Balinese
On the recommendation of my younger brother, I bought Read or Die and watched it this weekend, and i just about hit the floor... Agent Paper is so much like me it's scary. I think that a lot of people identify with or empathize with certain anime characters, and i'd like to know who everyone identifies with. (: Personally, I identify with Agent Paper (ROD) Meryl Strife (Trigun) and Julia (Cowboy Bebop. Paper never goes anywhere without a book, her hair is always semi-messy, and she has a thing about people touching her books or her glasses, all like me. Meryl is working her tail off to keep her job, just like me  And Julia is a big believer in freedom, just like me. So do tell, and have some fun with it! Dagger
I identify pretty strongly with Yumi (from Maria-sama ga Miteru). She tends to feel needlessly awkward and embarrassed, and seems predisposed to idolize more self-assured classmates. My stomach, like hers, occasionally helps me out of sticky situations. On the other hand, she has a certain willingness to please that I lost sometime in middle school, and the pigtails give her an aura of naivete. So I suppose Yumi could be characterized as a younger, less blase version of myself. It's funny that you mentioned Yomiko, since I also have a lot in common with her. I love books, though perhaps not quite so fervently as she, and our bedrooms look frighteningly similar (dust, stacks of newspapers and all). That Agent Paper is such a cutie. ^_~ ~Dagger~
Godelsensei
Ooooh...I love topics like this! I guess the number one anime character I assosciate myself with has got to be Shikamaru. He's lazy, likes just sitting and thinking, is in a constant state of exasperation, doesn't go out of his way to show off (or do anything he doesn't want to, for that matter), kind of bitchy in that he whines alot, is in touch with what he's dumb at, and gets sick and tired of people constantly yelling and asking him the same question over and over, but never reacts. He also gets along with people, but isn't necessarily ready to trust them. Not to mention he doesn't really care what people think about him. Another thing we have in common is that we're both incredibly cynical, and quick to point out the faults in arguments or suggestions. And our mothers both constantly harangue us about being sarcastic, lazy bums...>.> <.< Heh. Another character I share a few traits with is Sakura. She's really not much use when she's with her team, and constantly beats herself up about it. Also, she's got the, "If I weren't so introverted, you would be dead right now!" thing going on in her head. I think this is the explanation for all the test results I get saying that I'm an evil, violent fiend who's only real passion is "exploding things". ^...^ Not that this is a bad thing...
sailor firestar
Well, I could think of lots of characters that I feel like I am like in some ways but lately I have been feeling a lot like Hikaru, especially during the second season of Magic Knight Rayearth. She tries so hard to be strong for everyone else's sake and ends up neglecting her own inner feelings of doubt. This of course causes a lot of problems for everyone in the long run. I'm just lucky I don't have any little Novas running around (besides my cat). Learning to love yourself is a difficult thing for most people, but it's especially hard when you feel like you've done something wrong. Another character I identify with is Melfina. She's got similar issues but is less outgoing. That's how I have been lately since I moved to a new place. :crying: I don't think I could ever be a deep or mysterious character like Hilda, or someone determined and strong like Relena Peacecraft, but I always like to aspire to the kind caring type like Sailor Moon. Ryu_Sakura
Hm... I can identify with only two people. That first person is well, I don't know if everyone consders it an anime but I do, Well, Raven from Teen Titans, she geyts piss very quick, it takes her forever to warm up to people and stuff, she also have those really cool power, I may not have those, but I have premotions. So that's really The other one is Anna from Shgaman King, I take no crap! Well, that all the people unless you add Reanef from Demon Diary, yes I know he is a guy, but I act just like him except when, I'm pissed, but I usually act like him, oh I don't want to spoil the book, the
personality I'm talking about is the fused one, good and evil. Smart yet funny and weird. *nods*
Heaven's Cloud
As much as I would like to say that I share Spike Spiegel's casual charisma or Jean Starwind's unyeilding determination, I won't because we all know it would be a lie, lol. Actually, I think my kindred anime/manga spirit would probably be Motosuwa Hideki from Chobits. In the begining of his story Hideki desperatly wants a persocom believing that it would instantly make his life easier. However, when he finds one on his front door step, his life becomes even more hectic and chaotic. This is definatly a feeling a can relate to, often times I dream about having material possessions and how those possessions would effect my life for the better. In the end, however, I always seem to spend too much time with these possesions cluttering my life to an even greater extent. Throughout the Chobits manga Hideki is portrayed as a good, loving, romantic person, yet he never seems to want to portray this image and he actually becomes embarrassed when others bring them up. This trait mirrors my own personality. Although I attempt to project a different image of myself to the masses people that know me always tell me that I am a good person, that I am a loving romantic...and yes, it always embarrasses me.
