When I grow up I want to be.....

When you were younger, let's say grade school age, what did you want to be when you grew up? Has it changed now that you are older? If it hasn't, what are you doing to make your dream into a reality? If it has changed, what is your dream job now?

When I was younger I wanted to work with animals. I have always loved dogs and cats. I wanted to be a veterinarian. As I got older I realized that there was a lot of negative things about being a vet. So I went to college and became a veterinary technician. A technician is an animal nurse. You get to help the animals, but you never have to go into a room and give the owners' bad news like their pet is dying.

My dream from when I was little changed, but not by much. What were/are your dreams for "when you grow up"?

I wouldn't want to be a shrink, however; the research area of the field appeals to me much more.

I would also like to double (or just be, if I can't achieve my primary goal) be a novelist. I tend to get more involved with my stories than real life, but I think my writing has a long way to go before it's anywhere near publishable work...

I remember at some point, I think second grade, my plan was to become an astronaut. I drew a picture of me flying in a rocket ship (precariously close to the sun).

Sometime after that my goal was to be a basketball player. That didn't pan out as I quit playing the game when I entered middle school, because I didn't feel good enough. I've recently taken it back up as a hobby however.

I'm sure I probably had some other ideas as a kid, but those are the two I remember most. I'm sure there was a time when I wanted to be an archaeologist because I was massively into dinosaurs as a child. But I "grew out of that" as well.

Now I aspire to become your mooching brother-in-law.

When I was in elementary school, I remember myself being one of those dorks whose life aspirations changed every few days. The ones I remember most include me wanting to be a magician, a basketball player and a cartoonist. None of those ideas panned out very well, heh. Mostly because of my ineffiencies in those areas (I've never been able to learn any magic tricks other than simple ones, I'm not especially talented at basketball and I can't draw for crap).

Right now, I'm focusing myself on becoming a journalist, particularly in the video game industry (I'd prefer the internet more than a magazine because my style of writing just seems better suited to the internet, I think). Writing has been one of the constants in my life that has managed to hold my interest for a long time. Video games also happen to fall into that area, so it's only natural that I'd want to be a gaming journalist. Who knows if I'll achieve my goal, but I'm going for it.

When I was in about kindergarten thru second or third grade, I wanted to be the Green Ranger. Thats right. The P - I - M - P ranger. The reason I wanted to be him so bad was because of his super cool dagger that doubled as a flute that summoned his MegaZord from the nearest body of water (like Godzilla). He was also a renegade / bad guy (if you wanna call him that) that ACTUALLY BEAT THE GOOD GUYS!!! Then he got stupid when he went good and became the white ranger. And why did the black person play the black ranger for a season, then was kicked off? that happened to the asian girl too! She was the yellow ranger. Maybe it was just a coincidence , or some subtle racism... (please disregard what I just said! LOL)

Well, after that power ranger stage, I wanted to be an astronaut, and then a soccer player, and now I'd like to [still] be an astronaut or a writer. Maybe work in the computer field somewhere.

Every year from preschool up to post-kindergarten we were asked by our teachers what we wanted to be when we grew up. I believe that most students wanted to be president, or a race car driver most of the time. I had the same teacher three or four times before I was in second grade, however, so she sort of just gave up on asking me because she knew what I was going to say.[/font]

A year or two ago I subconsciously began to go through a bit of a "maturing" phase, one might say, about my future career. To be an astronaut, one has to be in top physical condition, and I despise exercise. Plus, the isolation of being up in a ship miles above your family and planet for months at a time must be rather crippling. However, after the Space Shuttle Columbia the thought of becoming an astronaut never crossed my mind ever again. It was a big reality check for me when I went downstairs to watch Saturday Morning Cartoons and saw breaking news footage of a space shuttle burning up, killing everyone onboard.

Recently, though, I haven't been 100% sure about what I want to be, professionally. I do like teaching, and good learning environments, so one option is to become a high school teacher, or a college professor, in the best case scenario. Being a professional comic book artist would be nice. I wouldn't like to come up with a poor story, though- I'd only publish a good story, nothing with shallow plot that just seems to be stealing manga techniques as a hook to get money.. Fred Gallagher basically examplifies what I aim to do with MegaTokyo- It doesn't seem like an American comic, necessarily. In fact, it sort of seems like Love Hina. I wasn't too surprised when I saw MegaTokyo on the manga shelf of Suncoast. It feels that authentic.

My art teacher has said that my ideas seem rather complex, even by manga standards. Perhaps it would be best if I were to just become a novelist, or maybe just a writer for some animation company.

I just want to do something creative with my life. I don't want to be stuck behind a desk from 9 to 5, doing the same old routine, running on the hamster wheel of Corporate America.[/color]

I meant I wanted to be a paleontologist who specializes in digging up the remnants of nests. There's actually a semi-amusing story of how I told my daycare teacher, when I was four, that I wanted to be a paleontologist, and how she pretended to know what it meant...heh.

[size=1]This is the easiest question ever for me. Ever since I was little I have always dreamed of becoming a guitarist in a rock band. I started playing the guitar about a year and a half ago and have done actually really well with it. I was planning on starting a "garage band" but then as soon as I had all the people ready for the band, my bassist broke his hand and we couldnt start, and we couldnt find another so we were pretty much screwed.

But anyway, right now I have a Lez(sp?) Paul that I bought from my teacher. Its black and it has the traditional white stripe down the fret to indicate the frets. I love it, and right before I purchased it from her she got it fixed up.

I play mainly alternative rock such as Incubus, blink 182, Greenday etc. I enjoy playing guitar alot and after I get really good at guitar, I plan on starting to play the drums. My neighbor has a drum set so Im over there like learning everyday from her friends boyfriend. Hes so good but anyways.

