The Princess Bride

Awesome. Just awesome. I had the pleasure of watching this Rob Reiner movie a few nights ago. You think it's a chick flick based on the premise and advertisements, but it's anything but a chick flick, heh. The level of satire in it rivals Reiner's This Is Spinal Tap, and the way the characters poke fun at themselves through the fight scenes and dialogue is hilarious! It's just a fantastic movie, and has something for all ages, I think.

Anyone else feel the same way? Anyone feel differently? Though, I can't imagine why someone wouldn't like this movie. But yes. Thoughts?

Yeah, the "Princess Bride" is a classic. "You killed my brother. Prepare to die." Classic line. The bit with the poison is nice too, and all the actors and actresses are so charismatic. The boy and his grandfather as narrator is ingenious. If you want a similar movie, go see "Ella Enchanted". I thought it had a similar feel to "The Princess Bride".

The Princess Bride is one of my all time favourite movie. It just has everything and the love story is grest. Oh Xander the lines is "My name is Indgo Montoya (not postive on the spelling of the name). You killed my father, prepare to die." I haven't seen Ella Enchanted yet but i loved the book. But the way the film was created and how the storyline flowed was great. The ending song is actually mine nad my bf's songs. But if you anyone hasn't seen it yet, they should because this is great.

Edit: Thank you for correcting me Queen Asuka. Couldn't place the name when i had eight children screaming, they want a cookie.

I love the Princess Bride. It has been one of my favorite movies from when it first came out. The characters are so colorful and unique. Like Spinal Tap you just end up loving the characters for their strange little (or big) quirks. I can quote the entire movie...that is how many times I have seen it.

For me it was really strange to see Christopher Guest as the 6 fingered man and see him as Nigel in Spinal Tap. He is such a good actor. I didn't even realize it was him in both roles until just a few years ago! The casting of Cary Elwes as Wesley is perfect. I had the biggest crush on him after I saw that movie. "As you wish"...that line just melts my heart!

Excellent storyline, great acting, a little bit of everything for everyone to enjoy.

Now I have a question for all you fans. Do you hold your breath when Wesley jumps in the lighting sand after Buttercup? I find myself doing that everytime I see that scene!

Actually, from what I gather by watching the movie with the captions turned on, his name is Inigo Montoya. I THINK. Or Enigo. Or something stupid to that sort.

I love this movie, as well. I wish I owned it, but it comes on TV enough to be able to catch and watch. I loved that the girl's name was Buttercup. She was just too cute. And I like when the guy fell down the hill and he's all like "As...You...Wish..." That has to be THE catchphrase of the movie, in my opinion. It' sjust one of those movies that's fun to watch, heh.

I love this movie! Although, I'm a bit sad becuase I lost my copy of the tape :(

All the characters are wonderful ^^ . Well, maybe not Prince Humperdinck. Inigo Montoya is cool, but I gotta say that my favorite character is Count Vessili, "Inconcievable!"

Hehe...and how about them ROUS's [Rodents of Unsual Sizes]? Nasty critters.
"You killed my brother. Prepare to die." Classic line.
Blasphemy! It's

'ello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

Trust me on this one, guys. ;)

I think I first watched The Princess Bride when I was in seventh grade. I can't believe I survived without it for the first twelve years of my life. I love the characters, I love the setting, I love the dialogue, the story, the music, and any other aspect of it that I might have conceivably missed.

I love this movie. I adore this movie. I'm addicted to this movie. I've seen it more times than I can possibly count, I own it on DVD and video, as well as a copy of the book. (Which is also wonderful, especially if you've watched the movie so many times that you've got it memorized. It's got some great backstory--you find out all about how/why Count Rugen killed Domingo (Inigo's father), as well as some other great commentary.

Interestingly, some of the grandfather/kid interaction is in the book, too. She does not get eaten by the eels at this point, for example. (Although in the book, I believe they were sharks. This is one of the instances where the movie was better. I mean, come on--if you're going to create a land of fairy tale, which would you rather have: sharks, or shrieking eels?)

