I want to know what were your favorite boss battles. I like to know what game they were from and some posotives and negatives about them. My favorite boss battle was in Final Fantasy II the final boss. He was cool. He looked freaky, and I like freaky. His theme song was awesome. If anybody could shop for any game in the old platforms such as Super Nes You should get FFII.

I like Anubis in Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner. I'm referring to the battle in compressed space (orange stuff). Anubis is a giant mech (Orbital Frame) piloted by Nohman, a complete psycho. It's a very challenging battle, and although Anubis' constant teleporting away from you gets old after a while, it's a very enjoyaable fight.

My two favorite boss fights are:

Name: EYEDOL
Game: Killer Instinct (SNES, Arcade)
Difficulty: maximum
Why: Eyedol looks unbelievably awesome. He wields a huge club, has two one-horned one-eyed heads, and has hooved feet. Not only that, but he is a really badass dude. Fighting him on the highest difficult is a real bother, because one slip-up and you lose half your life and he gains all of his life back. It takes some real skill to beat him, let alone the ridiculous, MAD SKILL it takes to beat KI on max difficulty without dying at all. Eyedol is the most intimidating boss, ever.

Name: K. ROOL
Game: DK64
Difficulty: nope!
Why: DK64 was a *shrug* experience for the most part. Nothing all too exciting, new, or challenging. But the final boss, a 5-round bout in the boxing ring against the Kremling King, was just phenomenal. Why? Because it was hilarious. It was a very involved fight, which consisted of shooting light fixtures on the ceiling with Diddy until one fell on K.Rool's head, then luring the blind, stumbling reptile towards Lanky's trombone, and having him slip on a banana peel and falling on his arse. It was awesome, and I urge those of you who didn't finish DK64 because of its inability to keep you interested, to at least borrow a finished game from someone and fight K. Rool. It's great.

In general, I enjoy the boss fights in the Legend of Zelda games the most, especially from Link to the Past on. Link to the Past has some great boss fights, heh. While a few of them are pretty easy, they're still plenty intense and that's what really matters to me. It's not how difficult the fight is, it's the rush you get while fighting the boss that matters (though, admittedly, a really easy boss doesn't give you that much of a rush).

Though the hardest boss fight in Link to the Past, in my opinion, is the fight with the Helmasaur King in the Dark Palace, my three favorites are the fights with Mothula (Skull Dungeon), Blind the Thief (Theives' Town) and Trinexx (Turtle Rock). All three fights are really representative of the intense situations that boss fights in Link to the Past put you in and are examples of Zelda boss fights at their absolute best.

I have to agree with Shinmaru about Zelda: A Link to the Past having some awesome boss fights, but I have a different favorite from that game; that is, Kholdstare, the boss of Level 5: Ice Palace. I discovered just how much I like this fight when I went up against Kholdstare on my "bare minimum" play-through of ZLTP. Only having ten hearts, the Lv.2 Master Sword, no Blue Mail, and no 1/2 Magic Upgrade for the fight really added some difficulty, heh.

Really, I've played through ZLTP so many times that I can breeze through the game without any trouble if I get all the items and whatnot. Only getting items that are absolutely necessary, however, really made me have to be more careful and alert while playing, especially for the boss fights. Bosses that I could normally beat with no trouble whatsoever, I found myself dying on multiple times. Kholdstare was one of these bosses, and while it was hard, dang was it fun trying to beat it. (And when I did finally beat it on my third try, it was so much more satisfying than any other time).

While the action of the Kholdstare fight isn't as fast paced as Shinmaru's example of the Blind the Thief fight, it's no less intense. Moreso, in fact, from my latest experience. First off in the fight with Kholdstare, you have to use all of your magic power just to melt the giant ice block in which Kholdstare is frozen, unless you've gotten the 1/2 Magic upgrade, in which case it only takes half of your magic power. Then what looked like one giant, puffy eyeball thing turns out to be three, and they all start chasing you around the room. And all the while, chunks of ice are falling from the ceiling, which split into four smaller pieces upon impact. "Constant motion" is the key phrase of the fight; if you stop moving, you will get hit.

And the great thing about this fight is that, since you're expected to have the Lv.3 Tempered Sword and the Blue Mail at this point, Kholdstare inflicts about twice as much damage per hit and takes about twice as many hits to kill if you haven't gotten those two items. Which means that this is a good long fight without them, and you'll be desperately dodging and slashing for your life the whole time. When touching any of Kholdstare's three parts does four hearts of damage, you can't afford one more hit, because you can only take two and then the third will kill you.

An awesome fight all around, this, in my opinion, is a Zelda boss battle at its finest. Never before had I had that much fun fighting a boss in any game, let alone the Zelda series.

