "No... No sir... No one... Told me about... A meeting..." Allen- "What did you think we were going to do Mr. Faulkner?! Just walk onto a ship the day of the mission without the slightest idea about its layout, its capabilities, or its systems?" Adam looked up at Allen and shook his head between breaths. Adam- "No sir... I just thought-" Allen- "From now on you will either be punctual, or you will be off of this mission. Understood?" Allen stared at the man. He straightened up and nodded. Adam- "Yes sir... I understand." Allen- "Don't call me sir." He opened the door for Adam and watched him get onto the bus. He followed, feeling slightly bad about his outburst. Stress was getting to him, and it wasn't maing things easier. The bus started up and they headed toward the New Madison Docks.
Raiha
As usual, Lilia Sethen had chosen a seat next to the front, which placed her in very close vicinity of the captain. He looked at her out of the corner of his eye. She was wearing another linen suit, obviously without a shirt underneath. But no matter, she was more or less covered. In her lap rested a professional style breifcase, which was more than likely stuffed full of various papers and documents, if then pen on her right ear was any indication. A regular study-a-holic if he had ever seen one. Without warning she turned her head to him and smiled again. "Good day Captain." "Greetings Lilia, did you have a good 24 hours free?" "Yes. I sent through the files of our upset friend. Found more than just a little information. It's all in my lap." "....You worked the entire time?" "More or less." She smiled again and looked forwards, clutching the case a little closer to her chest. "Did you see the whiteboard I had capitalized on?" "More or less" "Heh, I can't seem to stop working when I have something to solve. Like....why he knew about all the classics in Earth's literature and why he was reciting them in bits and pieces." "I don't think his knowledge of our works were that impressive." "Then apparently whatever's infected him knows alot more than we give it credit for. And it's smart. A little too smart." She sighed to herself and leaned back, relaxing once more. Mentally she rehearsed her report in her head...... ...relaying it back and forth.
Baron Samedi
Nathan lay sprawled on the back seat. He had a jumper bunched under his head for a pillow, and his feet were crossed, resting on the windowsill on the other side of the bus. He had on a pair of heavy denim shorts, Globe sneakers and an Easy Street T-Shirt. He was reading an X-Files novel, surprisingly appropriate for their mission. Feeling slightly woozy from the swaying of the bus [computer guidance never made exceedingly smooth turns] he closed the book and sat up properly. Looking out the window, he saw their destination. A gigantic hangar, enclosed within two... no, three chainlinked, razor-wired fences. Giant spotlights hung from poles stationed at intervals along the fence. Even in this, broad daylight, they were still on. The immense doors to the hangar were closed, but Nathan could see people scurrying around outside, setting up lights on the tarmac, and popping in and out of foxholes. Nathan grinned. Like them damn... Meer cats. That was it. Despite the lazy look in his eye, Nathan was nervous. He could not wait to see the new ship. His first real space-faring-vessel too. His home for the next few months...and maybe his coffin too, but he'd have to wait and see how things turned out.
