Apparently this game has dropped the "2" from its title. It's due in Novemeber of this year. Namco is still developing... The Ace Combat team, specifically.
Several years after disaster was narrowly averted on Dinosaur Planet, Lylat Central Command detects a new threat spreading throughout the galaxy.

The Star Fox team is sent in to eradicate this growing menace, but what begins as a standard combat mission quickly takes a dramatic turn. Legendary team members Fox McCloud, Slippy Toad, Peppy Hare, and Falco Lombardi join forces to form the most formidable team in the history of this celebrated series: the Star Fox Armada!

Features

* Soar through space and attack an armada of strike fighters in your Arwing
* Roll over hostile terrain in a heavily-armored Landmaster Tank, or bring the hurt to the enemy on foot
* Play missions solo, join the fight with up to three other players, or engage in four-player split screen battles
* Play wingman to another player, riding on the wing of the Arwing or side of the Landmaster Tank, and blast enemies while the pilot controls the vehicle
* Powerful weapons including automatic blasters, sniper rifles, and shoulder-launched rockets
Looks better than it did last year... but that was to be expected (and hoped). Hopefully it's fun. Seems like it could be a nice arcade shooter style game.

Glad to hear that the game has improved...it was getting blasted left and right after Nintendo showed it last year lol. Hopefully, Namco can develop a game that goes above and beyond what Star Fox 64 accomplished, which would automatically make it an incredible game (Star Fox 64 is my favorite N64 game). I'm noticing a mix of on-foot combat and vehicular combat in the last screenshot, too. I'm interested to see how Namco is approaching the multiplayer mode after seeing that, heh.

The fact that this is being done by the Ace Combat team should excite any Star Fox fan.

Ace Combat is probably one of the premiere arcade shooters out there. So, I would expect Star Fox to feature some amazing flight mechanics and dogfight sequences.

In general though, the game's definitely looking a lot better than it did last year, which is a great sign. It should be yet another strong GameCube title coming out of E3.

Just saw the video, the game is looking good right now...it seems like the on-foot gameplay is getting some extra care, too, since Fox seemed to be strafing and there's a lock-on targeting system in there. I'm pretty sure that the flying elements will be up to snuff, so the on-foot gameplay was the only aspect of this game that was really worrying me for a bit, heh.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Krystal yet. For those who don't know, Krystal (the blue one in the briefing screenshot) is a character introduced in StarFox Adventures. She did board the Great Fox at the end of the game, but I thought that that wouldn't mean anything. Guess I was wrong.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but the information that Semjaza posted seems to indicate co-op play. The only fighter-combat game I've played with co-op is Jedi Starfighter for PS2, and playing that game with a friend made it a lot more fun. i can only hope that that holds true for StarFox GC, which it probably will, especially with four-player co-op action. personally, I can't wait.

You mean I have to wait until November to get my Starfox fix? I blame you, Semjaza :p

This game's the one I've been waiting for most since getting the GameCube. If it's being developed by a team with such a good reputation but still hopefully plays at least as well as the original then I should hardly think there'd be much to complain about.

My only gripe with Lylat Wars (64) was the multiplayer. It really wasn't fun, and seemed added on anly as an after-thought. But this looks simply fabulous. I'm glad they stuck with the Rare SFA-style designs- I prefer them even to Nintendo's own Fox model in Smash Bros Melee.

Judging by the snapshot of the Briefing there, I hope this'll have some kind of plot to it. Or at least a decent amount of character interaction in-game. I enjoyed listening to Falco and co arguing over their communicators. It's hardly a major gaming point, just something aesthetic I'd like to see again.

It's going to be a long six months for me, I can tell.

I have to admit, I'm impressed that Nintendo are still going ahead with the Star Fox plan after the miserable failure of Star Fox Adventures. It just comes to show that they're listening to what we want, rather than listening to themselves now.

Despite the game bearing an uncanny resemblance to Star Fox 64, there are a few new things, such as the Landmaster being able to latch onto walls, and a new female character: Krystal. I'd say it's about time a new character was introduced, the past three adventures were getting pretty repetitive, maybe it'll help.

Overall, my hopes are high, but I can't help worrying about the third person mode. Namco have been there before, and I think its something both them and Nintendo would like to forget. I can only hope they can save themselves from it this time round, even if it's just a small 'spin-off'.

Not much has been said regarding story yet, just mainly game play and what-knot, but so far it seems promising.

The only thing I'd say about this is that Rare were the ones who developed SFA. The fact that the game turned out so awfully really had nothing to do with Nintendo. Nintendo's only involvement related to actually applying the Star Fox license to the title (perhaps they felt that Dinosaur Planet didn't have enough pulling power on its own, who knows).

In any case, the flight portions of this game should be awesome. If you've played Ace Combat at all, you'll know how great those games were.

In regard to third person mode...all you have to do is read impressions. So far most people are quite happy with it, though it does require some tweaking. But that's natural for an unfinished game.

It should also be noted that Star Fox Adventures sold pretty damn well. That's really all that matters when a continuation of a franchise is considered.

In any case, this game is more of a return to form for the series in most ways. I'm far more interested in this than I would be in another SFA style game, even if one somehow turned out great.
