Budday
Dance Dance Revolution is the onyl reason why id go arcading... Yet even though ive played DDR for maybe a year and a half...i think its more but im not sure.. I still get intimmidated by those really fast people. Although i enjoy the ever occasional fast song too (sakura, bag, afronova) but i prefer my pop dancing songs or anything i can jsut have fun with. Yet i always try to make my thrid / last song a challgening one. OtakuSennen - dont worry about it. A lot of DDr people are usually nice and stuff so they dont make fun of other people who try. Atleast at all the arcades ive been too. But one thing though, once you get use to playing DDr you usaully want to play with people who are better then you becuase then you can try harder songs and get use to them while they pass you through ^-^ I feel though, that the home verison DDR is no where near as much fun as the arcade verison. You get more energy and excitment and embrassesment from all the people watchign you, that is the stuff i find more fun. And the dance pad in the arcade is more stable ^_- So yea Id have to say though Dance Dance Revolution is one of my favorite games. Songs I Like = Sakura(Standard), Bag(Standard), Butterfly(Trick), Boom Boom Doller(Trick), Dynamite Rave(Standard/Trick), End of the Century(Standard), and Afronova (Standard/Trick), Kick the Can (Standard/trick) Songs that i like to listen to but only sometimes play = All of the above, Bumble Bee, So many Men, Boys, Paranoia, Dead End, Blow my Whistle, La senorita, El tropical (or something along those lines),
Ashura
I've played it a little at the arcade we've got, but I've been spending my money on Initial D Arcade Stage 1 & 2 for the most part (plus it was pretty embarrassing how bad I was). But after playing a freeware fanmade version called 'Delight Delight Reduplication' on PC, my interest has been respawned and I might have a go on friday!
Yeah, my firends and I are super...SUPER[/I'] ddr freaks. We download songs ont mp3 cd's so we can listen to like 200 songs, we got japanese DDR Extreme and ddr max2 for better songs, and we even made our own home pads (metal). Like i said...we're freaks and love it :D
Wow! How did you make your own pads? How much did it end up costing you?
Well, at least with Karaoke Revolution for the PlayStation 2, people can use their PS2 Online Accounts to download new songs. Given, they are rather poor American songs for the most part, but the same method is used in Xbox's DDR Ultra Mix, if I have my stories straight.
DDR's on XBox? Sounds pretty good to me! Has it been released outside of Japan? I have no idea because I live in Australia and I haven't seen it around yet.
ChibiHorsewoman
My only friend who has never been pregnant (AKA, Jess) has DDr for her Xbox. We were goingto play it after the water ski game I was sucking at but she couldn't find the CD for it so we did kareoke instead. The first time I played DDR was the first nigt of my second visit to Las Vegas last year. I lost my shoes and totally bombed the game. I was wearing my sandles with a bit of a heeel and twisted my ankle :bawl: I had to Hobble over to the Mirage from Treasure Island to meet my mom in the casino. I borrowed my cousn's sneakers the next time, but it didn't improve my coordination by much. While my feet stayed in the footwear and I didn't twist anything-I still bounced all over. Let's face it, some people just aren't made to dance.