AniSmith
unlike that, i actually do feel a type of connection with Spike from bebop for a few reasons 1) careless attude and ideas 2) i have a past love *and i aint kiddn* who i once loved [of course i never see her anymoer, since a long time ago] but i know what it fells 3) being "followed" by the stars or being part of them, i always have this thing with space and fate/destiny and what will happen to me --i actually had this experience where i was almost killed and like he says that he already died, i too kinda have that, the only difference is that i'm antisocial and . . . reluctanct, totaly not Spike, to say the least but i also like people like Naota from FLCL because i too fell in love with an older woman who also broke my heart ^^' and although she never knew that i did like her, she still had an impact in my life (not as huge as Haruko had on him) but i just grew from dumb meek n00b 9th grader to 10th grade experte`) I can go on with othes, because there are so many characters that i "fee" close to, and, you know what? i TOO like threads like this ^^ tv mimiks life and life itself mimiks tv, meaning that tv and life are interchangable (but dont kill anyone, okay!!??) :)
Fyodark
Hmm... nice thread. I think the character I can identify most with is Vash The Stampede. Just in the ways he's always one for peacemaking, and just an allround positive thinker with unique ideals that promote all of the better virtues in life. Thats the way I like to look at things, just look on the bright side of everything, avoid conflict if its foolish, but if it comes along, take care of it. Vash, like myself, seems to not be serious about life at all, more for the sake of encouraging others, while he still has a very wise sense of things. I've always thought myself to be capable of extremely deep and sort of philosophic thought, but then on top of that I'm so darned eccentric that I just come off as a goof to everyone in most moods :P. Semjaza
I find most anime characters so neurotic that I can't really identify with any of them lol.
Kanariya
I have so many different personality traits (go mood swings), but the person who idientifies to me the most is Sora from .hack//sign, even though I am a girl. :p I act pretty much like Sora; he ticks people off, he makes such an *** of himself, and he has his pissy moods. I am EXACTLY like that; I'm hated by so many people.
Lady Macaiodh
I don't often relate to anime characters, but there was this one episode of Cowboy Bebop that really got to me. It was the one where Faye Valentine finally receives the video of herself as a kid, ten years after she made it. The girl on the tape is so innocent and happy, and Faye is just not. She had this look on her face, like "Who is that girl?" What really killed me is the little Faye doing the cheer yelling "Go me!" Older Faye turned out so differently than little Faye thought. But the worst part was that you could see that older Faye could not remember being that happy teenage girl. At all. And everybody is just sitting around watching the tape, sadly, realizing just how truly ****** up the whole thing is. I've often wondered how that effected Faye. I know that after I saw it, I sat in my room for about an hour or more thinking about that scene. It reminded me so much of myself, I wanted to burst out crying. I didn't though, like a bastard. I just bottled it up to be let out one future day, in a spurt of ill-timed aggression.
Dark_Kotoko
Well....*points at avatar* Why do you think I used Kotoko from Chobits as a name stake and an avatar ;) ? I also Kind of relate to Dorothy from Big O.
Junsui_sama
I myself have many personalities and can comply with many characters.... The ones (personaliies I go back and forth between the most) is similar to Sora's from Kingdom Hearts (the manga isn't yet available here in the USA) and Naruto's from Naruto....there are too many to list..... Balinese
Dagger: *sweatdrop* you too? My room looks just like Yomiko's... although minus the phone. Guest Eimin
Hiei? Maybe it's Kurama? No, no, it's Yusuke. or is it Kuwabara? Great, now you got me thinking. I guess I can identify with all of them. Even though I'm a girl but that doesn't really matter. I can be like Hiei and act like nothing and nobody matters to me even though deep inside i really do care. I also glare at people a lot...I'm also like Kurama, though I try to suppress that side of me...And I don't like it when people tell me what to do, so i specifically do the opposite, that's my Yusuke side coming out. And i also have my Kuwabara moment when i can be so dumb and say the most stupidest things. But of all of them, I let my Hiei personality show the most, with my Yusuke side taking over every now and again...