Hmmmm.

Vega (Street Fighter II: WW-Super Street Fighter II: Turbo)
AKA: Bison in America

Vega was just cool and sleek, his power was immense and his combos hurt... a LOT. Remember his constant mix ups on the arcade version of Super Turbo? I sure as hell do, and I had some real trouble trying to get around them with large characters like Sagat.

Now that I'm older and am an experianced Street Fighter Vetran and Fanatic it's easy to beat him on normal mode.... but level 8 difficulty on the US version of Super Turbo is still insane. I only use that difficulty to try and keep my skillz up.

Dr. Wily (EVERY Mega Man game known to man.. and some that aren't)

Simply put, he was a bastard. And everyone loves him. His constant mix ups (except for his damn spaceship he always used at the end.) of death contraptions throughout the games and the diffrent stratagies used on him keep this villan fresh as laundry from the dryer.

Favourite boss battle, eh? That's a hard one. I can't really pick an overall favourite, but the most memorable for me would have to be the final boss in Star Fox Adventures. Yeah, strange choice I know, but to me it had the perfect difficulty level. It's probably the most memorable for me though because it's the most recent boss battle I've been really impressed with.

Now that I think about it, the boss battles in Yoshi's Island were all pretty sweet. They weren't very difficult, but they were fun. So many bubbles...

Ocarina of Time's boss battles were also pretty damn good, come to think of it. King Dodongo rocked, even though he was too easy. His intro was just so cool though. Barinade was awesome too, so much stuff to do. Yep, OoT had lots of variation in its boss battles, unlike some other games. I won't mention any names.

Finally, I'd like to mention the final battle of Super Mario Sunshine. It was such a dissapointment it was fun. Hell, it had an FMV intro, so I have to forgive it.

The killer-super-coolest boss I ever fought?

LET'S GO FINAL FANTASY!!!!!

1. Ultimecia - FF8 - She shape-shifts all the time and her Lion Heart killer!
2. Necron - FF9 - His Grand Lethal and his Necron Ring are total killers too!
3. Last form of Sephiroth (forgot name) - FF7 - Geez, I had to use all my megalixirs, elixirs, remedies and phoenix downs just killing him!

Nuff said :smirk:
Wipe that smirk off your face, pardner.

That is most definitely not enough said. If you take a look around, you'll see that just about everyone else whom has posted in this thread has given some sort of reasoning for their choice. If you just give the choice, why would anyone really care? You're voicing your opinion, but nothing's really coming out of it; if you included some reasoning behind your choice, then we'd have something.

There are a billion bosses that come to mind for me, in terms of them being really cool.

But I have to say, the one that first came to mind when I read the thread title was Bowser, in Super Mario 64.

There was something incredibly awesome about spinning him around by the tail, in 3D. I mean, it was Mario's first 3D game...and we weren't even doing something boring like jumping on his head. The sheer coolness of spinning around a giant dinosaur like that just can't be comprehended! :lecture:

Ignas of KOF 2001, now I had hard boss fights in my day but fighting Ignas is
nearly impossible playing with fair tactics.

Sephiroth of FF7-Ha, what can I say that hasn't been said?

Omega Rugal- Hardest of CVS 2, very challenging

Haven't posted sense I made this but I found some other cool battles. I really like the battle with Yunalesca in FFX. She has the three forms, I forgot their names, but i twas a lot of fun. I had fun trying to beat her because when I did I was like a real strong thing. Anyway there are negatives about FFX. Three to be exact. Seymour Battle 1 Seymour battle 2 and finally is seymour battle 3. heh heh. Hey do you know any games that have just an insanley both hard and insanley looking. That would be appreciated.

Diamond WEAPON from Final Fantasy 7. What can I say but I enjoy hard fights. I was level 99 I only came out of that fight with cloud at 168 HP. I had finished him off with the OminSlash.

Either that of Ruby WEAPON. Little did I know he'd always retaliate with Ultima when I used my KOTR Summon. That was a *****...

my favorite boss battle was against sephiroth in kingdom hearts. he was very hard to beat at first and the arena was pretty confined, so it was hard to dodge around. the hardest one to dodge was sin harvest. sometimes you would have random unexplained deaths. it would be great if i had a lot of time on my hands but since i like this site so much, it takes away from my video game time. if you havent beat sephiroth yet here is my strategy. equip the mp rage ability. get tons of elixirs and hi potions. as soon as the battle starts cast aeroga. run up to seph and beat the sense out of him. when you see him teleport and you hear the words sin harvest, run at the speed you never ran before and hit him. from that time on the battle will be pretty easy. The most challenging video game boss in the history of challenging video game bosses was the Icon of Sin, final baddie of Doom II[/url. The Icon was a single huge wall with the picture of a goat demon with a hole in its forehead. Through the hole it shot out skull cubes. The skull cubes were not aimed at you, although one would do damage should it hit you.