Japan
I only played DDR like four times. Last time I played, I was at the mall yesterday with a friend. We played for like an hour. The version that we used was DDR 5th Mix, or something like that. Since he never played before, and I'm still a beginner, we kept on doing the song, "Pi Kara" by Captain Jack. We played that for like an hour. We successfully beak the song "1,2,3...." We almost beat the long version of "Oops, I did it again." DDR is a lot of fun, plus, it is addicting. Amity
Ahh, Dance Dance Revolution, how kind it's been to me. I love it! Great workout for me. I love playing it. I'm about to get UltraMix for my X-Box with a metal pad so it makes no noise. It's really cool. It's a great workout, and the songs are easy to dance to. There are difficulties with songs like Paranoia Mixes...especially on difficult mode, duh. But yes, a fun game, I give it a 10/
Shwa
OMg, oops I did it again is like the Devil song here in Maryland, it takes up like two turns and you only have one song left to play for the 5th mix. Waste of a song if you ask me! Quote: Originally Posted by Mage15 Yeah, my firends and I are super...SUPER ddr freaks. Well my friend and his Dad made the pad which took like two weeks with all the wirering and all. Plus once they were finished some of hte arrows didn't work, but now it works just fine! Guest Closer
DDR (or Dancing Stage) is the coolest game in years, I've only played DS: Euromix and for some reason I sold it :( . SoapyShoes
Holy crap! Did anyone answer the thead starter's question? One person mentions DDR and you guys go crazy about your own experiences. Anyway, Drop the Bomb by Scotty D is on the original "Dance Dance Revolution" and "DDR: Konamix" for PS1. The quality is really bad for these games, such that the arrows don't really come up that smoothly, but these are the games that got me hooked in the first place. I hope this helps. eh luu
ah ddr, one of my favourite dance games, yes i admit i was addicted to its steps. its a great game, and my friends got me into it months ago, and i've been ddring since. its fun getting your own style into it so you dont look so bland, when i was in florida there were guys that came in with towels and water bottles to show off right? so i was standing there and watched.. just checked them out and i sort of gave them a look like "eh.. you're..okay" because i have indeed seen much better, so after they were done.. me 'n my friend jeff, who i was teaching how to play, decided to play. then they came over and watched me, i didnt get too good of a look they gave me, because one of the guys i was with was trying to help jeff and it was throwing me off too..and i was lookeing so i was like "ahhh O_O" but yes it is a fun game, but i hardly ever get the chance to enjoy it. I only ended up getting Kakumei and Take Me Away. Crap. :( Now I can finally do Heavy Mode MaxxUnlimited on controller! Not on the mat, no, never on the mat. I think I'd pass out before I could ge through the first 15 seconds of the song. To tell the truth, I'm pretty good at the mat, but not the best. Dark*Driretlan
I love DDR as well. (I think that almost everyone has said that lol.) but I only have played it like twice ever. My parents think that it is a waste of money to buy a metal pad for the house (which is the only type that i would use, i have played other games that have those other pads and they slip far to much and they bug me). And the closest place that has DDR is like 45 mins away in the mall, so we don't go often. But my friend and I are in love with it. The first times that i played i totally smoked her (i find that funny because she is a dancer). But the game rocks, and i have been trying to find some places to get the ddr music, but my search never turns anything good up. Do you guys know where i can find some songs? LIke the ones that are on the arcade version, or some that you like. ^_^
Syk3
Phew, I'm kind of late into this thread. I had looked for a DDR thread before, but didn't really do a long search for it, and just now saw it on the front page. :D Quoting:
Is Drop the Bomb by Scotty D only for the arcade version of Dance Dance Revoloution? My brother told me it might be, but i'm not sure.
I think SoapyShoes basically answered your original question, but you can also find DROP THE BOMB -System S.F. Mix- on Max. That's only going by the USA games, however.
There's just something about it that strikes me as being not very fun at all, heh. For me, it's probably the lack of good music (to me, anyway - that's pretty relative) and the fact that I don't really enjoy dancing lol. But, even if I did, I don't think I would really enjoy DDR. Just not my kind of game.
:/ You should probably give it more of a chance. The game can be a lot of fun depending on the mindset you go into it with. Of course, no one is going to be an expert their first time, or even good, and you have to work up to that. When you get to Heavy mode and start beating more and more difficult songs, it's just so satisfying. ^_^ It's true that some of the music could be better, but this is mainly a pop/techno type selection, which is best for the dancing that it's aiming at. Trust me, if you put your favorite rock songs on there, or something, it would be near-impossible with all of the fast beats. o_o As for the dancing aspect, you should know by now that it's not even truely dancing. :p I don't know how to dance, myself, but the point of the game isn't to teach you such anyway. It's a video game, and if anything, it helps with exercise and keeping a beat, which you could relate to actual dancing, but if you tried to dance like that in a club or something you would be thrown out in a second. XD
And I hate it when guys look at girls chests when they do the jumps!
Speaking of girls (and not their chests), I've generally heard people talk about DDR as a girl's game, but in my own experience the majority of those who are playing at the arcade are guys. I have maybe only seen one or two girls that have played on Heavy mode, myself. As for overall DDR popularity, my friend was telling me about these pimped-out guys with doo-rags, jerseys, and timberlands just breaking it out at the arcades. O.o; I'd love to see that, lol.
