Fan Art Moderators: Now Recruiting

Recommended Posts

As we're moving our fan art site to a predominantly auto-submission system, I'm going to need a few people to help moderate so that art is categorized in the right place, nothing inappropriate is uploaded, and titles are spelled correctly :). I'd like 4-5 people preferably for this.

Moderators will be able to delete artwork, edit artwork titles/captions/categories, and even freeze the artist if they're spamming.

This is a huge and valuable responsibility, as we have one of the top fan art sites on the Internet. It will also let artists not have to worry about our old and inefficient approval system.

Basically the code for moderating artwork is done and very intuitive to use. I need people I can really trust and who have been around OB for a while and are active in our art community and who want to see it prosper.

Please reply to this thread if you're interested in one of these spots. (You also have to have an active myO account.)

I'd love to be a Fan Art Moderator. I'm always as active as I can possibly be on myOtaku and I try to draw Fan Art as much as possible and submit it, but other things get in the way sometimes (schoolwork, chores, etc.).

I've been here at OB for about six or seven months now, I'm very trustworthy and responsible. I also have past experience as being a Moderator(mostly on my friends boards and I never cease to doing my job there, I'm always fair yet strict.)

If chosen, I would be very reliable and be someone who could definitely be counted on to do their job and to make sure that all art is appropriate, has no grammar or spelling errors, etc, etc.

Heh, I'm sure you'll get a million replies to this thread, so choose wisely, Adam. ^_^

I am willing to help out with the fan art section. I enjoy being apart of this community and really love submitting my art to the site. If needed, I am more than happy to help moderate the fan art section.

The updates to the fan art section are very nice and having a more streamlined submission process will help the fan art section grow. I am very excited to see this new update added to the site.

I would love to be Fan Art Mod. I'm always active everyday and I have pretty much nothing to do >_>.

I enjoy the fan art thats coming through. I spend as much time as I can clicking through the arts that the users has contributed . Even though I don't send in fan art of my own (I would if I have some drawing abilities X.X),
I was here since version 1 or 2 (4 years and 8 month in OB).

If I was chosen for Fan Art Moderator, I will be on as much as I can possibly can around the Fan Art section and give it the fullest commitment.

This addition will certainly be interesting....

I?m no senior member, but I would be glad to help. I?m constantly patrolling the fan art section. I?ve made myself a pest by reporting a lot of fan art thieves, but it?s because I want to keep this place honest and protect other artists. I sure you will have quite a few more replies to this by older members, but despite the fact that I?m only 2 months 'old' to this community, I still want to help.

I'm not going to give you the typical cliches of 'I'll do my best' and that, as I do not feel those phrases truely represent the expression of desire to undergo a responsibility such as this. However I am very interested in a position such as this.

Having acquired an interest in Art (Drawn in a fanatical response to a series or game, etc.), I feel that being chosen for this responsibility would only be a benefit, regardless of the drawbacks of the job. Becoming a fan art moderator would be a huge achievement, and it would allow me to truely appreciate responsiblity and enhance my skills.

I've been a member of theOtaku.com and the Otaku Boards society for three years now, and I feel that over the time I've spent here, I've been able to pick up many perspectives off of people around here, and would surely like to do my bit.

My compulsory education has finished now, and now that I have free time, this would be fantastic if I could settle into something new. By the time College starts, I would have finished the probationary period and be able to be completely committed.

Of course it's down to you to judge, but I can only say that I am very interested.

I feel that I am mature enough to understand different aspects of a Fan Art Moderator's life, and I'm sure this position could lead to many new things.

I would never abuse the 'powers' a Moderator has, but I must say, the ability to 'freeze' myOtaku accounts would be an asset to my superhero-ability collection, ^_~.

A majority of the active members here I have at least spoken to a few times and even formed friendships with. So I trust that you would also ask for a second opinion of whether or not I would be able to cope with the job.

Well, you know what you're looking for, and if I am not what you are looking for, that is completely understandable.

Good tidings.

Well I'm rather interested in taking one of these spots. I've been here for... *Counts* ...Three years or so now. (Didn't realise it was that long, I should probably have more posts to show for it?) I'm good at moderating and have a vast experience in forums, irc and other medium so as far as a fan art section it shouldn't be to hard to do. I'm not 'seen' to be part of the art community basically because I sit on the side lines, mainly because I can't draw well, but I still enjoy looking through and judging the art work. :)

*Jumps up and down* Pick me, Pick me! :p

PS (For those wondering or clicked to check my profile I had an account before this one for awhile before this one was registered.)

I've only been here for a little bit, honestly, although I've been with TheOtaku for a bit longer.

The Fan Art is really the only thing I care about on TheOtaku, and I'd love to moderate it. I can code, I'm reliable, if you need I can send you a resume hehehehe.

I do not have any previous experience with being a moderator. But I love art and for something like this I'm willing to put forth maximum effort. I haven't been too active in the Fan Art section of TheOtaku lately because my pieces take me so much time to do and I barely finish any during the school year since I'm working on websites, comics, etc. But considering how much time I piss away posting on Otakuboards, I'm sure I can dedicate that time instead to modding. Also my spelling is deescent, but then again that's barely a qualification.

Anyway, you (well, other mods I guess) know me well enough to judge whether I'd be a good mod for this or not I suppose. But I urge you to give me a chance.

I'm very interested in the position. And, by looking at the number of submissions I've done myself, you know that I am active in the fanart community. Not to mention the OB community as well. As for being around for a while, it's been 2 and a half years since I first joined this place. ^_^

I think I am very well qualified for the job of moderator for many reasons. The first is that I've been drawing Sonic the Hedgehog and DragonBallZ Fan Art since I was just a little kid so I have a good understanding of how it works. Second I am an administrator on my own boards although I don't have many people. Third is that I have had my share of rules broken here on the OtakuBoards and I know what goes and what doesn't.