Corey
I have two quick announcements. ? First, skedy is no longer with us. He decided to drop out for reasons he will release at his own descretion. His character will be delt with a little later in the story. ? Number two, I just want to make everyone aware that I have not given up on this. I'm, unfortunately, not as able to find time for leisure activities as I used to. Advanced Placement test is just a month or so away, and I'm actually planning on studying for it. This will continue at a slightly laidback pace until I find more time. I'm sorry about it. ??? They drove behind the hanger, the bright sun being blocked by its massive steel walls, and immediately fell silent. A few small conversations had been brewing, but the mutual excitement overpowered all of that. The bus stopped at a closed gate. Five men came out of a nearby, and extremely squat, building. Four were armed with Series Seven Pulse Rifles. One held a small handheld pistol. The four with the SPR's flanked the bus, two on each side, and leveled the weapons at us. The man with the pistol entered the bus. He looked at each of us in turn, and holstered his pistol. ???- "I am Major Gerald Fisk of the USESA. All of you will present you id card for in-" Trin- "I'm sorry. You're with the... who?" The man glared at her. Fisk- "The USESA. The United States Experimental Spacecraft Association. You will present your id cards for inspection. You will then allow us to take a small blood sample for DNA fingerprinting. Be warned that all of your actions will be monitored from this point forward wether you are admitted or not." He looked around at everyone. They were looking at him and not moving. "Id cards... Now!" Everyone went for their cards. They each brought them out one by one and handed them to Mr. Fisk. He left the bus and entered the building. The others kept their weapons on us. Allen- "Experimental..." Van jumped up a seat. One of the gunmen tracked him with the gun. Van- "What are you thinking..." Allen peered at the door Fisk had left through. Allen- "I'm thinking I'm not exactly comfortable with an experimental ship... This design has probably never been off the ground... All they have is simulation data." He shifted. "This makes me uncomfortable..." Fisk came back out with the id cards and a small needle with a sensor device. He came back on the bus. Fisk- "Captain Allen Chubbs, extend your left hand palm up, pointer finger extended." He glanced around the bus and extended his hand. Fisk poked him with the needle at a breakneck speed Allen was barely aware of. The device turned a bright green. "Identity confirmed as Allen Chubbs. Information stored. You are free to enter Hanger F... Next, Van Ambrose. Step up here." The security ritual passed without incident. Nathan stepped off last, Mr. Fisk disappearing into his building. Adam- "So now what?" A huge hanger door suddenly rumbled to life. Everyone turned in the direction, all rather startled by the loud and unexpected noise. The gunmen went back into their building seemingly to have dubbed us 'safe'. Allen- "I guess we go that way..." Allen started walking toward the opening, everyone else following behind. It was dark inside, minimal tripod lighting lit a path into the gloom. The air whispered around everyones head showing the place was well ventilated. It smelled of brand new plastic, fresh from the production line. The air was obviously heavily filtered. The lit pathway ended in a small circle of illuminated metal floor. "So..." He winked at Adam, trying to bridge the gap he had previously opened. "Now what?" Nicholas- "Now, Mr. Chubbs, The Red Party will introduce you to your new ship." His voice echoed though the hanger, but not as if it was empty. "The RPS (Red Party Spacecraft) Dominion." The entire hanger lit up with bluish-white florescent light. Thousands of tubes sat on the ceiling, dazzling the seven crew members. Allen- "Jesus ******* Christ! What the hell is your problem Wyl-" He stopped halfway through the ******** last name. His breath caught in his throat. "Oh my God..." Nicholas- "I take it you like the ship Mr. Chubbs." Allen- "It's... Amazing." The ship was almost 350 meters long. The hull was obviously composed of the new tetra-silicon alloy, extremely light, extremely white, and unbelievably strong. It was an extremely experimental material. There was no indication they were even making it on such a large scale. The ship sat on seven extremely large hover-trailers. The engines were six new model Plasma Injector Burst Pods. They were built into the ships hull. When in space, they used short bursts of superheated plasma to propel the ship. Extremely efficient and economical. The bridge was in the front of the battle-ax shaped ship. Reverse and maneuvering stood out all over the ship. Nicholas- "You haven't seen the best part yet, Mr. Chubbs." He spoke a few whispered words into a walkie talkie. "Your new ship had been outfitted with a prototype defense system. May I present to you," a deep magenta light crackled across the hull of the ship, "the Electrical Force Shield protection grid." Dispite his dislike for the Red Party's mascot, a smile broke across Allen's face. Force Shield technology had been in the works for nearly fifty years. And he was going to be the first to try it out. Allen- "My God..." Nicholas motioned as he began walking to the ship. Nicholas- "Right this way Captain, I've arranged a tour of your new ship."
