Guest Spike88
Ok I'm a huge fan of Dragons and fantasy books like the Lord of the Rings and others. One of my favorite series of books is the "Drgon Riders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey" I think that's how you spell it anyways. I love them and I was wondering if there was anyone out there who felt the same way. So who likes Dragon books and Fantasy middle age type stories. One I just want to talk to people about some great books that I have read Like "Dragon Drums" and "Ruth the White Dragon" and I also want to find a new series and I want some suggestions. GIve me some feed back people
GuyYouMetOnline
Okay, that post was 100% pointless. How about saying why you like the book? If you like dragons, than you absolutly have to read Marjorie B. Kellogg's The Dragon Quartet books. There are four of them (obviously0, and they are, in order from book 1 to book 4, The Book of Earth, The Book of Water, The Book of Fire, and The Book of Air. I like those books for several reasons. For one thing, there's an entertaining plot. A lot of mystery, too (You don't learn what the dragons are supposed to do until the end of book 4). Of course, the books wouldn't be anywhere near as good without the great characters. Lady Erde von Alte, N'doch N'daji, Paia, and
Gerrasch
are the main human characters, and they're all well-developed and believable. N'doch and
Gerrasch
are my favorites. The dragons are well-done, too. Earth is very child-like at first, although he matures quite a bit during the story, Water is, well, Water, and Fire is full of himself (I bet you can guess the fourth dragon's name). THere's also an excellent supporting cast, including the dragon-obsessed Hal Engle, the seemingly psychotic Fra Guill, Baron Kothen, Erde's father Joseph vol Alte, Rose, Rainer, Papa Dja, Kenzo Baraga, and Leif Cauldwell, to name a few (Four books, each being set mainly in a different time period, equals a large supporting cast). Basically, you need to read these books, because they're awesome.
Lady Asphyxia
Takuya, you're right. That was a completely pointless post, and it has now been deleted, and I will remind everyone in general that in these types of threads, you do need to say something other than that you like a book. As for suggestions about books...the only ones I've read with Dragons in them are the...Elven Blood [Consists of Elven Blood, Elven Bane, and Elven...something, heh.] books [Anyone know the title of the series? I've completely forgotten.]. They aren't actually centered around dragons, but the main character grows up with Dragons, which is cool, heh. ^_^" I didn't actually end up finishing the series, unfortunately. I'll have to check them out of my library and re-read them, I think.
Guest Mr Mattinson
Have you read Eragon by Christopher Paolini? It is an extremly good read and if you like the Dragon riders of Pern you should read this!
PrinceGranger
If we're going to talk Dragons someone has to mention Dungeons and Dragons, or more precisely Dragonlance. Dragon in both titles after all. The Chronicle series (Dragons of Autumn Twilight or something, Dragons of Winter's something, and Dragons of Spring something) is the place to start when you're talking Dragonlance, and I'd recommend it personally, had a good time with the books and it opened up a whole world/series where you can spend some time if you want. Worth pointing out though that all though Dragons are a huge part of these books I wouldn't go so far as to say they are Dragon books. I heard of a really good series whose name escapes me, the covers featured mean riding dragons like horses, they fought with big swords... anyway, vague description i know but if anyone knows what i'm talking about please hollar. Forgotten Realms has some of the best Dragon/Human fights I've read. Particularlly the trilliogy by R.A. Salvatore starring the famous Drizz't D'Urden. The Crystal Shard is the first in that series. Redemption
I agree. I have most of the Dragonlance series and there are very good for dragon-lovers. For fantasy, try the Sword of Truth series. They may be a bit full on but they are an excellent read. I'm reading the fourth (there's about 8 in the series) ad I'm still hooked. I have a heap of dragon books at home, so if you ever want to know any more, just PM me.
Urzu 07
Look up a D&D book called the Draconomicon it's got all you need to know about dragons. Well, all I need to know since I play twice a week. I don't really care about dragons outside of D&D. (still it has some really cool stuff)
StarSword17
*jumps up and down like a excited puppy* Oh god, yes I love Dragonriders of Pern! Its been my absolute favorite since I was kid. I actually RPG with DRoP, its quite fun, I love my greenrider, she's just rockin' honkin awesome. Then again I enjoy my candidate and bronze rider too, but my green rider and her dragon just outright kick butt :animesmil . Anyway, also another really good dragon series I would recommend to anyone is the Dragonlord books by Joanne Bertin. Its a really awesome take on dragons, human, and what happens when half-dragon, half-humans are born. Its interesting and they are great, just wish Bertin would publish the third book already, I've been waiting for almost five years now for it :animecry: .
