Well, I've gotten hooked on Champloo. One of my favorite parts is the opening. Does anyone know where I can d/l the song or, even better, d/l a movie of it?
I've been addicted to it as well. You might want to start looking at a Movie place like Suncoast. They have a lot of choices of the music and such. Other wise search the internet.

Remember, anime-related games should be discussed in Play It. Thanks.

I noticed that Adult Swim is starting from the beginning again tonight--just how far have they gotten in the series? Are they taking a break, or is it already finished?

Either way, I recently breezed through volume 4. Now we're getting to the good stuff! Every single one of the episodes on this disc is entertaining and eminently re-watchable. Also, two of my favorite supporting characters are featured (in episodes 15 & 16, respectively): the
secret police
lady, also known as Yatsuya, and Jin's vengeful-because-he-was-jilted boyfriend, Yukimaru. Actually, I'm only halfway kidding. :animesmil

Champloo really gets the blood going. There was an excellent mixture of dramatic tension and comedy in these episodes, too--from the stunning sequence with the enka song at the end of episode 14, to Yatsuya's hysterically skillful manipulation of Mugen, to the usual bouts of ***-kicking. In honesty, I enjoyed revisiting this part of the show a lot more than I had thought I would. I don't envy those who will have to wait out the weeks between volume 4 and volume 5, though. It was pretty devious of Geneon to break up the two-parter spanning episodes 16 & 17.

I'm still amused by the fact that Mugen is arguably the most spiritual member of the cast. I mean, he's the only person who we get to see
communing with shinigami... or, well, whoever those guys are supposed to be.
Samurai Champloo is one of my favorite samurai anime. I never knew I could find another samurai anime that I liked as much as Ruroken. As I watched the first episode on Ault Swim the night it aired I was simply blown away. I couldn't find the right words to describe the show. The art is beautiful, and the sword scenes are just fluid. Samurai Champloo is one the top of my anime list.

I LOVE SAMURAI CHAMPLOO!! It's one of my fav animes. I like cowboy Bebop too. But this is a complete upgrade. Even though I hate hip- hop I still watch samurai Champloo. It's a really funny show. Besides I've already seen all the episodes of Cowboy Bebop who knows how many times. I've seen the movie too. My fav samurai Champloo character is Mugen. He's the one that make watching the series more interesting. I like the fact that the voice actor who played Spike Spiegel in cowboy Bebop now plays Mugen of Samurai Champloo. Over all Samurai Champloo is in my top 10 fav animes. I know it's alittle weird but I have a sort of crush on Mugen. :animeblus I also act like him around my friends. :animesmil

Jin would win.

Mugen's style is flashier, but I believe that Jin is the stronger of the two, if only by a little. I'm not just saying this as a Jin fan, because I really like both characters. However,
based on the scanty evidence which is provided by the series, I'm willing to argue that Jin would eventually come out on top. Jin is the one chosen by the scriptwriters to defeat Kariya, who is without a doubt the strongest opponent in the series. Does this prove anything? Not necessarily; maybe Mugen could have done it too. Nevertheless, I think it's significant that Jin ended up being the one to take him down.

I could swear Mugen said something in the final episode that's about as close to an acknowledgment or [strike]confession[/strike] concession as a character after his mold would ever get,
but unfortunately I don't remember whether the line was actually all that conclusive.

EDIT: Whoops, please excuse the Freudian slip. :animeswea

The short answer:
No, although Watanabe tries to fake the viewer out a couple of times.
The slightly longer answer:
There are a couple instances in the series, particularly during the final few episodes, when it becomes difficult to suspend your disbelief. I think the writers made the right decision to leave all the main characters alive, and I could buy into the fact that Mugen survived that ridiculous explosion.

Anyway, though, your source is somewhat correct in that Jin is the one who (falsely) appears to die most often... if I remember correctly. However, Mugen is the one whose survival ends up looking more far-fetched and improbable.
I have too agree and disagree with you on that one. Yes Jin is the more Disaplined of the two, but Jin fights with a style that has a form and for that he maybe restricted by that form, for example if I get into a fight and I know the person has studied Tae Kwon Do then I know waht to expect of him and I can predict his moves, although I would leave some distance in case a surprise may arrise. The same could be said about Jin, since he fights with a peticular style it may be easier to predict his moves giving Mugen an advantage. Mugen on the other hand has more of a expect the unexpected. Mugen is not bound by honor like Jin is nor by rules.I think a match like that could go either way though. ;)

A lot can make a difference in a fight, not just strengh and skill alone. Emotions can determine the outcome of a duel. Jin tends to keep his emotions out of is battles most of the time...so advantage for him. Mugen on the other hand tends to get angery and tends to be rash about things leaving him to get angry and possible get blinded by his angery...Disadvantage him.,but those emotions can push a person to do incredable things and get your adrenaline running. ;)

what do you think?