Raiha
Only slightly nonplussed at everyone elses reaction, Lilia Sethen looked up, straining her neck slightly. She had seen the blueprints before, so it wasn't all that great. That and the scent of plastic and metal was making her slightly nauseous. .....of course the blood test didn't help. Needles were not her friend. "It's big." "Looks hard." "........dear god that was wrong." The three ladies exchanged an amused glance that quickly dissapaited as the "tour guide" beckoned them to board the ship. Lilia followed obediently, her linen pants flaring out gracefully with her walk. This wasn't that fascinating to her, besides....her only responsibility was to breif people and generally keep them informed. So for her....a basic tutorial of microhpones, speakers, and intercoms would work. But naturally, the men wouold insist that all of the above would be learned as they dragged her through an exhaustive tour. ".......men."
Baron Samedi
Nathan smirked to hear the pretty one mutter something about men. Why couldn't women just be appreciative of stuff? Why always complain? Nathan was awestruck. Of course, he had nothing to compare it with, but this ship was...beautiful. Gorgeous. Dazzling. A marvel. A sight to behold. It was also going to be his home for a long while. Nathan supposed he could have been more impressed though. Nine years in a jail cell desensitises one to the world, and particularly what was going on in it. But the admiring gasps of several other members of the crew indicated that this was a primo piece of equipment. Trying to sneak a look at Lilia's butt [so tight in those pants!], Nathan followed the crew up a shallowly sloping ramp, into the bowels of the ship.
Corey
The door to the ship hissed shut with mechanical speed. Nicholas- "Our first stop will be A-Block, crew quarters." Intercoms lined the ceiling of the halls at fifteen foot intervals. Call boxes were bolted to the walls outside of every door. Lighting shone through indirect lighting fixtures in the corners of the ceiling. Nicholas opened a door and led the group through. "This is one of ten crew quarters across this block. They're each about 15 feet by 20 feet, have one double bed, one bathroom facility, a closet equipped with both leisure wear and proper uniforms." He pulled out a white t-shirt and a pair of black shorts, an example of leisure wear. Van walked over and plopped down on the bed. Van- "Hmm. Comfy." He winked at Allen and stood back up. Trini walked into the bathroom. The florescent lights flicked on. Trini- "Not bad... My bathroom back home wasn't this nice." She walked back out shutting off the lights and closing the door. Nicholas cleared his throat from the hall. Nicholas- "Let's move on, shall we." Everyone fell back into position behind him. "This ship has three levels. Level one is the top level. It holds the bridge, the armory, the medical bay, and the main communications room. Level two has the engine room, the war room, and the main computer room. Level three is where we are, it includes the crew quarters, meeting room, mess hall, exercise room, game room, and the warehouse where all of the repair equipment and replacement materials are." A door hissed open and Nicholas gestured inside without stepping in himself. "This is the game room and exercise room. There are several physical activities, ping pong, cyber golf, virtual tennis, etc. There are also barbells, treadmills, rowing devices, resistance therapy, and an anti-gravity room." He shut the door and walked on. Allen- "What's the difference between cyber and virtual?" Van- "Two different words. I think they mean basically the same thing." Another door hissed open. Nicholas- "This is the mess hall. There is a compliment of MREs (meals ready to eat) plus a nice supply of fresh meat and vegetables you can make dishes with. That's located in the freezer." He pointed to the far side of the room. Trini- "Ooo, a walk-in freezer." Nicholas- "Yes. There's also a six burner range, a megawave, and a spacious icebox. Let's continue." The door closed and they went on walking. "This door leads to the meeting room, nothing really special. A plasma board for writing, a coffee maker, etc. Last thing on this level is the warehouse." He opened this door manually, sliding one bolt open and twisting a circular latch. "The warehouse has four sections. Section one is extra food. Just MREs and protein drinks. Section two is ship repair devices. Caulk