Yeah I'm a ddr nerd for sure! At my school we even have a ddr club, where we get togather and play. We're suppose to go and compete against other people from other schools, but nothing has really happened yet.
My friend and I were just talking about starting a DDR club today, lol. It would be really cool, but I'm not sure if it would be a realistic idea, since we're both going to head our school's anime club, and bringing pads in could be a pain.
I play trick but I'm gettting to that awkward stage, where I'm too good for trick, but not good enough for manic. yeah if you can't tell i play the best version..konamix... yeah ddr max and the other verison are good... but I stick to the classic.
I've been in that stage before, both with moving up to Standard, and to Heavy. I tend to like to become really good at one before I even consider moving up. As for which games I prefer, I'd have to say Max and Max2, since Konamix seems kind of outdated to me and the background voices like "Everybody's waiting for you!" are incredibly corny. XD
does anyone else after playing like a wayy long session of this, when you close your eyes you can see arrows scrolling up and down in your mind?
XD I think this is actually a very common occurance, and is why they encourage home players to turn on a lot of lights so the arrows arn't burned into your mind as the only source of light. :p But anyway, the first time that it happened to me, I turned to my friend during Java class, and I was like, "Hey, when you close your eyes, do you ever--" "See the arrows? :p All the time, hahaha."
here in Maryland
In Maryland, eh? You seem like a dedicated DDR fan to me; where do you usually go arcading?
Now I can finally do Heavy Mode MaxxUnlimited on controller! Not on the mat, no, never on the mat. XD I don't really think it's worth it to use the controller, personally. It's called Dance Dance for a reason, and you can't hit two beats on the controller. ;)
But the game rocks, and i have been trying to find some places to get the ddr music, but my search never turns anything good up. Do you guys know where i can find some songs? LIke the ones that are on the arcade version, or some that you like. ^_^
I believe that OtakuSennen bought the Max2 soundtrack recently; you can ask him if you like, or maybe I'll get him to come back to the thread. My Experience: I had been hearing about DDR for a long time before I finally decided to try it out for myself. This was only last Winter, so Max2 was already out, and there were already many, many dedicated players, including everyone in my close group of friends. Not only did they play it on a regular basis, but they all owned it and were on Heavy mode before I finally decided to try it out. So when I started playing, I was around some decent players, but it still took be a while to get the hang of it. About a month after I played for the first time, my one friend, Joe, invited a lot of people over to his house, and when they broke out the DDR, they let me go through the practice mode, which helped a lot. The next day, I bought DDR for myself. When I went to Walmart, they only had two combo packages with Max2 and a soft Konami pad left, so I got one and headed home. The problem was, I soon found out, the pad worked great and everything but the disc just kept giving the disc read error. By the time I returned it and got the last combo package, I realized that my PS2 was almost dead. -_- When my brother and I finally managed to get the money to buy a new PS2, I could finally begin my DDR training! On a side note, I never saw the Max2 and pad combo in Walmart ever again. o_O That was about 6 months ago, and I have since gone from Beginner to Heavy Mode with the help of lots of practice, and having friends that will play Versus with me a lot. Almost 2 months ago, I added Max and a RedOctane Ignition 2 pad to my collection, but the Ignition pad stopped working and I sent it back to be replaced under the 60 day warranty. I'm still awaiting the new pad, but in the meantime, my friend agreed to buy it from me so that I would have enough money to buy a RedOctane metal pad (see the third part of my post). Both should arrive any day now. :) As you can see, the main focus of my growing DDR obsession has been with the home version, but I'm slowly branching out to the arcade in front of people and with a very different pad. The first time that I played in the arcade was at Six Flags America over a month ago, and I made a total fool out of myself at a time when I was transitioning from Standard to Heavy. Then a couple weeks ago I played in a mall that's near my old neighborhood in Silver Spring, and I made a fool out of myself again, not because I wasn't confident in my skill, but because I really wasn't used to the arcade. Then about a week ago, I went down