Westley is quite awesome. The swordfight between him and Inigo is just wonderful. (If you don't understand what the two of them are talking about toward the beginning--I know I never caught any of it until I read the book about a year after I first saw the movie--they're naming fencing styles and talking about the uses of each one. One is better for rocky terrain, etc.)

"You are wonderful."

"Thank you. I've worked hard to become so."

"I admit it, you are better than I am."

"Then why are you smiling?"

"Because I know something you don't know."

"And what's that?"

"I am not left-handed!"

.....

"There's something I should tell you.

"Tell me."
"I'm not left-handed, either."
I get so caught up in this movie, it's pathetic. I swear, I get an adrenaline rush just by watching Inigo's swordfights. And don't even get me started on Vizzini's Iocaine sequence. I typed the whole thing out on myO once, heh.

*happy grin*

(scene where the masked man is climibing the rope, chasing after Vinzinni, Inigo, Fezzik and Buttercup. Vizinni cuts the rope, and peering over, they see the masked man still hanging onto the ledge)
"He's got very good arms." - Inigo
"He didn't fall! Inconcievable!" - Vinzinni
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. . ." - Inigo Montoya

I used to sit at work with my buddy Jay. We would pass the time (LONG 10hr shifts) by qouting this movie. . It was a great way to spend time, I mean, everything about this movie just makes you laugh!

The whole scene with Billy Crystal and Carol Kane. . . it was just brilliant!

Inigo Montoya was just the best part of the movie. . He had some of the best lines, and was just a riot to watch through the whole movie.

"I am waiting for you Vizzini! You told me to go back to the beginning, so I have. This is where I am, and this is where I'll stay. I will not be moved." - Inigo
"Ho there!" - Angry Brute
"I do not budge. Keep your ho there." - Inigo

I could go on for hours. . I am almost ashamed that I don't have this movie. . I don't know why, I just never remember to get it!. . maybe because I have almost the whole movie memorized, I don't see a reason to? . . *shrug*

Now I really feel deprived because The Princess Bride is one of those movies I'd always meant to see, but for some reason something always comes up that prevents me from doing so. Chalk it up to stupid, sitcom-esque happenings around the house.

By the way, I clicked the link Sara provided and got a nice surprise when I was referred to as the person "...with the long name I could never pronounce, hm." Heh. Every time I think I've purged my old name from the world forever, I always get some reminder of it :p

*twitches* I think I'm the only one on earth who doesn't like the Princess Bride. I did not find it funny at all...the only thing that made me laugh was the ROUS.

Like, seriously. I hate this movie. O_o. My friend kept on calling me insane that I haven't watched this movie before and they forced me to watch and I fell asleep at NINE O' CLOCK because I thought the movie was so boring. I was sitting there the whole time asking my friend when the movie was going to end. I mean...*fidgets*

I need to prepare to get attacked by millions of people.

Who is going to yell at you? You like your own stuff! That's a good thing, there isn't anything wrong with that.

Now if you said you hated Star Wars. . (lol, just messing around!). .

Anyways, I know some people who don't really like the movie either. They admit that they don't hate it, just think it gets boring at some parts. . It's all good Maladjusted!

I think I can safely say that Sara has more of the movie lines memorized than I do, but I could hold my own pretty well. The Princess Bride is definitely one of my favorite movies - it's got witty dialogue, true love, giant rats, pirates, sword fighting, a creepy old lady that yells "Boo, hiss," eels, giants, Fred Savage (I loved the Wonder Years - so sue me), people rolling down hills, and a man with six fingers... it's just perfect!

The Iocaine scene is probably one of my favorites in the movie. I actually used that as a monologue once for a theatre assignment. But picking favorites out of that movie is hard because the entire thing is just brilliant to me. Brilliant, I say!
