Brasil Posted May 13, 2004 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Interesting announcement, to say the least. Some parts of the Hands-On I found particularly noteworthy;
In an interesting twist, all four players will share the same jumbo-capacity life bar, so the weakest link in a team will likely take some real-world lumps if he or she ends up getting everybody killed.
When bringing back the 4-player capabilities, why use a singular life bar? I mean, Hyperstone Heist? Turtles in Time? Even the old TMNT arcade game had separate lifebars for each turtle. I don't know. Just seems "iffy."
Speaking of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game, it is in fact unlockable in TMNT 2.
Now this is more like it! :D Gang-bang, it seems. Looks like player synchronization is going to be heavily required. Donatello looks a bit screwed here. Four players. Note the "Press Start" tabs up top, corresponding to each turtle. Ninja Turtle Gaiden? Charles Posted May 13, 2004 Share Posted May 13, 2004 I heard about this a couple days ago, and the only interest I had was in the unlockable arcade game. Because I already have the MAME version, it probably won't be a selling point for me though. In addition to that, the four player mode is a welcome addition (it should have been included in the first). The idea of sharing a life bar is interesting, but if there's online play, then it's not something I'm sure I would welcome. That aside, my biggest problem with these new TMNT games is the lack of personality. I briefly played the first one and it just wasn't very fun. You're restricted to barren, boxed-in areas fighting hordes of lame enemies. The visuals in these images you've posted don't seem to offer any changes in those areas. What a drab landscape. :sleep: Some of the models look terrible also, like that space ship and the enemy in the first picture. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Bebop Posted May 13, 2004 Share Posted May 13, 2004 The first one was a bit naf i thought. It didnt get very good reviews so I imagine it didnt sell well. But yet theres a sequel. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Jagan Posted May 13, 2004 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Some of my questions are: 1. Will Casey Jones, Master Splinter be playable with the turtles? 2. What else is unlockable? 3. A big question for my and my demons: Can we play as the foot, Pur[ple Dragons, or the Mob or any villain? Other than that, looks like a pretty fun game, but the graphics don't look too inviting. Semjaza Posted May 13, 2004 Share Posted May 13, 2004 The original game did sell pretty well. If it didn't, Konami wouldn't bother with a sequel. This game already has one good thing going for it: four players. The original only allowed two, which made absolutely no sense considering there are four turtles. It's the perfect game to take advantage of that. Konami really dropped the ball there, I think. I think it's cool that TMNT: The Arcade Game is being included. The great thing about Konami heading up the new TMNT games is that they have full control over all the past ones as well. I'd love to see some of their other old TMNT games make appearances. In terms of the actual game, I don't know. The original was not all that exciting. The areas were extremely dull and a lot of the enemy designs were incredibly generic. The boss fights were an improvement, but not enough for the game to really grab me. I have some hope, I suppose. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest ScirosDarkblade Posted May 13, 2004 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Seriously, Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu was a better game than the latest TNMT. It's sad but it's true. I'm glad this one is including 4-player, but really I still play 2-player with my brother more often than anything else, so it doesn't matter all that much for me. The graphics still look cruddy, and there's no word yet on the other improvements that the game needed. I mean, what the heck was up with having to unlock moves for each turtle separately? And what was up with enemies spawning in right in front of your face? It was soooo lame... I might rent the game sometime, but I doubt I'll buy it. BlueYoshi Posted May 13, 2004 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Not much has been said about this game, but I gather that it's aimed towards a younger audience judging by its overall look (which I think is very much lacking detail). However, I can't see how this justifies the 'shared life-bar'. It doesn't appeal to me how the little kiddies who'd be interested would have the mind to make snap decisions, such as conserve energy or team tactics... seems iffy. I hope Konami do understand that they'd actually have to make it work, which means decent camera angles, be able to toggle friendly fire, and of course: glitch-free. But I can see where they're coming from; there aren't really many beat 'em ups around for the new generation consoles, especially not four-player ones. Konami are hoping to generically make something new within the genre--not a bad try, but I don't think it will work out as planned, particularly amongst more mature gamers. Another thing that caught my eye: The TMNT series never was intended to be serious, poor fight-scenes and cheesy one liners helped achieve this, heh, though adding a comical factor to the game is a good move, hence the "BOOM!!". Those parents wanting to buy this game for their children will be able to rest assured that what their children will be playing is a sweet and friendly game, and won't live up to the content of GTA. The harsh truth then comes to question: If kids didn't play this game, then who would? I know I wouldn't. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yes, the early 90's/late 80's series were plauged by such things as crappy fights and horrible attempts at comedy, but the new series is not only cool, it's based on the Mirage comic! :D The original game could have been better if you could block and have several diffrent types of attack strings rather than weak and strong. Unlockable moves and cool counters like the damn LOTR games... only this time with some cool style and flashy visuals. And yes, the enviorments and enemies were drab. Hopefully they fix that with this one. I rented and beat the first game in about 4 hours... I might buy this one if they do it well. 4-players sounds really cool though. RealHalfBreed Posted May 23, 2004 Share Posted May 23, 2004 I hope it's way better than the first one. Me and my friends were really disappointed when we found out that it was only a 2-player. The graphics are awesome in how it's cell shaded like XIII and DBZ Budokai 2. I love the new show, I agree it's better than the first one since this Shredder is a complete badass instead of a coward always blaming Bebop and Rocksteady(yes, I still remember the names lol). Maybe they're doing like DJ Vendetta, in terms of the 1st one had great graphics and a storyline, but not a very interactive one and a weak multi-player selection whereas the 2nd one Def Jam: Fight For Mew York will have a story mode 3 times longer, Create-A-Player, more multi-player options, and even better graphics. Konami probably had a lot of ideas, but didn't get to use them in the 1st one due to shipment time and are putting them in the 2nd installment. It's cool that the arcade version is unlockable. I can sort of understand the one life bar for all, since me and my friends are always using teamwork in mulitplayer games, but I agree with all of you in the things that you all have said.