The skull cube hits the ground and becomes a demon. Here's what makes it horrible: these cubes can become any of the game's monsters to attack you. Well, almost any. No human zombies don't form, but you'll hardly notice.

You've got Imps, Bull Demons, Mancubuses and Arch Villes coming into existance, and then some. Heck, the Arch Vile alone was a powerful beastie, who could burn you without touching you, lift you through the air, and resurrect dead monsters.

You have to kill the Icon, but the only way to do so is to fire rockets through the hole in his forehead, and the only way to do that is to descend to a rising platform surrounded by harmful toxic waste. You have to launch your rocket at exactly the right time to get it into the hole, and you must get a direct shot with three rockets.

Oh, and those other demons? If they're not fighting you, they're fighting each other. The longer you take to kill the Icon, the more the situation descends into bedlam, and the less likely you are to survive.

'Course, you could always just yse a cheat code to 'clip' through the wall, where you see that the Icon is, in reality, none other than the severed head of ID designer John Romero. Yeah, those guys got a twisted sense of humor....

Anyway, the Icon takes my vote, simply for the sheer amount of chaos he can create in a very short time.

Man, I love Doom.

I was going to also say the exact same thing. Everyone give some love for the original bad boss. As much as Super Mario 64 was, I still like the original Super Mario Bros. Bowser the best. Yes, it is extremely easy for people now, but back then, it was such a rush to be like, "I am finally at Bowser." All you had to do was jump over him and touch that axe, but you have to admit, that game was awesome back in the day.

My favorite Boss' are as follows:

M. Bison from the Street Fighter series, preferably Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha III for being so near invincible. In A3, his special, the Psycho Crusher, is almost too powerful. It comes out extremely fast, it builds up quick, and its cover the whole screen, and when your hit, it takes off half of your health meter. He is also wickedly evil and just looks menacing.

Metal Gear Rex/Liquid Snake from Metal Gear Solid. Never have I felt such gratitude (rivavled only by the following) of beating a boss battle as I have in beating Metal Gear Rex and Liquid as its pilot, aswell as its incredible arsenal and difficult defeat (took me about 3 days) it looked incredibly cool and alot of dramatic story regarding Ninja/Grey Fox took place. Great boss and greater boss battle. And what better reward than that diabolical stealth camoflauge?

Solidus Snake from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Just a really cool look to him. He looks sly and kaniving, like a terrorist leader while still looking like he could kick serious a-- (and he does) by himself. He's final battle took me about 15 attempts and I had fun doing it. It was excellent. I loved the gratification after finally beating him and the game, which I had been playing for about 8 hours in that night. I hallucinated the quite a bit the next day, but it was worth it.

The Devil from Devil May Cry. Jeez, I played for 3 days straight and never have I felt so much pressure or sure humongous size in a boss battle. I mean I was sweating and clenching the controller so hard I feared it would snap in half because of the pressure. It was just intense and I loved every second of it. Not to mention the cool look and weapons gained at that point.

The Lava Spider who's name I forget from Devil May Cry. Just a fun guy to be the crap out of. Not extremely hard once you figure out how to jump on his back and launch grenades into his weak spot up close. I just have fun beating the guy up, twice at that. But I have to give it to the Big Bird for difficulty and coolness of minions, those lizard men just kicked so much a-- and I had fun kickin' their's with the awsome grenade too sword combo's I whipped out (try 30 something hit combo while facing about 8 of them at once). Just good fun both of them.

The trick to defeating Shin Vega (Bison in the US version. Most of my SF games are imports.) is stay on the ground and turtle when his bar is full at MAX. You can fool the CPU with certain characters to give you the Mega Psycho Crusher on a whim. (Ken's LP Shoryuken at a certain distance does it. I think one of Charlie's moves can trick the CPU as well.) After the super has been wasted proceed to fight like before. Rushing and poking seem to really help. Playing Defensivly is harder due to Shin Vega's inhuman reaction time and shortened lag after certain moves, but it is far from impossible if you keep a level head.

And as for Solidus, he was a cool boss. But not even he could help salvage the stupid plot of MGS2, or get past the fact that Solid Snake, the John Rambo of Video Games wasn't playable the whole time.

i have lots of memorable boss fights:

Psycho Mantis
game: metal gear solid/metal gear solid: the twin snakes

perhaps the greatest boss ever made in HISTORY!!! it was so innovative creating a boss that can predict all your moves!!! plus he can also trash talk you on how well and how poor you've progressed throughout the game plus he can also say what konami games were saved in your memory card. i had no idea
plugging the controller into controller port 2
was the the only way to beat him until my 2nd try...