Yeah, so basically I want to become a "rock star." And I cant wait to finally get my garage band started! ^_^[/size]

Yes, I wanted to be a power ranger, of some sort. When I was little, I wanted to become one of those dudes from Beetle Borgs. Teenager minature versions of Power ranger basically, except the "MegaZords" are mechanical bugs. Aren't you surprised? In preschool, my friends and I would get these plastic bugs and we would go outside and call out the words that makes them go into the suits. It was a perfect match too. 2 guys and 1 girl, exactally what the cast of the show was.

Then Kindergarten, I wanta be Hercules. Why? You tell me lol. THen 1st-2nd grade, I was a hardcore Pokemon Freak. Then 3rd, power rangers again. 4th a DBZ character (or Z-fighter lol).

Now I've gone "real" and in 5th grade (which I am now) I want to be a game designer or a doctor. Anything that pays good and keeps my dignity at the same time lol.

As long as I can remember, I've wanted to be a teacher or a psychologist/psychiatrist. I love working with people and opening their minds to new ideas, and I remember when I was younger and fighting my depression that I had some really awesome teachers who helped me work at my highest potential.

So I've applied to the University of Northern Colorado, which is the best university for teachers in the state... cross your fingers, guys. ^_^

When I was in primary school, I wanted to be a palaeontologist. I was one of those kids who loved dinosaurs and fossils. I thought that'd be a cool job. But as I got a little older, I didn't like the idea so much.

My next goal was to become a fiction author. But again, as the years went by, that idea really fell by the wayside.

And then, during early highschool and such, I wanted to work in the video game industry. That view never really changed over time, either. And finally, in 2002, I began writing for [i]actual [/i]magazine publications in Australia, including our version of Nintendo Power (called Nintendo Gamer Magazine). The main difference though, is that NGM is/was unofficial and not owned or operated by Nintendo itself.

So, I've really enjoyed this particular line of work. Even though I don't specifically have an interest in being a journalist for the rest of my life, being involved in the industry itself has been a great deal of fun. Everything about it is so attractive -- it's creative, fast-paced, high-tech and [b]fun[/b]! ^_^

I would like to continue working within the industry, but I really don't know what I want to do at this point. Right now I'm leaning more toward things like marketing and public relations, as opposed to the traditional project management desire. A lot of people want to be project managers, but it's not easy -- you don't apply for that type of job usually. Generally an artist or a programmer works their way up and eventually takes on a director-like role. It's not really a specific job that you can walk in on (well you can, but it's very rare that such jobs come up).

Also, even though there's a part of me that loves to [i]design [/i]games (in terms of control systems, objective layouts and things like that), I'm not entirely sure if I'd want to be in charge of developing an entire project. Maybe I don't have enough self-confidence, but I don't know if I could handle something that broad.

But at least I know that I enjoy the industry as a whole. There are a million things to do within it, too, which is great. It's better than having [i]no [/i]idea about my future, I suppose. But I'd definitely like to have a more specific course in front of me (as I guess everyone would).[/color]

When I was in Primary School, I loved history. I started thinking about archaeology and that when I developed a hobbie to read about the ancient history of various countries.

During high school, my fascination with Ancient History grew, but the idea of being and Archaeologist kind of faded towards my senior years, as I excelled in Mathematics and my interest in the finance world increased.

Considering finance covered so many fields, I wasn't too sure what I wanted to specialise in so I studied Business. After that was completed, I landed a job in the administration field for 3 years, before I got bored and quit. After that I worked in the finance industry for 9 mths, but it wasn't really what I wanted so I left that too.

Now being out of work 2 months (great holiday) I've had time to think about what I want to do and I realised that finance is the only field I have a passion for...mainly investment services. So now i'm doing my degree in Finance and i'm working my way to becoming a Financial Planner. I've also landed a great role in an investment company. Basically I am finally doing what I've wanted to do since I was 17. :D

Hmmm..... When I was in about first grade I always wanted to be the typical fireman or policeman.

Now that I've gotten older I would say that I am trying to be a videogmae grapics engineer.

All the people do now is make some games that for one have some pretty below average graphics and the game sort of stinks, too.

Now I have to say that what intrests me the most about this career is that you get paid to draw.

I would probably do backgrounds but I haven't decided.

So now I pretty much have my goals set. I would like to work for Final Fantasy Industries. That is at the top of my list though.

My other job was physicist but I would like to draw then figure out some long numbers.

Now I'm a bit more mellow and I just want to major in something with history or literature. Also i want to work as a writer and photographer, even if it's only on the side and not my main source of income.

I wanted to be a palaeontologist too for the longest time. I was obsessed with them ever since I first learned about them.

After the dinosaur interest, I always wanted to become a geologist. I loved rocks and every place I went, I picked up a rock and kept it. I still really like rocks, though I don't want to be a geologist anymore.

I now want to become an artist, journalist, or a carpenter. I can't decide which though.

When I was growing up, I always wanted to be involved with video games somehow. After my dad died, the rest of my family never really pushed me to play sports or anything else... so I fell back on them as my main source of entertainment throughout the years.

Years later I stopped even considering it. I didn't want to do something I enjoy like that for a career. I figured all the fun would be dragged out of it. I'd rather keep games as a hobby and leave it at that.

Hah. Well I've always wanted to be a cartoonist. Later on I decided I'd be a graphics artist for a video game development company. Yeah what a joke. Anyway, I knew I'd go into something involving both computers and drawing, whatever that would be. At this point I'm considering going into medical imaging software development, which means possibly Case Western or Johns Hopkins for grad school.