guns and extra tetra-silicon slabs. Plus nail-guns and several different adhesives. Section three is electrical equipment. Extra circutbreakers, fuses, wiring, etc. Section four is extra weaponry, both handheld and external." He sealed the door back up and opened another hatch that led to stairs. "There are two elevators that go to each floor, and two sets of stairs on either end of the ship. The stairs run to each of the three floors." Allen- "What's this war room?" The stairs were made of a steel composite material with a coating of anti-slip material. Rod railing ran on the sides of the stairs. The air wisped around their faces, in and out of the vents. Nicholas- "The war room is a tactical planning room. It's hardwired to every sensor the ship has on it. Holographic displays show what the sensors pick up. It'll also give you a readout of every aspect of the ships condition. Anything from engine temps, to CO2 levels in the captains closet." Yet another door hissed open. "This is it." The room was pretty large with several computer displays and holographic panels. Helena uttered a small gasp. Helena- "Oh my..." She pushed past Allen and Nicholas and entered the room quickly, examining every panel and display. "There's a Quantum Unit... The only other place I've ever seen a working Quantum Unit is in the magazines..." Her eyes were alight with pleasure. Allen smiled at Nicholas. Allen- "I think you've made a friend. C'mon, Helena. You can check it out when we're on the clock." Nicholas began moving down the hall. Allen held his arm out for Helena to follow, the others had already begun walking. She walked by with a sullen look on her face. "I know. Plenty of time for fun later m'lady." Nicholas raised his voice slightly, wanting to let the captain, now at the end of the pack, hear. Nicholas- "The main computer is through this door. Normally the circuitry just through out the ship would be enough, but we have a few upgrades on the Dominion. There's advanced voice recognition software. Instead of using normal servers and such to compute your requests, it uses a fusion of technology and biological compounds. We call it the Android Unit. It's almost three hundred times more efficient and powerful than any normal computer on the market right now. And several times smaller than any super computer the government has." He continued past the door, heading for a set of double doors larger than any other previously viewed. Allen- "Wait." Everyone stopped. Nicholas turned around, quickly a smile to his face. Not quick enough to hide it completely, though. "What kind of biological components are in use?" His smile faltered. Van- "Allen?" Allen- "Hear me out, Van... What are we talking about here? A few lab-grown containers of neurons? What?" Nicholas remained motionless. "Fine, let's see." Allen turned around and walked back to the door. Nicholas- "Wait! You can't do that!" He began pushing through Allen's crew. Allen- "Are you telling me what I can and can't do on my own ship? Nathan, if you would." Nathan grabbed the man by the shoulders, stopping him in his tracks. Nicholas- "No!" Allen- "Van, his security card please." Van dug in the mans pocket and tossed the card to Allen. He passed it in front of the sensor. The doors opened. Allen walked in and flipped on a light switch. "Jesus... Have you people lost your..." He stopped short of making the terrible pun. There were three containers with human brains suspended in liquid. Wires and cords went in and out of every crevase. Small bursts of electricity issued from the wiring every now and again. Allen walked back out of the computer room. "Do you remember what was in the prior mission report, Wyler? We were dealing with creatures from HELL! They make a very good show of toying with ones mind! What were you thinking when you decided to power a ship with three minds?!" Nicholas- "They were grown in labs. The sections of the brain that give a person their individuality, thoughts, free will, everything that makes them a human being were altered on the genetic level to be useless. Do not underestimate us Captain Chubbs! Despite your opinions, we are not idiots!" Allen pressed the close button and walked away as the door hissed close. Allen- "You had better be right, Wyler. For your own sake as well as ours." Nathan released Nicholas. He snatched his card back. "We'll continue the tour after lunch. Please guide us to the mess hall, Mr. Wyler."
