I, Colossus
Damn. It's been quite a while. Anyway, I'm glad I held out on getting an SP untill now, because on June 7th, the best SP ever shall come out. An NES themed SP and along with it will be the release of a few NES games, going only for 20 bucks a piece. I'm personally getting Zelda. ;) Anyway, not much to say on this end. Check out the picture though. GBA SP - NES
Guest ScirosDarkblade
Yeah it's one of the coolest things ever. It's too bad that I already have enough GBA SPs, otherwise I'd get this one. But yeah, it's totally awesome and Nintendo deserves some kudos for it (it's a much better idea than their "limited edition" half-platinum-half-black POS that they came out with a little while ago). And the re-release of the classics is cool, but because it's still cartridge format I'll just stick to the Zelda games on the GCN Bonus Disk #2 (the one you get for free by buying certain games or something). Shinmaru
Somehow, some way, I've managed to avoid buying a GBA SP, most likely because I am one cheap bastard. However, I'm really thinking strongly about buying this, though that'll probably involve a lot of luck and soul selling lol. There's no denying that this new rendition of the GBA SP looks damn cool, though. I wouldn't really bother with the games, myself, because I already either have them on Animal Crossing or Zelda Collector's Edition.
Brasil
I can only echo Mike's comments here. The idea of the NES GBA SP (wow...quite the capitals) is very nice, and it can almost be viewed as a reward or incentive for those who already haven't taken the plunge, as it were. Like Mike (HAHA), I'm considering picking this SP up, but I really don't see the need to be excited about any of the games. Animal Crossing has got SMB, LoZ, Ice Climbers, Excitebike (I think), Punch-Out!...so that effectively takes care of half of the collection there, and I honestly don't think the original Donkey Kong is worth 20 bucks, lol. But like I said, I'll probably buy the SP, just for nostalgia's sake, and I hear it's a pretty handy system. Other than that, though, I can only say "eh" for the release. Nintendo has re-released so many of those games so many times in the recent months that I can't see how they think any customer who has not already bought an SP or any of those re-issues on Cube would feel inclined to buy this collection. I enjoy remakes and re-issues, I really do, but there comes a point where it's time to say, "Okay, enough giving us retro material. We want new games." EDIT: And somehow, I don't think luck or soul selling is necessary. Semjaza
I'd be more excited about this thing if it didn't look like a platinum SP with a vinyl sticker thrown on top. It does look cool though. I'm also really disappointed by Nintendo's attempt to bring these games to the GBA. In Japan, the games game in really cool mini-Famicom boxes and the carts were special colors. It was a cool little nostalgic touch. Here we get none of that. It's the old NES art thrown on the standard (ugly, in my opinion) GBA SP box art. I think these are a bit overpriced myself, although Zelda is attractive lol.
Ninjaman
I've been managing without a GBA SP fine mainly because I play my games on the Game Boy Player. Not like I actually want to take my GBA anywhere. The only place I would even want to bring it is at school. Of course, this doesn't mean I don't want a GBA SP. I've been wanting one for a while. Anyway, I'm very iffy on whether or not if I want this new GBA SP. I'm not a big fan of the top half of the GBA SP being platinum, but it's still pretty cool and the games to come with it sweetens the deal for me (I never got the bonus disc that had the Legend of Zelda classics). And lucky me, it's release is right near my birthday. If the top half was onyx color, I'd definitely want it. Hmm, well, I'll most likely end up getting the NES GBA SP anyway. BlueYoshi
It seems that Nintendo have taken yet another dive at reviving retro gaming, which in my opinion is a poor attempt. Nothing seems to have changed about the SP besides its appearance and if I remember correctly, each game listed to be released was available as a portable palm-size unit at a reasonable £10 at any hardware and software store. They may as well release the NES once again, because seriously, I know some people who?d kill for one, and it?s a fact that they won? be suckered into a SP that looks like one. To be fair though, I can see some reason into Nintendo?s retrospective approach, and it would be nice to see something new, but you have to consider that the SP is not their only priority, there are much bigger fish to fry ? namely the PS2, and only the Gamecube can accomplish that. On a side note though ? yeah, Zelda does look good, heh.
Semjaza
Well, I don't really know what one could expect them to do to the SP other than change its appearance. It's not as though they can just make a new layout and design for the thing altogether. It wouldn't make sense from a business, use or consumer perspective. It would just confuse people into thinking it was something else entirely. Also, Nintendo has never officially put any of these games on a Game Boy cartridge (other than Super Mario Bros. in SMB DX), so I'm not sure what games you have seen. I'd assume they were bootlegs. demonjersey
There's really new about it. It's still a GBA SP. I'm more excited to see what the DS is about. Plus you have the PSP coming out soon too. There's tons more to be excited than this thing. I'm completely happy with my cobalt blue GBA SP. Jersey
satan665
For nostalgic value, there's really nothing better than the real NES. Why would I play Zelda on a little tiny screen when I can play at home on a big TV? If I bought this GBA version it would probably just collect dust like my regular advance does. The games should come bundled too, one NES game just isn't worth much anymore. They ought to make a Gamecube disc with 30 games on it, or do collections of Konami games, or all the nintendo games or something like that.