Panda
There isn't one single character that sums me up. I have traits of several different characters. I would have to say that Akane Tendo from Ranma 1/2 is one of the characters I identify with. She is a bit of a tomboy, into martial arts, not the best cook but tries hard, puts up a tough front but is really sensitive inside and has a wacky family with weird little quarks. :wigout: Another character would be Subaru in .hack/sign. I spend time online enjoying a freedom that I don't have in real life. Online it doesn't matter what you look like, how old you are, what religion, gender, or how much money you have in your pocket. All that matters is the way you conduct yourself online. That is what will be used by others to judge your character. I find myself, like Subaru, looking out for the welfare of others online. The third character would be Lisa Hayes in Robotech. I fell in love with a pilot who at first didn't even know that I was around. Went though some hard times but came out together in the end. She is very dedicated to her career and can sometimes come across as being "an old sourpuss". Each of those character and I share similar characteristics, but I can't think of just one that fits me completely. I guess I don't make a very good anime character. :(
Guest zechs
I'd have to say for me, it'd have to be Shinji Ikari. He's always avoiding confrontation and can't see things for what they are, taking the worst of a situation. Shinji has no idea what he is doing which i have to say reflects me perfectly :P. What am i doing here?
Guest ScirosDarkblade
I identify a bit with Wolfwood from Trigun and a bit with Seta from Love Hina. I'm a mix of the two, if you can imagine that. ...I'd explain myself but I don't have time. I'll post again maybe to finish up (or edit this one). No_Regrets
I would DEFINATELY say Haruno Sakura from Naruto! She is in love with someone who hates her kinda, she has a big forehead, and she has a deep and hidden personality she is afraid of showing. I AM Haruno Skaura! Queen Asuka
I always say this, but my anime counterpart is most definately Asuka Langley. She's very hot-headed, tempermental, and very passionate about what she believes in. She loves being the center of attention, can't stand to be told what to do, and always wants to be the leader in whatever scenario she finds herself in. I'd have to say that about sums me up, right there. She has this massive superiority complex where she thinks she's smarter, prettier, and better than everyone else. Well, as much as I hate to admit it, I find myself feeling that way a lot, too. Not to mention we look alike, especially when I used to have bangs. Oh well. I guess the only difference is that I have a loving family to back me up. *Shrugs*
DeathBug
Aww, someone already said Vash...but I am like Vash the stampede, as well. I don't like to take life too seriously, and have many disappointments with the ladies. ^^; As my current avatar reflects, I also feel a little like Ryu, from Shaman King. Ryu gets into a situation that's really over his head, but still does his best with it. It seems like everyone around him has their own Drama (R) going on, and he just wants to help them out. A lot of my friends have (uneccessary, IMO) Drama (R) and Teen Angst (TM) going on around them, and I'm sitting there, really not involved in the situation at all. All i know is, I want to help, and I offer my services whenever I can. Also, Ryu feels 'out of place', and is most at home on the road. I also tend to feel out of place, and am at home while in transition. The destination might leave me feeling out of place yet again, but during the journey to get there, I'm happy. And, in another twist, I really identified with Impmon, from Digimon: Tamers. He was always on the outside, looking in at other peoplee njoying themselves. Been there too many times to count. He, like me, convinces h imself that he's better off where he is. So, yeah...the outer personality of Vash, the situations of Ryu and the misanthopy of Impmon; I'm like a whacked-out anime martini.
Guest Suzaku Forever
I identify most with Tsutsui Kimihiro from Hikaru No Go. He gets pushed around a lot, and doesn't have much self confidence, but he's also very sweet and kind, and he's happiest when he's doing something he loves to do, like playing Go, even if he isn't very good at it.
AthenAltena
I feel very much the same way as Panda, but there are some characters that I really can relate to. One of them is Sango from Inuyasha, and all my friends say I act like her when I'm mad. Another is Kirika (also my avatar) even though I don't have amnesia and can't hang people by neckties or kill them with an ID card (though my school one is pretty sharp) I really understand her feelings of lonliness and isolation. Who else... Oh yeah, also San from Mononoke Hime, since both she and I are the fight-till-you-die-for-what-you-believe-in type.
Maikeru
In every 'Which character are you?' test I take, I either get Ed from CB or Kakashi from Naruto. The reason I get Ed is because sometimes I act mental and childish. The reason I get Kakashi is usually...his dirtiness. :o
Mamma Vash
I iidentify with Vash and Millie. Like Vash, I will laugh loudly, but hide many serious concerns inside. Often i do goofy things, to make someone laugh. Whatever issues concern me , do so very passionately, Like Millie, family (extended) is the core of my world, and friends are the next closest layer. I will look out for others, but to do this from afar, so no one notes me. People are complex, and I guess that is why we will always identifyt with several characters-- because they are fractions of our lives. Our lives are too complex to be reduced to a singularity.