:animesigh I am not that sure but I would have to say Jin cuz well he's a really calm and cool guy. :animesmil Don't get me wrong Mugen is cool too but loses his temper and that is not the way of the samurai  and lose out of emotion itself. just like inuyasha and sesshomaru. Sesshomaru is most definatly a better fighter than Inuyasha come on without his daddy's sword he's toast!I Love Sesshomaru! :animesmile

Although I stand by my earlier post (*waves Jin flag*), all of the overt evidence in the show points toward a draw, as you suggested. I will say that I don't think Mugen's unpredictability would offer him an edge, though. In their earlier fights, his stunts just ended up being part of the smooth back-and-forth of it all. There isn't much he could do to really shock Jin--short of crotch-grabbing, a la Kambei from Samurai 7. (There'd be another great set of match-ups: Jin or Mugen versus Kambei or Kyuuzo.)

Jin himself isn't totally averse to using semi-dirty tricks, if I remember correctly. I can't cite specific examples off the top of my head. Then again, I think it would be much less likely for him to do that kind of thing in a fight with Mugen (who he respects) than in a fight with a bunch of random goons.

MUGEN! i think his fighting style is so his own that he could beat Jin. Jin studied at a dojo while Mugen just kinda does his own things but he's strong!!!! SO MY VOTE IS MUGEN!!!!!

I merged your two consecutive replies. In the future, please don't double-post. Thanks.

I love this anime! I like the fact the Fuu isn't a cry baby.....all the time! She has held own and stood up for herself. Though I would like for someone to help me clear something up! In Episode 24 when
Jin and fuu are standing by the river and Jin say: "If I..." an Fuu say: "I just...don't want to think about that...because Mugen is..." And they hug and what not, and we find out mugen is awake and hears the convo.
Then in episode 25
when Jin tells Mugen to go and take care of Fuu and you recall the scene in episode 24 at the river
Does it have anything to do with which she cares about?! I know I do tend to get caught up in the romantic banters the are often a underlying theme or perhaps plot is a better word.
I rarely download raws (seeing how as I know almost no Japanese). Yet I've been anticipating Samuari Champloo for so many months that I couldn't resist watching episode 1 as soon as possible, even without being able to understand the dialogue. Anyway, since this show is bound to be insanely popular, I'm sure someone will sub it pretty soon.

Shinichiro Watanabe has become one of my personal gods, heh. I worked my way through Cowboy Bebop once or twice, and I appreciated it for what it is--a high-quality anime that I enjoy watching but just don't love. Samurai Champloo, on the other hand, seems to be right up my alley.

The first episode alone contains one of the best anime swordfights that I have ever come across. It's better than those seen in the last arc of Peacemaker, better than Kenshin's first duel with Saitou, possibly even better than all of the amazing battles that motivated me to buy the Samurai X OVAs. I can't even find the words to express my esctacy.

Visually and aurally, Samurai Champloo is (as expected) very, very cool. The scene transitions are particularly innovative, and the show's animation just about reeks of style. This series is to hip-hop as Cowboy Bebop is to jazz--it owes much of its unique atmosphere to its daring soundtrack. I used the word "daring" because most people simply wouldn't think of combining a historical action-drama with... well, hip-hop, which is one of the most modern genres of music in existence.

I loved how
the second-to-last frame said "The End," and was followed shortly by "Psyche! To be continued."
That amused me quite a bit. ^_^

i know this was done before but it apparently wasn't done right so i figured i would do it here but there's rules that are in the original but basically tell ur character or characters if u have more than one and tell why in more than one or two words and don't start this i agree or dissagree bull crud or i will go mortal kombat on u and commit a cyber fatality.

1.fuu- i know what ur thinking gay right but come on i know there's a junk load of u out there that think it's ridiculous how she eats like a maniac gets fat and everybody notices she's fat and then she loses the weight in like an hour it's just funny to me. man if my metabolism was that good.

2.the squirrel in in fuu's shirt (i forget it's name) what is not too love about this thing man it saves fuu from more bad guys than mugen and gene probably do. wait just remembered it's name i think it was under garment squirrel with the super power of bite.

3. gene- for obvious reason he just kicks butt and he's the quite type who doesn't use his sword unless he has too he's just a beast when it comes to fighting. he's also one of my favorites because he's a pimp with the ladies.

4.the gay german dude or at least i think he was german- this guy was ridiculous i thought he was going to try to get with fuu and then u find out he's gay and in the end he mugen had some pretty funny jokes about him so he added humor tho the episode.

5.mugen- last on my list because this is where he belongs in my best for last spot and he earned this spot because he has a ridiculous fighting style and as gene always tells him it's unorthodox and he doesn't understand why he isn't dead yet and i'm wondering the same thing. his attitude is sweet also it's just ridiculous how much of a bada** he is.

and that concludes another post of darkruler's top 5

Hate to do this to you Darkruler, but I had to move your thread.
Remember that if we have an official thread for an Anime already, discussion about a specific anime should be in that thread. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. ;)

My favourite Samurai Champloo character was ALWAYS Jin. I always found the calm, cool, stoic to be more impressive than the hot headed braggart. Jin shows this stoicism better than anyone else, in my opinion. Even in the heat of battle he's poised.

Of course, if Jin was a robot, he wouldn't be interesting. Jin's does have a human side. And we see this whenever he visits prostitutes, or in that episode that he
fell in love
. If there was any Champloo character I would be, it would be Jin.
