Squall
(this starts in the feudal Era) The green earth, lush with vegitation and water. There were no oceans, only lakes and thousands of winding rivers, that villagers used for transportation. Life was good. That's how I look at it now, at least. I used to think it was a horrid place, with the Military academies springing up all over. But, I guess that's how an assassin is supposed to think, so they don't become attatched to what they kill. The city of Gnarwood bustled with life, all in supposed peace. Suddenly, a kid burst out of the alleyway, chased by two guards. Everyone looked, but nobody did anything. This was normal, the kid was undoubtably resisting training at the military academy, and anyone who helped hi would be killed as well. It wasn't long, until they caught him, kicking and screaming. The guards tossed him in a boat that sat in the river that flew through the town. They kicked off, and the kid was sent far away from what he had known, into a military academy... -------------------- A man in a gray rain coat and hat to hide his head stood, staring out at the boat as it took off. "Someday, that won't happen." He said quietly, turning around. Someday, I thought I could put an end to that. Outlaw things like that, so everyone could forget war, and live in peace...I guess it wasn't ment to be.
Cyriel
"Sanosuke! Faster! Stop slowing down - don't be weak! Show yourself as a worthy opponent! Faster!" Sanosuke's sweat ran down his face. It had already soaked through most of his clothes. Faster? Is he serious, or is just trying to fool me? he wondered, quickly parrying with his blade. His master trainer, Anrak, was tricky. Last time he had tired Sanosuke and won the scrimmage, and now Sanosuke was weary of falling to the same trick a second time. But Anrak's blows came swifter and lightning fast, showing that he too was starting to use his reserves of energy. All right then, Sanosuke thought, gritting his teeth. He changed his stances, becoming lighter on his feet and in his movements, more quick, more agile. The sun beat down, and the dust rose in clouds. Half an hour later, and they were still dueling at their quickened, staccato pace. Sanosuke sank inside; Anrak had been goading him again after all, and had fooled him once more. His muscles burned, and he had to keep blinking his eyes to clear the sweat. He was just about to drop one of his weapons... "Weapons-master Anrak!" A voice called out over the training field, and they both immediately stopped and bowed. A woman in fine silks came out, stopping on the edge of the field. It was Sanosuke's aunt, a sweet young woman of 20, and fair hair. She smiled wryly, "How is it that the Weapons-master is trying to work my nephew to death in this blazing sun? He didn't even come to greet his aunt, who is visitng only for a short while." Anrak bowed again lower, and Sanosuke laughed before handing his weapons to the stewards. "Aunt, he's not killing me. Well, actually, perhaps he is. You saved me. I'm grateful, Aunt. And I apologize for my...less than appealing appearance." She smiled, and then declined his dirty arm, "Well, that's fine, but you should go wash up before you greet me properly. Get going now." She laughed before the bucket of water was dumped over his head.
Shwa
Ryu wandered the town that he enterd, eveything there seemed to be so nice and quiet for him..and he didn't knotice a soldier in sight. Ryu walked the streets in his red hooded trench-coat, no one seemed to look at him with a weird expression or anything like that. He walked into a resturant to get something to eat, once he sat at the bar the bartender greeted him. "Well hello there young fello, how can I help you" he asked as he put his hands on the counter. "Just give me something spicy old man" Ruy snapped at him. Once he got his drink he noticed some military people at the table near the door, they were looking for someone and showed everyone a peice of paper with a face on it. "Damn, they followed me" Ryu said under his breath, he left the counter really quickly to the back door. Once he got there he was stopped by two guards. "Hold it, you are in violation of the Military rules, ou are to complete your stay until you may leave. Not leave when you feel like it" said one of the guards. Ryu took his wand out and pointed at the guards. "If you think i'm going back there you have another thing coming" He replied as he looked at the two guards. Now everyone in the area was looking at them.
Lilt
Signa slowly walked by the welcome sign to the entrance of the town of Gnarwood. She took in everything. The people, the smell of the ocean air and the crisp green grass, and especially the ocean itself. Signa loved the ocean. It was the one thing in the world that they did not have in her village. She would love to play in it for hours if she could, but she had other things to worry about right now. The elders had sent her to this village for a purpose, not to swim. She sighed, now if it had only been a real purpose this time. She knew that they had only sent her away because she was causing trouble with the children of the village again. She didn't start the trouble, she didn't even know the reason why it would start at all. All she knew was that they didn't like her for some reason. They said she was "different". Signa asked the elders to explain this to her many times before, but they just said it wasn't important. Suddenly, Signa's thoughts were interrupted by the beginning of a fight. Two guards stood ready to attack a cloaked man. While she was watching the fight, nearby, a scrawny man noticed the glint of gold on her white mask. He ran over and grabbed it off of her face. Signa covered her face in her hands and started to scream like a dying animal. That mask was everything to her! An outsider to her village could not understand its importance, or her need to keep her face concealed. Distracted, the two guards looked over at the wailing half-elf...
