terra
I'm in New Zealand at the moment, and over Easter break (a couple weeks ago) we went to Queenstown, which calls itself the center (centre, I suppose) for "extreme sports" in New Zealand. There, I went tandem skydiving for the first time -- which involved being strapped to an experienced skydiving instructor and allowing him to force me to jump out of a plane from 9000 feet. Together, we went through about a 20-second freefall, then the parachute opened and we paraglided down for another five or six minutes. It cost me $245 NZ (which is about $160 American) and it scared me to death. But it was amazingly fun, and my friend and I are thinking of driving to another skydiving place some weekend so we can do it again :). Tomorrow, she and I are going bungy jumping off the Auckland Harbor (... Harbour, technically) Bridge. I'm a little apprehensive, because this time I'll actually have to do the jumping myself, and I've heard the feeling is really different from skydiving ... Anyone here ever bungy jumped before, or is interested in doing it someday? Or done any other "extreme sports" they want to share?
Balinese
a couple of my friends do extreme sports in their spare time... Jerry does extreme snowboarding and 4-wheeling, and Josh does extreme biking. when Jerry used to come to school (he graduated) he never had bruises or anything, but Josh always wanders in with half the skin missing from his arms and legs. i'd LOVE to go skydiving/bungee jumping! it looks like so much fun! they even have a ride at Elitch's that simulates bungee jumping: you get a friend, pay them $28, get strapped into this sling-thingy, then get dropped from like 90 feet up! AzureWolf
Aside from scaring the life out of you and the thrill, are there any other positive effects "extreme sports" gives you? I mean, does it help you to relieve stress/relax? Personally, it all sounds suicidal to me. That's probably because of how all those sports are publicized, though. It's rare for people to air successful happenings of such things, but when someone's head is impaled to the floor, you'll be sure to see cameras and newcasters around. I would have to get some kind of 100% assurance that I'll live (something like an immortality potion) before I would do that. But hey, I might get suicidal someday, so you never know. ;)
Panda
I really don't consider it an extreme sport but I do love rock climbing. Sport only not traditional. The difference between the two is that sport climbing is when there are already bolts placed in the rock that you can clip into. Traditional climbing is when you place your own cams and safety equipment. What I find really enjoyable about climbing is that it is a great workout. There is nothing else I think about when I am climbing, only climbing. Being out in the sunshine is a wonderful feeling. I have been out climbing when there have been some pretty bad accidents. Ones that the people have to be taken out by helicopter. Usually it is people who don't know what they are doing or just aren't paying attention. Climbing is definately not something you want to do if your mind isn't on the task at hand. The worst injury I have ever had ::knock on wood:: is some scratches and bruises from bumping into the rocks. Great sport as long as you take the proper safety measures. :)
RainbowChick
Heh. I love rock climbing too. I sometimes do extreme biking. I've tried skydiving during summer a few times and it's awesome. Scared the hell out of me but still fun. That's all I do for extreme sports but my friend is into extreme snowboarding. I don't know if I'll ever try it...looks scary to me. Plus I'd be happy to just plain old snowboard without falling, lol.
Soal
It's great to see that your living life to it's fullest, just be careful though, I myself don't do any extreme sports because, well I'm not sure what kinds of extreme sports are out there, in fact I don't do many sports at all, I just stick home and play Video Games (I make thousands of new records everyday) The only exercise I get is during school days, or when I'm playing video games (thumb exercise  )
Japan
Besides participating in the sports such as soccer and swimming, all I do are extreme sports. I snowboard a lot during the winter season. I am afraid of heights, but I do it anyways. I go like six or seven times each year. I also like roller blading. I've been a blader for quite awhile. I can do plenty of tricks, and I thrive on going very very fast. The newest thing I've tried, and that I've been working on is skateboarding. I can actually ride it, but the only trick that I can to so far is a kick flip. I to enjoy rock climbing, and bouldering as well. I prefer the climbing gyms, because I can get a better work out that way, and it is more fun for me. I love top roping and bouldering a lot. It helps strengthin my muscles. The best thing about extreme sports, I think, is that it relieves a lot of stress. Other sports I am planning to try, once I move out from under my parents' roof, is to try skydiving. I know that they wouldn't let me do it....so, I'll have to save that for a later date.
