RPCrazy
Ok, so I suppose in some way this could be seen as a pathetic attempt to announce I'm turning 19 on Sat the 21st ( ~_^ )...but in all seriousness, please read on. I'm the youngest of 4 kids. All of which are significantly older than I am. All of which are in or on their way to their thirties, much less 19. So I ask my siblings: "What was your 19th birthday like?" And my siblings replied "Well...you know? I don't really remember." Ok, I can understand that. "What was it like being 19?" Again...a vague haze seems to have settled on that year of their life. I myself am finding I'm constantly forgetting that my birthday is coming up. I've actually had to write it on my calendar "This is your birthday" because I will look at the day...and feel the sense I am forgetting something terribly important. What of the rest of you? I realize probably most of us haven't even begun to look towards our 19th birthday quite yet, but there are a few of you who have made it to this year and gone past it. What do you remember from it? What do you remember of other friends or family who have been 19? I am the only one who sees it as The Forgotten Year?
Dan L
Far from it- my 19th year had to be the most interesting year of my life. For one thing, it was the year where I set off on this wacky adventure after becoming a Christian, and all the craziness that came from that. I was a lot less mature than than I've become now though- and it was only 1-2 years ago
Arcadia
I'll let you know when it happens in a few months. Though I can sort of see what you mean - I'm not really looking forward to it all, and I doubt I'll actually do anything for it. It's just another candle on the cake for me. Although I don't even think I'm going to get a cake this year. I'd rather have pie. But let's be optimistic, shall we? For my 19th birthday, I think I'll do something 19 times. Maybe I'll purloin something small from 19 people - like a pen, or a sticker, or something silly like that. And then at the end of the day I can rejoice over all my new eclectic acquisitions. Sort of like my birthday gift to me. That's one idea, anyway. Although I'm always open to suggestions. :p
NorykoAngelcry
I think most people will want to say that 19 is one of the 'lesser' birthdays. . I mean, at 16 you get to drive, at 18 you get to buy cigars/cigarettes (if you smoke). . but it still gives you a little freedom, though at the same time 18 also means you are going to get arrested for anything bad that you do (don't ask), and at 21 you can buy alcohol (if you drink). Many people like to say that 17, 19-20, and 22+ birthdays aren't really anything special. . Well, I give signifigance to anyone's birthday! I can't really remember too much what I did when I turned 19, but at least I remember that I partied quite a bit, and that I probably drank way too much (*gasp* yes, I said I drank. . I started drinking early in my teenage years. . so. . sorry). If you don't drink, there is still lots that you can do. It just depends really. . some people don't put any real signifigance on birtdays at all. . and yet, some give props for EVERY birthday. . Just however you and your friends/family celebrate birthdays *shrug*
future girl
I understand that whole having siblings that are several years older than you thing, it's very hard to find a lot to relate to with them. Never the less, I turned 18 this year and I really can't say anything special happened. We bought a small cake and I didn't even eat any lol. We really stopped celebrating my birthday when I was like eight or something similar. It's a drag, but I've gotten used to it. Birthdays aren't a big deal here in my family and I imagine my 19th will be pretty similar to my 18th except that I may be living alone at that time. Maybe I'll do something like Arcadia, just to commerate being on my own, but who knows.
pbfrontmanvdp
I loved my 19th birthday. I got a new car, (that i bought myself but still) joined a fraternity, and completed my first year of college with a 3.45 GPA so i thought it was great. As for forgetting my birthday i hope that will never happen to me. It almost happen to me once but i remembered about a week before so i had enough time to plan out what i wanted to do that day. The reason i almost forgot was because i didnt even know what month we were on or the exact day (# i mean i still knew it was like either Monday-Sunday). Ahhh how the days of the year just aren't important when your in college. Except for like spring break and summer vacation  .
Shinmaru
19th birthday, eh? I'll probably end up doing what I usually do and treat it like any other birthday. Which is to say, I'll end up treating it like any other day, except I'll be technically a year older than I was the day before. Oh, and presents. Can't forget those. The only thing that really makes my 19th birthday of any note is that my birthday falls on November 19th. I'm turning 19 on the 19th - doesn't that make you want to laugh?
That's one idea, anyway. Although I'm always open to suggestions. :p
I'm always available to make the birthday a bit better *wink wink nudge nudge*
Ani_Freak
Jeez, well, 5 years ago, if I recall correctly, i was at a restaurant with like5 other friends, and guess what, we all had the same birthday. I'm one of 5 other friends that have the same birthday, so i guess we pretty much did what we couldn't do, at the time. Nah, nothing much, just ate, had some beers(wich the legal age is 18 here in Puerto Rico, yay) and went to the beach and we were there talking for hours. I bought my car, wich is good too, but I guess that having a good time with friends and family is the best it could get. Oh, I also played all day videogames, had the day off at work, and a girl gave me a kiss. Yes, pretty much a good day.
Ryan
I wonder what I will be like whenever I turn 19. Hmm? Well that happens to be 5 years away. I hope I am more mature than I am right now. But there are still good things about being 19. Maybe that is the year you get to move out. Maybe you get a new car, like someone posted above. I can see where you are coming from, but don't get sad. Get glad! It is a birthday! You get presents...Hehehehehe!
Harry
Mine wasn't a huge event at all actually. I think I watched Law & Order or something. It's wedged in the middle of two big events, first becoming an adult, then being able to drink.
RPCrazy
Well, I must admit that seeing the...mellow outlook of others on this topic, with the occasional light words, is helping to raise my spirits. I suppose it's a fear of growing older. For the past 3 years I've seen my birthday as getting another year closer to my death. Not exactly the outlook one wants on the world. >_< Seems that I'll be spending the middle part of the afternoon with my friend Joanna. And undoubtedly the night will be spent playing video games with PoisonTongue. ^_^ Let's see what my family has planned out for me, shall we? Lol.