Bowser
game:mario 64

i agree with the other guys that said bowser, it's the mos unique way of beating bowser...swinging him by his tail hehe those were good times!! GOOD TIMES!!!

Andross(final form hard mode)
game: starfox 64

this one's a tuffie though, it took skill to get to this guy the
huge brain
form was pretty wicked.

Sniper Wolf
game: metal gear solid/metal gear solid: the twin snakes

all sniping bosses are awesome, IMO sniper wolf defined it...
nothing beats shooting, your camo filled enemy in the snow....

Interesting, most interesting.

Greatest Videogame Bosses eh ? Well one of the most obvious contenders to the title, Super Mario 64?s Bowser have already been mentioned but there are a few other?s I think in my experience deserve a shot at the title.

Desann -Jedi Outcast - Jedi Master setting: If you are fortunate or perhaps unfortunate enough to survive long enough to reach this battle then you?d truly want to have Jedi reflexes in order to keep up with this Chistori. I personally find that sadly Desann in the game suffers from ?final boss syndrome? in that he is so powerful he can successfully duel against Luke Skywalker and potentially win before you get your chance to fight him, during which time he has of course gotten even stronger. I have only even beaten him once out of God knows how many times I?ve gone to fight him, and then only through pure luck by
bringing down one of the three pillars on his Dark Jedi ***
.

Boss/The Joy - Metal Gear Solid 3: There is no way in hell that this woman does not deserve a shot at the title, if not the title itself given the game. While she may not have been as tough as I was expecting, but honestly I only played it for a week on normal so that?s not as fair assessment of what she might have been capable of, she definitely did make the game what it was as a lead character. I mean she?s Big Boss? mentor for God?s sake so what more needs to be said. Sadly for Thunderbolt I found him to be too much air and not enough substance to even warrant anything other than an insulting mention.

Ganondorf - Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker: By the time you actually get to face Ganondorf I personally found that you feel sorry for him more than anything else. Still he was a very cool boss and the tag-team requirements to beat him added another dimension to the battle, he was probably one of the only bosses in the game who I lost a life against over the course of the fight.

Jack of Blades - Fable/Fable: The Lost Chapters: The Darth Vader of Fable with his eerily calm depth of voice and mannerisms that belied the heart of a true villain. I must admit I was rather disappointed with the way the finished his character in TLC
I mean that dragon
really did seem a bit over the top without brining anything to the game. What really made Jack great was the fact that he was understated, he didn't look all that strong or capable and yet tangling with him meant almost certain death. Like Ganondorf, while not particularly tough if you have the right spells and attributes at your disposal he still was the villain that made the game.

Lets seeeeee....My Top 3 favorite boss battles are as follwed and not as casual as everyone elses.

Solus from Breakdown- First off, Breakdown was breakthrough (No pun intended, you jerks.) because it focused on melee combat in first person so running around and duking it out with T'lan Warriors (The games' baddies) was extremely fun because of Derrick Cole's (Main character) range of movement and sense of....awesomeness. Such is the case when sliding; you would see your legs out in front of you and your arm up for balance, or when upper cutting the screen would blur with the power of the punch as you see Derricks fist fly up for such a brutal attack...But review aside I thought Solus was a bad-*** because not only was he voiced by a pretty good voice actor, the character himself was cool. Just think of an out-of-world uber bad guy who would put Bruce Lee to shame with a mere finger. The fight was so intense because if you didn't have your movement or blocking down pat he would let you discover your religion. Everything about that fight screamed greatness, though a shame Breakdown never got the recognition it deserved.

The Oracle from Indigo Prophecy - Although you never actually got to fight in that game, all you did was press the correspoding buttons in a simon-says gimmick to progress your actions along, the mo-cap was pretty amazing and while the fight wasn't hard it was full of stuff you'd expect to see in a Matrix film...The Oracle just had that aura that made you sit there and go, 'That guy rules'.

Cyber Demon from Doom - I noticed someone else put the Icon of Sin in their 'Best baddie' post but I personally thought that the Icon of Sin was too....lame. Now, the Cyber Demon takes the cake for all baddies ever, especially in Doom 3 where he was portrayed the way he was meant to be....Large. Whats' not to like? The Cyber Demon is big, ugly, half-cybernetic and has a large plasma cannon on its right arm. It was sheer terror when fighting that thing in both Doom and Doom 3.