Nate
SKATEBOARDING! The most extreme thing in life that is a poser sport, in my opinion. To me, not only is in a thrill to jump a few stairs, it's great exercise. If I don't sakte for a few days, my leg muscles get weak, but once i get back to it, I get all my strength back. Another is BMX. Great sport, awesome tricks, and sick videos. Who ever decided to put a metal peg on the screw that holds the wheels, I want to shake his hand and give him a million dollars. No doupt, he probably has a million dollrs, but still. _-Nate-_

Though...I used my mountain bike while going over some of the bumps and hills. it was cool.
terra
I've been wondering what the definition of "extreme sports" is. I mean, according to the bungy jumping company ad, bungy jumping is an extreme sport, but I really wouldn't consider it a sport at all ... it's just jumping off something while you're attached to something else. I did end up going, by the way, and I'm still alive. It was really incredibly freaking scary. I cannot stress that enough ... and it was definitely way scarier than skydiving. (If you want to hear more about it, I wrote a myO post on it.) Rock climbing/bouldering sounds really fun. I've had a little experience with it, but not much. BMX also seems really fun, but I don't think there's any way I could ever do it, I'd be too afraid of falling. Once I went mountain biking (I think I'm getting a little rambly here) and it scared me to death. I'm just freaked out to go that fast, because I just keep thinking I'll fall. Heck, I won't even slide across the floor in my socks because I think I'll fall ... Yes, yet jumping off a bridge is okay, I know, it's not the best logic ever. RainbowChick
Now that I think of it, I do more stuff than that. I've done bungi jumping a couple of times...so much fun. And I mountain bike all the time. Let's see...oh I tried ice climbing once. That was scary. And white water rafting is awesome, once you get over the fear of drowning that is, lol. A lot of my friends skateboard but I haven't tried it yet...I might but rollerblades are fine with me, for now.
black bird
I want to try out skateboarding for a long time now but I don't exactly know if it's the thing for me . But wow :wow: it's awesome when I look at someone skateboarding then I'm thinking by my self that's awesome wouldn't be great if I could do that . I'm saving money to buy a skateboard now . When I graduate I'm buying it then I'm allowed to brake boons from my mom . I hope I don't brake any boons  but I'll try anyway .(not to brake boons but to skate board well duhh ) Yeah BMX sounds great to but I think the bike costs a lot . I used to have a mountain bike . I could cross on the streets really well , I drove to school with that thing every day ......It was my best bud . But then I got to big and now I have one of those lady bikes ( not made for riding wild ) and sucks big time . But I don't know if BMX is something for me and if I bought the bike it's a waste of money . So I guess I'll start with skateboarding on a cheap board to try it out . Oh and hang gliding , yep that's awesome . I think it's the closest you can come to actually flying like a bird . I wanna try it some day to . One last thing . I have respect for all you guys and girls that do extreme sports , you're awesome . bye bye
ChibiHorsewoman
I'm not much of an extreme sport person unless you count cross country jumping as an extreme sport since you're racing angainst the clock on an animal which weighs more than 1,000lbs and doing all sorts of jumps. I mean, you do need protective equipment and everything. (vest, helmet, lack of sanity ect ect) I've always wanted to try bungee jumping it looks fun. Really fun. They have this bungee thing at Six Flags Darien Lake called the sky coaster which drops you and two of your friends over the park. but it costs $35.oo a person give or take and most of my friends have an aversion to heights and plummeting to the ground. But maybe next year (but Matt can't go, because he can't even go on the tilt-a-whirl then the swings without throwing up). I have no hand eye cordination and too much of a fear of breaking every bone in my body to do any other sports besides horseback riding and snowboarding on the bunny slopes, so I'm not all that fearless. But hey, anything once.
Ben
I once went on something in New Jersey called 'Extreme Velocity.' It was basically a large slingshot with a little sphere in the center of it. The sphere had two seats in it and a video camera pointed at the seats. The sphere is attached to the rope/wire/cable in between the two poles, and people are seated inside, one or two at a time. After a minute or two, you are launched high into the air, beyond the tips of the two poles. It was extremely fun. ^_^ My sister and I went on it together. We got a great (albeit spinning) view of the surrounding area, and chatted idly on the way down. I was laughing just about the rest of the time. And, I got a t-shirt that says "Did it!" on the back. That's gotten me a number of arched eyebrows and questions. :p