Baron Samedi
Nathan followed the group numbly from the weird. The acrid taste of bile hung in his throat, just challenging him to vomit. He hadn't actually entered the room, but looking over Nicholas' shoulder had been enough. It was even kind of funny. Three odd looking, misshapen blobs, sitting in their own private tanks. Wires snaked all over the tanks and the brains themselves. But they were brains, Oh my God, they were brains. And they weren't even real brains...they were grown. I mean, they grew ******* brains to control the ship. At least in prison you knew what was what. After seeing them...well, the mess hall was the last place he wanted to be. Nathan had done some pretty appalling stuff in his time, but the sterility of the... actions. I mean, ******* brains. Geez. Something about this mission really stank, and it wasn't just Nicholas. There was something going on deeper here. The whole mission had the feeling of an experiment...and combined with that raving lunatic who was to be there only company and cargo for the trip, things were definitely looking down. Nathan's thoughts then turned towards Nicholas. A more pompous, arrogant man he'd never seen. As if feeling the glower directed at the base of his spine, Nicholas turned around "Everything alright Nathan?" "Just ******* A". Nicholas smirked, and turned back around, hurrying to the front of the group again.
Raiha
The tour was over for now, and she had never been more thankful. They would get to know the ship fast enough, why wander around it listening to the banter and ranting and roaring and whatnot? It was stupid, but regulation. Lilia sat in the mess hall, drinking her tea calmly, never turning a hair. She had read reports of the brains powering the ship. It explained everything the blueprints hadn't. ...and bio packs in general just made a lot more sense. How else could the ship handle itself? She ran the liquid over her tongue. While the other ship members had looked positively green, she had taken the visual like a spartan. Typical of her. Being a Communications Specialist wasn't exactly core training, but she knew what was what. And she knew that a weak stomach could be killer on a space ship. Especially one heading out to a mission from hell. Literally. Nathan sat down across from her, holding a cup of something, looking slightly pale around the gills. ...Green was more like it. Lilia Sethen looked up, smiling pleasantly. "May I help you?" "Eh, I'm fine." "You look ill. Stomach not working for you?" "Nah, I'll get over it." "Eat your Wheaties. Take those vitamins." She grinned and polished off the rest of her tea, setting down the small Sevres cup onto the saucer. "God knows you'll be needing it by the end of this horror show."
Gavin
It's great that this is back up, I need a good RPG to get me back in shape for the Arena. Just a slight question KoTR: What's happened to my sick bay ?, by all accounts we'll need a very advanced one this time. If you don't mind I'll make a crack at describing it, with Sweetreyes help of course ;) . -------------- Van sat beside Trini and Allen at the central table of the Mess hall, they had shared a lot of time together and he knew that Allen respected their opinions on the mission. It might have even gone as far that for anyone else except Sam he'd have turned the mission down if they asked him to. Van could tell from the expression of Allen's face that he was still a little disgusted by what he'd seen, some "computer core" he thought, while some of the new crew members had nearly gotten sick this was just another day at work for Trini and Van. He sipped carefully at his tea while the others drank back their own choice beverages though his mind still focused on those "engineered" brains that would regulate the ship, he wondered what kind of game Wyler was playing to have not told them about something this significant. Van took another mouthful of his tea before pushing the thought out of his head, he guessed that if anything went wrong with the brains he'd probably have to figure out what it was. He looked over at Nathan on his left, the guy was nearly green but Van knew he'd get over it, as he was looking at Nathan Van remembered that he would need regular doses of the chemical "Dileksthin" to keep his killer tendencies suppressed enough for this mission. Although he'd probably need them for what they'd encounter when they reached their destination. Van thought he'd have a look at the chemical to see if he could make some improvements for Nathan, he knew that any generalised Medicine could always be improved upon for a specific case since it had to be made to deal a wide variety of reactions. He'd do some tests on Nathan later to determine the exact alterations he'd need to make to the drug. Trini was eying Van in particular manner that he knew all too well by now, Trini was the only female survivor and she'd been his assistant on the original mission, he had a lot of respect for her and she knew it. He finished off the last mouthful of Tea before giving Trini the same eye, Allen had noticed this and merely smiled before asking the most obvious question at his disposal. Allen: So where are you two headed after all this eying about at one another ? Van and Trini: The Medical Bay, where else ? Van smiled as he offered his arm to Trini so that they could personally inspect the Sickbay for themselves, if it was half as impressive as the rest of the ship Van might be able to rest a little bit easier.