to Ocean City, and on two different nights I played on the boardwalk, and I finally got used to people watching, to the awkward pad compared to the one at home, and I was good enough to hold my own. When I went to Six Flags America to play today with a friend who's a lot better than I am, it came naturally, and I'm at a point where I just need to get better, rather than get used to it. Overall, I'm starting to prefer arcade to home, too. I was talking with one guy a couple weeks ago who was AAing almost all of his songs, and he says that in the home version, there's a larger window to hit perfects. It's still a small window, but aparently in the arcade it's smaller. *shrug* Which Pad? I've been using a non-slip Konami pad for the most part the entire time playing at home, and like I mentioned before, I plan to sell my Ignition 2 pad so that I can pay for a metal one that's already being sent. I've always dreamed of buying a metal pad, but never really had the money, but I'm beginning to rething my purchase. Tonight I was searching for reviews of different metal pads, and I found that the general consensus is that RedOctane's metal pad really pales in comparison to Cobalt Flux or making your own pad. For one, RO's costumer service has never been a problem for me, but a lot of people complain about how they don't really think of the costumer very much. The parts used to make the metal pad are also aparently of low quality, and overall it may only last 2 months, which is how long the warranty is. Cobalt Flux, as everyone seems to believe, is made with really high grade material and the warranty lasts 6 months. Their customer service is said to be reliable and the pad with last for well over a year. And, of course, when you make your own pad, you can make it however you like. This is how I see it, though: This might just be because I already ordered the metal pad and everything, but it is at least $100 cheaper than CF. I don't know if I want to spend $300 plus shipping on a metal pad, you know? And I have absolutely NO IDEA where I would start in making my pad, where I could get the materials, and how I can cut them how I like. I'm in desperate need of help here, though, which is why I came searching for this thread in the first place. I suppose if I had to.. I do have a birthday coming up, and I might be able to squeeze out another $100 if I ABSOLUTELY have to, and if RedOctane's pad is really that bad. I guess the only way to see for myself is by giving it a 2-month trial under the warranty. Oh, and one more question. Are there any sites that anyone knows of that show how you could mod or clean a RO metal pad? lol I mean, if I'm going to stick to that, I might as well know how to keep it in the best shape that I can so that it doesn't fall apart. *eagerly awaits US Extreme coming in September* I still can't believe there's no solid release date yet. >_< EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the level that I'm at right now. I can get an A on nearly every 7 foot, and pass.. I'll say, not most, but a lot of 8 feet songs, and a few 9 feet. I can get a D on Afronova on Heavy, but I'm still trying to improve on that and get better at using every other foot for the fast-beat parts. OtakuSennen
Yeah, I picked up a copy of the imported DDR MAX2 soundtrack for less than $20 off of Cartoon Passion. Considering most sites' prices for DDR OSTs (Can you believe Amazon sells them for $50?), it was one hell of a deal, heh. A couple months back I went to an electronics store in San Diego and picked up a copy of DDR MAX2 and a pad. The pad itself isn't brand-name or anything (It wasn't the official Konami pad or Red Octane), but it has a 1" thick foam insert and hasn't acted out yet. The only sign of wear-and-tear I've found so far is that the pad itself- not the foam- has stretched out a bit. Other than that, it's good as new. Not bad for someone who plays nothing but Afronova an hour at a time. Well, for a $70 foam pad, at least. When I bought the game I picked up where I had left off a month or two before when I stopped spending a ton of money at the arcade on DDR- a rather low Standard. I improved quite quickly, though, and soon enough I was getting high C's on Heavy Afronova. Not a huge accomplishment, I know, but I'm proud of it.
*eagerly awaits US Extreme coming in September* I still can't believe there's no solid release date yet. >_<
I was under the impression that it was coming out in November, but that's video game release dates for you.. From what has been seen in video demos and press releases, the music selection on US EXTREME looks like it's going to be pretty impressive- most of them seem to be the best songs from various mixes- Just like its arcade counterpart, it looks like it's going to be a best-of mix, and I can't wait.
