50 cent
Really in this thread I would like to know what type of games you guys are all into. Me personally I am into shooting/action games and racing games. I am not a huge fan of RPG's but I do play them every now and then. The RPG's I mainly play include the Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy's. Also I want to know if you are looking for a good game what qualities should these games have? For example: drama, love intrests, etc. Do you want the main character to be a unknown city person who saves the day or love, etc. In racing games do you expect some old fashion cars with the modern day car, or with just racing cars? Do you want to have a modern day car where you need to buy parts to make it better? In a shooting game do you look forward to it being on Earth, or in outer space on a distant planet? Do you want a normal reloading time or infinite ammo? Do you like the realism in the reloading and stuff like that? Do you want to be a normal soldier that works there way to the top or is already at the top but keeps getting better? Do you like it were your a normal person like everyone else just skills get better? So really all you need to tell me is what type of games entertain you, and what qualities do you look for in a good game? 50 out
Guest ScirosDarkblade
Really in this thread I would like to know what type of games you guys are all into. Me personally I am into shooting/action games and racing games. I am not a huge fan of RPG's but I do play them every now and then. The RPG's I mainly play include the Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy's.
I like all genres except puzzle (like Bust-A-Move), sports (mostly those with years in their titles), and "tycoon" or "sim"-type games. My favorite would have to be action-adventure (like Zelda). Other than that my favorite games come from all sorts of genres.
Also I want to know if you are looking for a good game what qualities should these games have? For example: drama, love intrests, etc. Do you want the main character to be a unknown city person who saves the day or love, etc.
I need a game to appeal to me visually. This might mean state-of-the-art graphics, or it might mean pretty landscapes, or it might mean cool-looking weapons. Something that would have me look at the screen and like what I see. It also means a lot to me if a game has a character I can like. In very open-ended RPGs like Morrowind I have the freedom to make such a character as I will like. Other games have to just "get it right." A game that failed was, interestingly, Prince of Persia. It's a cool game, but I can't stand to look at the prince (though in part it's because the in-game model for him is pretty crappy; he's better in the FMVs). But that's just me; I have particular tastes. Finally, I totally like great soundtracks, and if a game's music is good enough, I'll play it just for that (not all the way through if everything about it sucks, though, as was the case with Xenosaga; 20 hours and I was done). But anyway good music means a lot to me.
In racing games do you expect some old fashion cars with the modern day car, or with just racing cars? Do you want to have a modern day car where you need to buy parts to make it better?
Racing games... I like exotics. I subscribe to Road and Track, Car and Driver, etc., and I can't get enough of Lamborghinis and Ferraris and other fast cars. I prefer racing games which have as few "normal" cars as possible (by normal I mean the low-end cars you find in something like PGR) and as many 500+ bhp cars as possible. McLaren F1 LMs, stuff like that. I can't wait for the next "NFS: Hot Pursuit" title from EA. I don't like ricers (or games about them) so much. Sure, some of them look pretty cool, but really all the cool ones kinda look the same. And all the upgrades in the world won't make a Civic look like a Saleen S7. Really, with exotics, it's all about the look and the prestige. A 700-hp Supra is one thing. But it's just not the same driving experience (even in a game, for me) as when you're behind the wheel of a Carrera GT.
In a shooting game do you look forward to it being on Earth, or in outer space on a distant planet? Do you want a normal reloading time or infinite ammo? Do you like it were your a normal person like everyone else just skills get better?
Location: as long as the enemies are cool, it can be a ringworld, Hell, post-apocalyptic Earth, whatever. The enemies have to be cool. Ammo: reloading is definitely preferable, but it shouldn't be a nuisance. It rarely is, though. I figure the closer to a "realistic" experience you're treated to, the more immersive a game is. Reloading adds to that. Character: Whoever I am, I want it to make sense that I'm badass. If I'm some scientist working in the lab who has to become the "unlikely hero" who can all of a sudden wield 90-pound plasma rifles, then I don't feel like my character... has a proper history or something. It wouldn't feel right. But hey, so far the characters I've been were James Bond, Joanna Dark, Samus Aran, Master Chief, Turok, etc. I don't remember who is in Timesplitters 2 but I don't like that game anyway so I don't care. Shinmaru
I'll play just about any genre, except for racing because most of them bore me (unless it's something cool like Mario Kart or one of the Need for Speed games). I'm open to just about anything, though I do have my preferences, which mostly lie in the realm of platformers and Action-RPGs. Graphics don't really matter to me that much; as long as I can look at them without my eyes bleeding, I'm fine (unless there's a lot of slowdown or clipping and such, then I have a problem, no matter how fantastic the graphics look). I'm far more picky with sound than I am with graphics, heh. If a game doesn't have good sound or good music, then I probably won't play it. There's something about bad sound that makes games with bad sound extremely unplayable for me. For platformers, I like a mix of the familiar and the new, which is the path that a lot of platformers seem to be taking right now. You've got your familiar "run and jump" gameplay mixed in with a healthy assortment of other genres, which is pretty cool, I think. More and more games seem to be eschewing the standard "collect a ton of crap to pass this level" gameplay mechanic, too, which I think is wonderful. I hate collecting a ton of crap. For Action-RPGs, I like the game to be more immersive than a game would normally be, because I like to feel like I'm actually in the world that my character is in. Also, Action-RPGs have to have good fighting engines, no questions asked, since you'll be going through a ton of real-time fights in an Action-RPG, heh. Good puzzles are a must, too, since I like figuring out a tough puzzle.
