Combustible Campus Guardress (Bakuen Campus Guardress)

This is a 4 episode OAV from waaaaay back in 1994, when the Japanese anime market was going good. It's an over-the-top comedy similar to Bastard! It will probably appeal to fans of that show and it contains some of the same sword-and-sorcery type stuff - ancient legends, mystic combat and so on.

This show, however, is set in a contemporary Japanese high school and schoolgirl romance is also part of the action (along with some old-style fanservice). The short running time keeps the writers on their toes - the story is coherent and well-paced. Hazumi, the heroine, is unforgettable. It's good-looking and has some good music.

I have watched and enjoyed this show several times over. Because of various problems this show is rumored to be lost forever as a commercial property. Hopefully the release of VHS caps from the old fansubbed tapes (check AnimeSuki for torrents) will lead to a new digital fansub release, as that seems to happen more and more lately.

I've been searching desperatly for the manga but have failed horribly.

Anyways, Bakuen Campus Guardress is up there in the big "favourite anime" list. If I knew where I could find tapes, I'd snatch it up in a second. It is one of the funniest animes ever.
I've been searching desperatly for the manga but have failed horribly...
What manga? This show was cobbled together out of some published sketches and character designs by Kazushi Hagiwara. Maybe some of those works are contained in Bastard!! Guardress Hagiwara Kazushi Illustrations I & II, but I can't say for sure.

I do believe it was a short manga in V-Jump, but chances are that I'm wrong, your right, and this whole search was a big waste of time.Oh well, I don't care that much.

I do still have Legend of Basara manga to look for, I'm almost sure that exsists!

Huh, I was looking over some old posts and I noticed that I was hoping here for a fresh digisub of this otherwise unobtainable property.

Central Anime did the honors and the entire series has been available for awhile. It was made from the same ancient laser discs the VHS subs were and of course looks far better. And Bakuen CG can still beat the stuffing out of many or most series made ten years later.
