Onix
Anyone else a big fan of the new band, Jet? You know, "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" and "Cold Hard *****." Yeah, you know. And you also know you like it. Do not deny it. I bought the CD, and it's...different than most of my CDs. My collection includes Linkin Park, The Offspring, and Nickelback...the closest thing I had to it is Jimmy Eat World. But still, it's filled with much greatness (and yes, I realize that that's grammatically incorrect. Bite me.) Anyway, just here to praise the Australian Great-ness that is Jet. And I'd just like to say I'm ROYALLY PISSED OFF THAT I MISSED END-SESSION 93!...for those of you not in Seattle, End-Sessions are live concerts by various bands...and what was #93? Jet, of course. And I ******* missed it! GAHH! -ULX, frothing at the mouth
anime_guy
Ah yes, Jet, I like them ^_^ Jet is different from most things I like to listen too...like punk, and Linkin Park, SOAD, Mudvayne, Static-X but i love Jet. {P.S. Haven't posted in a while, but I'm here :-D}
Semjaza
Personally, I think Jet is one of the most derivitive rock bands around right now. That's just my opinion and I doubt most people agree with me considering Jet's success. In terms of Australian artists, I'd rather listen to the infinitely more talented/important Nick Cave or You Am I. They've been around a decent amount of time by comparison, though. Arcadia
I'd have to say that my brother plays guitar better than these guys do. If you know the basic cords, you can play their songs. There really isn't a whole lot to the music besides that. Just a few more guys getting their fifteen minutes. Don't get me wrong, though. I've got the JET CD and I love it, for the most part. It's fun music to dance around to while you're, say, cleaning, or getting ready to go out, or something like that. There's a lot of energy to it, which is always nice.

I don't really know much of their stuff, but Are You Gonna Be My Girl is most cool song. I've listened to it twice or so, but our band is in the middle of working out a cover of it. Totally agree with Arcadia in the fact that the guitar part is like an Emo-Fest(not that I'm dissing emo... it's just very easy guitar music) and I can't run a tamborine to save my life... plus the song is so blinking out of my range at the chorus (they wonder why I can't get it down), but besides that the song is great, it's an awesome change of pace from the norm these days. It's almost like an old classical rock song exept... new...

Really, they're not much to boast about. As my friend Brenton puts it, they're riding the 'rock revival'. On top of that they sound just a bit to similar to The Rolling Stone's to me. I saw them at Big Day Out this year, and I have to give them this, they know how to put on a show. They worked the crowd like pros (and actually stopped singing at one point so the crowd could do it for them 0-0). ~CrH~
Xander Harris
Yeah, this is a cool group... I heard one of their songs on the radio the other day and liked it, then matched it up with the group when the music video came on VH1 today. Don't really know the lyrics to the song... I just like the way it sounds.
Amorphous
I have to agree with Samjaza on this one. They really are derivative and sure there one song is catchy; "Are You Gonna Be My Girl". But it is just a song that.. has nothing new to it, though it's still catchy. I though can listen to Jet without wanting break my radio. But they're not much in my own opinion even with their success and for Australian bands.. I only like one band that's been derived from that area and that would be Nazxul, which I've barely listened too. As well no-one here would know of this band either unless they were or are heavily into "Black Metal" or otherwise just by chance they might know. So yeah anyways, Jet is just mediocre really.
Rain
I like Jet, but it annoys me when people compare them to ACDC and such. When a band is raved about like that, they're never as good as you expect them to be. But they're good to listen to anyway. I wish I'd seen them at the Big Day Out festival, but they were on at the same time as the Dandy Warhols. I'll see Jet another year. I digress. It's sad that you guys in America probably won't hear the majority of the great Australian music that's around right now.
JC Goodwin
Ive heard jet and was like what the *#?! is this? I saw the video on kerrang and thought i had been transported back in to the old days. But hen i relised i was just viewing another crappy indie rock band with their stupid long side burns and looking like tramps man  What is it with this new rock revival. I mean bands like Jet, Kings of Leon and The Vines really do my head in. They make me want to jam a no 2 pencil in to my ear

The Harlequin
On the subject of Jet being less than original, I recommend we listen to Are You Gonna Be My Girl, then have a bit of a flashback to Iggy Pop's Lust for Life. Of course, to be fair, Iggy Pop did rip that off a group of Cubans, but that's digressing. Personally, bands like Jet, The Vines, The Strokes, The Hives, The White Stripes (hell, they've all got idiotic names for god's sake) and the rest of this new age "dirty rock" genre simply aggravate me. It's like listening to a bad pub cover band writing their own songs, and I swear more a couple of the solos are done on pedals while strumming a single chord. I stand by the fact that Got You On My Mind (Powderfinger) should have gotten Triple J Hottest 100's number 1. There's just no musical talent present in Jet or the twenty or so identical bands out there.
Heaven's Cloud
Eh, even though I am not the biggest fan of Jet and even though I wish I had not wasted my money on a Kings of Leon cd, I am glad that they are having some success on the pop charts. It is nice to see someone that actually writes their own music get some recognition again (even if I am not the biggest fan). My biggest issue with those bands is that I can hear songs with very similar, yet better, music and much better lyrics by throwing any old AC/DC album into my CD player or turning on a radio station that frequents Led Zeppelin. Hopefully bands like Jet will help to get people interested in some of those older, better bands.
Inari
Even though they aren't one of my absolute favorites, Jet still rocks. Their lyrics are really catchy. I just remember one day in physics when my whole class burst out into "Are You Gonna Be My Girl." Everyone had it practically memorized. It was hilarious! Their music is simple, yet intriguing. I love "Cold Hard B****" because of the provocative lines. I probably won't buy their CD, but I always crank up the radio when they come on. TOTALIMMORTAL
It's definitely true that Australia is home to many great bands. The greatest example of this would of course have to be.....AC/DC!!!!

I have grown up with them, and listened to at least one of their songs almost daily for the past 15 years (commercial radio stations have no originality, I'm sure) and, to be honest, they aren't exactly that great. There is plenty of other bands in Australia that could give them a run for their money. I mean, for the last twenty/thirty years, they have been following the same formula, and it gets old. For Christ sake, in Australia, there home country, they have been relegated to Classic Rock stations. But I digress. Basically, what I am trying to say is don't glorify ACDC so much, when there is so much more Australian talent that is deserving of your accolade. Look up The Butterfly Effect, or The Tenants, or even Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Just don't set ACDC as the standard for Australian music... In every other country around the world they're considered "classic rock". US bands that haven't been in their heydey for well over a decade or so make it onto our classic rock stations, regardless of any new material (Van Halen for example). Just makes sense to me lol. Juu
Jet's a fun band, but 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl' gets annoying just the second time I hear it in a day, same deal with 'Cold Hard B****' and 'Take it or Leave it'. ...And I don't know what the other songs I downloaded are called, because they all sound terribly alike and it's hard for me to tell which is playing at the time. But then again, I haven't been into rock very much for the past year now. Last year, I would've liked Jet a lot, but I can't listen to a song where the lead singer screams the whole time more than once, otherwise I never want to hear it again.