Although I have not posted anything on the FanArt section due to the fact that I have no scanner I visit the fan art sectiona lot and I am a good judge of what is good and what isn't when criticizing all arts. Not just Fan art.

Some of my other qualifications for this job is that I am a mature, well known member on the otaku. I have been a member since September 12 of last year, I am very creative. Evidence of this is visible in the Adventure Arena where I spend lots of time here, and I am friendly. If I do become a moderator I will put 100% effort into working for the OtakuBoards as well as trying to make it a great place for all members.

I have a couple of people who I believe could recommend me for this position: Skitto, Cyriel, and Noelle.

So in conclusion I am well qualified for the job and I am ready to give all that I have to making sure the Otakuboards prospers.

Thank you!!

I'd be up for the job if I were to be picked. To tell the truth, school comes first to me in everything, but I have always had an interest in art and would love to help out. I've been drawing...forever? :3 I used to post my own artwork at OB pretty frequently. I usually tend to stick with reviewing art now, but I still love the thing to death. I used to have some art up, but I took down some time ago; I forget why, lol. I have a pretty active myO and I've been participating in the art forum here at OB when it comes to hand-drawn pictures and such. :) Can't say much when it comes to banners and graphics, I'm afraid, but none of that is in the fanart section, right?

I do have one job at my dad's store, but I get home at about 4:00 PM everyday so I would have plenty of time to do any work or fix some things up. I basically have nothing to do when it comes to summer vacation, so getting this position would benefit me greatly, lol. I've been around OB for...about one and half years. Mayber a little more or less. [All I remember is that I was here before there was a Totoro banner at the top of a previous version. XD]

I guess you can judge whether I'm responsible or if you can trust me, but I can say I'm pretty responsible and hard-working for most 14 year olds, >_>. I wouldn't be afraid to put down the brakes on any artist breaking the rules at the fanart section and I do consider myself to be fair. So, may the best person be chosen!

I'd like to be a moderator. I believe I'm quite qualified because I'm pretty anal about everything I do. Therefore, I could help to keep the site as organised as possible, fixing spelling mistakes in the captions and such. I'm also quite good at detecting plaigiarism. I haven't been on the boards too long though but that doesn't have to do too much with theotaku anyway. I also have a decent number of my own drawings up, and know how much effort has to go into artwork, and have a great appreciation for all the artists' hard work.

I'd be happy to assist in the Fanart section of TheOtaku. Almost every day I find myself looking through the new pieces, examining each one that catches my eye, and I always vote yes or no on the ones that deserve it.

Unlike a lot of people who have applied here, I have not really been around TheOtaku and OtakuBoards too long. I'm going on my one year anniversary here pretty soon, but it's been said many times before by many wise members of this community: It's not how long you've been here, it's the quality of what you've done in the time you've been here. And I'm quite active around myOtaku and OtakuBoards, though it might not always be very obvious. Every day I spend at least two or three hours on the computer, and most of that is spent browsing through members' myOtaku sites, and threads on OtakuBoards.

I'm also an artistic person. I'm certainly not the greatest artist in existence, of course, but I draw whenever I have the chance. You don't find a lot of my art on TheOtaku simply because I'm very selective about what I like to show people. Often times I just sketch for hours at a time, and when something good comes up, it's already surrounded by a hundred less worthy things on the same paper. Rarely do I find a drawing of mine on a paper by itself that's worth displaying, and even then I don't show most of them because I'm sort of a perfectionist with this sort of thing, and if I find a single flaw, even if it's just a subtle problem in shading, I just forget I ever drew it.

I am a very fair person, though. I'm never biased when it comes to judging other people or their work, and even when I heavily dislike a drawing I go about telling them in a polite and constructive manner.

Wow, so many people have already replied to this thread...
I'd like to be a fanart moderator. I visit myOtaku constantly and I always upload my own fanart. I'd enjoy taking on this job to make sure that the fanart section is treated properly.
I'm online basically all the time so I'd be able to keep up to date with the fanart.
I know I haven't been around on either the Otaku Boards or my Otaku a long time, in fact I only had my 3 month anniversary last month. But I have been posting fanart since the day I joined the Otaku, this was the reason I joined in the first place.
It's a wonderful place to post fanart and share it with others, I wouldn't want to see it abused and it would be great if I could help ^^
When it comes to other peoples work, you can't really judge it by the quality of the drawing (to a certain extent) of course, you wouldn't want to be excepting stick men. But most people draw because they enjoy it and they may not be that good but they want to share their passions with others, so I think I could judge an awful drawing from a drawing of an enthusiastic artist who just want to see what other people think, or even to get advice.
I've realised that some people vote 'no' on pictures for no apparent reason, even on the best of them. I think that's unfair, especially if no reason is given. It's good to give artists a chance and they should always be given advice when their pictures are voted down, I do try to do this.

I just want to repeat...again...that this is not a position on OtakuBoards. We are advertising a position for a moderation spot at theOtaku.com: Fan Art.

If you do not actually read the information presented either in my announcement or in this thread, then you are not exactly providing a good first impression. ~_^

Well, two people have already been chosen by Adam to my knowledge. I'm not sure if they have been informed though; no doubt I'll make an announcement when I find out the details of that.

Adam asked me to recommend a third person to him, which I did. But I have no idea if he is going to choose that person or somebody else. Afterall, where OtakuBoards is primarily my responsibility, theOtaku.com is something that Adam is more involved in on a day-to-day basis. So he has a much better idea of the kind of numbers he needs and the kind of skills he's looking for. ^_^