Syk3
An actual release date for DDR Extreme USA has finally been announced! According to this site, which I found by coincidence today when looking for the price of an Extreme arcade machine, it will be released 9/23/04. For those of you who haven't really been following this game, it is supposed to include 70 new songs that you can't find in previous US releases, which I am really looking forward to. :) The big issue right now is getting licenses for as many songs as possible, which aparently are mainly American songs, but that's okay, I guess. The new game is also compatible with Sony's EyeToy and adds such mini games as "Clean the Screen", "Coconut Panic", "Hands and Feat", and "Watch Me Dance". "Clean the Screen" is pretty basic, and is a mode where you have to move your hands around to get the stuff out of the way so you can see the arrows that you dancing to. I'm not really sure what's up with "Cococnut Panic." There doesn't appear to be any arrows, so it shouldn't be any different than a regular EyeToy game. "Hand and Feat" is a mode where you dance to the arrows, and hit tiny balls that are coming up on the side of the screen with your hands. It gets your arms and legs a workout. ;) And lastly, "Watch Me Dance" is the same as regular DDR, except it shows you in the background with help from the eye toy. Could be kind of distracting, though, but which of these mini-games isn't? I don't think I'll be playing much of these extra stages, as I will be busy enough with the new songs, but it's a very interesting touch. :)
Ninjah
Woah... Dude why'd you have to make this topic. lol. I've been playing DDR since I was 7 years old and stopped for a couple of years. When I was 10 my brother just kinda forced me to do standard. Yeah my brother is like that. I've been playing standard ever since. I'm still really slow though. I just turned 13 last week. And I still play on Standard as my main. I can play some songs on Heavy. But I'm just kinda really slow at this age right now. lol. I just wanna get good at standard! And like when I'm 20 or something I'll be playing DDR, Double, Heavy, x2. lol, I could dream.. But I'm gonna make sure that happens. I use my really crappy pads. My cousin broke my Red Octane pad. T-T Oh my precious pad! She was playing and well being a... Newb and all she made it slide back and the cord kinda ripped out. T-T Oh pad oh beautiful pad! lol, well I'm trying to save up for 2 pads. Tricks you say...? Can I do tricks...? Course I can! lol. Usually for Light though. For Light I like to jump over and flip and stuff on the back bar. Hehe it's fun. I also have the famous kneedrop! On freeze arrows [on DDRMAX/2 and DDR EXTREME] I do handstands. This is uaully for light though so keep that in mind. I NEVER do my handstand at an arcade. That's a no no for me. Last of all I'd like to thank Syk3 for informing us on DDR Extreme. Cause I'm so totally going to get that! Have you guys seen people play A Renaissance on heavy/double/1.5 when I saw this one dude play. I said to myself "I'll be like that someday." Oh yes and those of you who say you suck. Just keep on practicing. You'll get better. Your just making it hard on yourself if your not trying. But if you do try, your all good. My friend got an Ignition from some store and bought a one year warrenty for 15 dollars, and aparently you can get another warrenty for each one. That's a life time warrenty right there.
Ahhhh, so you're a trick player. That's still really cool.
Oh yes and those of you who say you suck. Just keep on practicing. You'll get better. Your just making it hard on yourself if your not trying. But if you do try, your all good.
Yeah, deffinitely. Everyone that you see who is totally awesome were, at one point, sucked. They got better with dedication and practice. ^_^
Mmm... and it's not an import? My friend was talking about this EyeToy jazz, but I thought she mentioned an import mix.
Nope, deffinitely for Extreme USA.
I'm still mad that I bought MAX2 instead of the original, but I'm going to have to pick this one up... it may end up setting me back 60 bucks +, but ohwell
Well, unless you don't have a pad, the game itself should only cost $40. Oh and I'd like to retract my previous date when the game is coming out. Although the actual date is a bit fuzzy, I believe that copies will ship the 21st and be sold in stores the 22nd. Shwa
LOL, I didn't know DDR was that old!! Thats amazing, we should have birthday party for it, lol. Anyways to answer your question earlier Sky3:
In Maryland, eh? You seem like a dedicated DDR fan to me; where do you usually go arcading?