Desbreko
Falkon and noelmvilla, please don't just post lists of your favorite games. This thread is about what types of games you like, not just which ones you like. Posting a list of your favorite games and adds nothing to the discussion and is considered spam. The same goes for your post, JuliasPeach, though not quite to the same extent. You posted up some things you look for in games, but you need to flesh those out. Give some details about the things you like games to have, why you like those things, a few examples maybe, stuff like that. *deletes posts*
G/S/B Master
I'm into Simulation Army games like Romance of the Three Kingdoms or games that is like a Choose-Your-Adventure games like Kessen or it's sequal. RPGs are nce also. But I pratically play any games I get my dirty hands on. In fighting games, I pick blood first. If it has serious blood (like Drakengard), then it will be on top of my list. SInce I have a thing for blood and I use that game as a stress/pain/anger reliever. Also, I'm looking for a little bit of RPG in it. Like Smackdown! Here comes the Pain. In RPG, gameplay is first. Really, I don't want to play an RPG with the controls and the actions all wonky. Final Fantasy or Drakengard type of RPG is GREAT! I alo check how "cool" looking teh characters all XD. If they dress in a "hobo" fasion, then I would stay as far away from that gmae as possible. THe character's appearance is how the storyline developes, which is the way I sway now. In shooting games, I'm into Hitman and it's sequals/prequals. I expect shooting missions and some sniping action. HItman combines the flexibility of different ways of killing people or knocking them out. Also, it's a strategic game. Hitmen is basically all I want in a shooting game. I don't really care about racing games. Unless it's mario cart or games that you can launch weapons, it's great. Racing wasn't my thing in the first place. I don't care about graphics, but as long it's not 8-bit or gigantic floating cubes out of nowhere, it's fine. Simulation Games like RoTK are GREAT! It takes me into the era and I can do whatever they did back then. Simulation of politic wars, battles, and even make friendships with other rulers so that I can use them to gang up on my enemies ^_^. Stratagy games like Kessen II, I expect some VIOLENCE! No violence = me no buying it! Violence is the only way I'll buy a stratagy game. Or if it has some connection of my interest, like Kessen I and II, it's connected to RoTK and the Dynasty Warriors series.
Shiguru
I'm into all kinds of genre's. My favorite's are fighting and action games though. I dispise turn based combat so I'm not the biggest fan of many RPG's, but an original twist on a story is cool (Am I the only person who wants to see an awesome modern-day RPG? I'm tired of the Final Fantasy future rpgs and everything taking place in a historical setting.) Action games are great because I like the adrenaline rush of a well executed action game. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is an excellent action game that totally rules because not only does it have an awesome combat system and arobatic feats... it makes you think! The whole Metal Gear series was the same way, MGS2 escpecially as the plot was so horrid you had to think why the hell they wrote it. FPS's are another great thing for me. Just sit me down with a keyboard, monitor, and mouse and I'm ready to go at it. The the thrill of capping your best buds with a sniper rifle is awesome. I like the setting anywhere as long as it's cool and immersive. I also enjoy it when you have an unlikley hero play a role as the character as it adds to the plot most of the time. Fighting game are amazing for several reasons, you meet new and interesting people when in the arcade scene for one thing. You also have more replay value than any other kind of game out there. Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo is over 8 years old and is still played in full tournaments to this day, that just rules. Those are just SOME of the reasons I enjoy fighters so much. Balinese
i love rpgs, especially the Final Fantasy series. they offer things to do outside the main plot, funny characters that you can get to know deeply, and (lately) seriously cool graphics. plus, the music is always amazing (Nobuo Uematsu, i love you). and i still think the best story ever was FFVII, along with best villain (Sephiroth  ), coolest eyes on a main character (Aerith), and most fun character (Yuffie Kisaragi). i also like fighting games (MK: DA is my newest addiction) and sim-army (like Dynasty Warriors and ROTK). although i am a pacifist, these games really help me get out aggression that is otherwise released in less healthy ways. when i had an SNES, i really loved Chrono Trigger and FFIII, just because they gave me a lot to do and a bunch of fun things to mess with. i really dislike racing games though. i just can never get into them. they're just.... "Vroom vroom, you win the race, yay," boring.
Korey
the games i prefer to play the most are fighting games and free roaming rpg's like kingdom hearts or .hack//. i have been playing in fighting game tournaments since the age of five. i only went to small tournaments where it would only be my friends playing. i would soundly woop all of them, take the lollipop or whatever the prize was and be on my way. when i got older, my parents would take me to larger tournaments, like locally run tournaments. those tournaments stunk because there would be only four machines running and the joystick was probably broken. (oops getting off topic) the reason i like fighting games so much is that they often have a lot of replayablilty, they are (for the most part) very fast paced and easy to control (takes hammer and smashes deadly arts n64 cartridge). my all time fave fighting game would have to be marvel vs capcom 2. that game i would play until my hair fell out and the people of this planet are playing their playstation 8s or whatever. I like free roaming rpg's because the game moves much quicker if you encounter your opponents while still on the map. plus there are no turns, so you walk to your opponent, beat them down, gain exp and be on your merry way.alas, some free roaming rpg's never make it above sub-par level (ex. tales of destiny). dont get me wrong, i own final fantasy, xenosaga, and arc the lad, but im just not that kinda guy that hopes that the boss doesn't get the next turn with all of your characters with low health. i like to control my own fate and when i die. well there you have it. my favorite genres.
