Syk3
And here is my latest banner, this time for myself. My links and marriage statement were getting lonely in my sig. ;_; I used an interesting technique for this banner, as you can see, which popped into my mind subconciously, probably similar to some other artwork I must have seen in the past. The banner was only created with just two colors: red and white. In the middle of making it, I knew that people would be able to tell it was Kenshin from the outlines, but I realized that showing the scars would make it so much more cool, and confirm the beliefs of people who thought they knew who it was. The only problem with using just two colors was that ideas were limited on expanding it further. In the end, I just decided to use 'hitokiri battosai', because I didn't really want to pull away from the pictures too much. So what do you think of it? Add anything? Keep as it is? eleanor
I love silhouettes. ^_^. Definately keep it as it it, it's a wonderful banner. It gives you a very simple feeling [though I don't know how hard it was to make it] and it has this kind of uneven balance...if that makes sense. >_>. Awesome job.
Roxie Faye
Oh, I love the style of silhouttes, I was fooling around with them and my old Subaru avatar a while ago, and I think they look great anywhere. This is no exception. I love how you added the scars to it, as well. The images that you used were very "clean" and worked well for a nice edge, which is important in silhouttes. My only problem with your images is the color red you chose; it's more of an orange-red if you ask me, but it's really not that important. If you love the color, just ignore me and bash me on the head or something. Once again, "The Syk" continues with his famous and most desired banners. You never cease to amaze me on concepts and styles of banner making. ^^;; Hip hip hooray for syk and his uberly cool concept banner!!!!!! ^____^
Syk3
Thanks for the comments, you two. Feedback on my banners is always great, despite who it's from, because I'm always trying to improve, and I know I have a long way to go.
It gives you a very simple feeling [though I don't know how hard it was to make it'] and it has this kind of uneven balance...if that makes sense. >_>.
Well, it did take a little while to figure out how I would cut out different pieces to get the desired effect, and then go back and take out the scars later, but in hinesight I wouldn't really say it was too difficult. Still came out looking good, though. ^_^
My only problem with your images is the color red you chose; it's more of an orange-red if you ask me, but it's really not that important. Really? o.o I didn't exactly choose the color; I went into Photoshop, chose the red section, and took the color that was the least affected by white, black, or anything. So it should be pure red, according to Photoshop, heh.
Shinmaru
Well, you know how I feel about the banner already...but I'll post my thoughts on it, anyway. I really think the banner is fantastic; perhaps even my favorite of yours that I've seen. The silhouettes are extremely sharp and I really love how the red color stands out against the white. The decision to make Kenshin's scar white was an extremely clever idea, too, I think. Overall, fantastic job, Syk3 ^_^
Roxie Faye
You know, I looked at the banner a second time, and then it looked "true" red. And then I looked at it again and it looked "orangey-red" again. So maybe it's my eyes or something. O_o;;; Just ignore that color comment, then, because I really think my eyes are freaking out.
Pyrophobic
*nods* It looks like brilliant red to me. I think if it were orange-red it would work less successfully. It reminds me a lot of the Japanese flag or natural warning colours - very bold and eye-catching. The silhouettes are also excellently defined, and I agree that the internal details like the scar and the jawbone of the silhouette on the right are very effective (the latter certainly gives much needed definition between the face and neck - good move there). Certainly keep it as it is - the space between the figures is perfect, and I'd be afraid that any additions might clutter or convolute it. You're right - the text fits in perfectly. Great stuff. ^___^
Syk3
It reminds me a lot of the Japanese flag or natural warning colours - very bold and eye-catching.
Heh, I noticed the similarity to the Japanese flag only after I made the banner, with a little help from Sen. Of course, now that I think about it, it makes it even more authentic in a way. Originally, I was going for more of a bloody feel to the banner, which is the legend attached to the name of Hittokiri battosai. As for why I didn't use a darker red, I thought pure red would get the message across fine, and just be, overall, a more eye-pleasing color. SaiyanPrincessX
Ah, more art by Sykers. ^^ This style reminds me of Cowboy Bebop, awesome! Its a very crisp, sharp image. The red & white go well together, and do give it a Japanese feel. I don't think orange and red would have gone together as well, they're both bright, vibrant colors so it wouldn't have the same eye popping affect. Nice job Syk. OtakuSennen
Heh, I noticed the similarity to the Japanese flag only after I made the banner, with a little help from Sen.
"A little"? :p Anyway, I saw this banner via AIM a few days ago, and I was definitely pleased with Syk's latest banner. The whole silhouette thing is always fun, and a well-done one can never be considered stale in my eyes. And as always with Syk3 graphics, I am not let down one bit. The color scheme, choices of images, and choice of font works together perfectly. Now that I'm looking at it a third time, this banner reminds me more of an Adult Swim black-and-white card.. That is, if they were red on white instead of white on black. My only grip about the banner is that the A in "Battosai" is not entirely visible. You can still tell what it says and everything, of course, but something in my obsessive-compulsive brain goes off when I see that. 9.4/10 Bravo, Syk. How long did you spend on this? It's so simple yet intriguing.

This was both because that was the kind of effect that I was going for, and because you can tell what it says, anyway. :p