Well, I work in BoardwalkFun (arcade) in the HArford MAll in Bel Air Maryland, I live close to the mall so its not such a far walk for me to get there. Since I work there I dont get to play any free games though :( , but at least i know a lot of expert DDR players by working there. Also, yes I'm a very dedicated person to Dance Dance Revolution so much it's crazy :excited: . Anyways I wanted to know what everyone's favorite TOP 10 DDR SONGS are on DDR Extreme, its good to know so you could practice some of them and get good at them as well. ~Can't Stop Fallin' In Love (Speedy Mix) ~Burning Heat ~LAst Message ~I'm in the Mood for Dancing ~Witch Doctor ~321 Stars ~Dance Dance Revolution ~Sakura ~Last 100 sec. ~and Burning the Floor :D
Syk3
Bleh, I have no idea where that is. And even so, the closest DDR arcade to me is like 45 minutes away, so I very rarely get a chance to play. When you say favorite songs on Extreme, you mean the arcade, right? Gotta keep in mind that arcades can hold 200 songs compared to the home version 70 or so, so not all songs will be tranfered. But I'll list them anyway, in no particular order. :p Butterfly A R3 Cow Girl Tsugaru Rhythm and Police Daikunkai (even though I can't play it for crap, still a good song) Holic Afranova And Freckles is alright I guess
*GaLxY-GiRl*
Daikunkai (even though I can't play it for crap, still a good song)
Blaaah! That song makes my ears bleed and the steps are horrid. That's one song I can pass with flying colors (heavy) but I absolutely refuse. It's almost as bad as playing "We Will Rock You". *sniff* -and I love Queen! I like: ever snow AOI SHOUDOU (Blue Impulse... I was obsessed with this song. Play it on reverse!) Colors (and who likes the IIDX 9th Style version for StepMania? ^^) DROP OUT Hero (4th Mix Plus) Synchronized Love (b/c I kick it old school) 321 Stars is cute, but that's all. There's also something neat about PARANOiA survivor MAX and The legend of MAX, but "the learning curve is too steep" for me... >.>
Kanariya
Quite a workout for your thumbs, eh? XD I don't really think it's worth it to use the controller, personally. It's called Dance Dance for a reason, and you can't hit two beats on the controller. ;)
Because of constant fast typing and stuff from my fingers, I have skinnier fingers then my younger sister...>.> I know, it's just that my cheap sliding mat can just tick me off at times, and I take a break once in a while with the controller. It's fun too, and really paid off because I did Max Unlimited on controller Heavy and got a B. (Now onto Max 300 >.>) I just got DDR Max on Saturday, and I love the fact they have Midnite Blaze on it. One of the greatest songs ever on DDR...then again, I'm such a lazy butt to actually get up and go to an arcade, to tell the truth, I don't even know where one is. XD My top three favorite songs would have to be Rhythmn and Police, Kakumei, and Midnite Blaze. Drop The Bomb closeby that too, got that mp3..

Of course, that could be because I got it second, and had a chance to get bored of Max2, but songs like Rhythm and Police, Matsuri Japan, and Holic would otherwise win me over. Too bad I can't do Kakumei yet. >_< I would also like to mention that I am planning on making my own metal pad, as soon as I get my questions answered at the DDR Freak forums. If someone here wants to give those questions a shot, feel free to ask.
DiscoSnorlax
I have the demo version of Feet of Fury, does that count? It's a bummer that I can't play it with my pad, although I'm not sure if the problem is my Mad Catz Beat Pad, or my Total Control Plus 3-in-1 Super Converter... I hear the full version has better drivers though, so I'll have to see if that combo works with the full version when it arrives.
Syk3
Muhahaha.. I now finally own DDR: Extreme. My friend and I drove about 45 minutes to a GameStop, and I picked up the package with the game and pad, since my own pad is dying, and this should hold me off until I find the time to make my own. I was kind of iffy about this game in the weeks leading up to it. Of course, I was excited. How could I not be? A new DDR game was coming out! But then I started worrying about what songs they might put on, which might not be too good. Even now that I've bought the game, it's hard to say, since I haven't unlocked all the songs yet, but so far I see a lot of cheesy American songs (like Kick the Can and YMCA), and nothing special so far in my opinion, other than Tsugaru which is always awesome but is already on Max2 anyway. The interface has really changed, though. It now looks nothing like the Max games, and not only that, but it is different as well. Take a look. [Spoilers if you do not wish to see the pictures] As you can see, quite a change. But it's still basically the same dacing. Not that I'm complaining, being the DDR fan that I am. lol
