Pokemon Colisseum Questions

I'm wondering from anyone that has the game, do you need Ruby or Sapphire to play all of Colisseum? Work has been really scarse this month, I'll have enough to get either Ruby or Sapphire and borrow my friends GBA or Colisseum. I mainly wanna play the RPG mode. Which do you think I should do, get Ruby or Sapphire and borrow my friends GBA until I have enough money to get my own GBA SP and Colisseum next month or the other way around and get Colisseum now and get the GBA SP and Ruby & Sapphre next month?

If I were you, I'd get Pokemon Colloseum, Pokemon Sapphire, and Pokemon Leaf Green (once that comes out). Colloseum can use both games, and I think you'll get more play out of it if you have both GBA games. Of course, that does get pricey.

I only have Pokemon Yellow and Pokemon Stadium. But I was really glad I had Yellow, because not only could I make a much stronger team than the "rental pkmn" the N64 game had, but I could have my special Yellow Pikachu learn Surf. Which he did, but then some stupid girl erased my killer file. So I've never played it again.

Oh, hah. I'm the wrong person to ask that, really. I've done no research into the recent Pokemon games. I don't like the color red that much is why I wouldn't go with Ruby, haha.

But really, it depends on where the most powerful Pokemon are, or which one has better uniques. That should really be the way to choose them. ...Looking at a huge site on the two games (http://www.wraith10.megadoomer.com/pokemonrs/index.htm), they seem to be about on even ground, and it's just about what "types" of pkmn you prefer.

Hi. ive played coloseum a bit and i enjoyed the game just fine without saphire or ruby. i have saphire but not a GCN link thing but anyway... if you just want to play the RPG part then i don't think you can put your R/S pokemon in that mode. just the second player functions use the GBA games... i could be wrong but in RPG mode you have to steel pokemon, is the whole part of the game, to steel and purify the shadow pokemon! so if you just want to play by your self just play RPG mode if you want to play with friends then buy and link-up Ruby or Saphire but it sounds like you don't really need them right now...

i hope that confusing lecture helped! ~_^

if you need any more help in a less confusing way just PM me because i can look at a guide book for you!

later

It really depends on what modes you wish to play.

If you just want to battle, it's best to own one of the GBA Pokemon games (it won't read the older ones for some reason). You can use a set of Pokemon the game gives you if you wish, but obviously they're nothing special by comparison.

Picking between Ruby and Sapphire is up to you. They're the same games more or less, just with some different Pokemon to catch. I wouldn't even worry about that.

The Story Mode that Julias Peach mentioned does involve stealing Pokemon, although the game refers to it as "snatching". You don't catch Pokemon normally in this mode because they're not found in the wild in the area the game takes place. You have to use Pokeballs to snatch Pokemon away from other people you're dueling. However, you can only snatch "shadow" Pokemon. After you snatch them you need to call them during battle to "open their hearts" and make them get rid of all that darkness. It sounds odd, but it's not bad in practice.

Anyway, you don't really need the GBA games to fully enjoy the game, but they do help for the battle modes.
