Guest gendou ikari
Now, you're going to have to work with me here because I can't remember all the names of every character in all of these films but I'm going to give it a shot. If I get one or two wrong, shoot me. #1 Fist of Legend - Chen Zhen Vs. Fujita Yeah, you nailed this one Laydback. Perhaps one of the greatest and most epic battles in cinematic history. It doesn't get much better than Fist of Legend. #2 Iron Monkey - Iron Monkey/Wong Kei-Ying Vs. Master Fox One of THE standout scenes in the film, not to mention a brilliant finale. How do you beat having your character fight whilst standing above a inferno on poles? You don't! #3 Once Upon a Time in China - Wong Fei-hung Vs. Iron Robe Yim I believe it was Wong Vs. Iron Robe at least. It's the battle outside of Wong Fei-Hung's school in the middle of a storm. The rain pours heavy as they battle and Wong Fei-Hung and Iron Robe actually end up passing a gigantic rotating board at one another. It's obviously floating on wires, but it's still a very cool sight. #4 Fist of Legend - Chen Zhen Vs. Ting-An Another Fist of Legend fight scene at the top of the list, can you tell I love this film? A totally underrated fight scene really. It's not exactly too, too long or anything but what is on display is totally classic. Jet Li proves why he is the master. I could have listed the scene where he busts in the Japanese dojo and beats down like twenty guys, but I think the two listed so far is plenty enough. 5# Snake in the Eagle's Shadow - Chien Fu Vs. Sheng Kuan I just wouldn't feel safe if I didn't list a Jackie Chan film on here Hwang Jang Lee plays the evil baddie in this brilliant flick and during Jackie and his climatic battle in the end, he actually broke off one of Chan's teeth with his powerful kicks. The man has legs of steel. He actually ended up killing a man with just one kick to the temple, he's tough, Jackie's tough and the whole fight sequence is just awesome! #6 The Magnificent Butcher - Butcher Wing Vs. Beggar I think the character only went by the name of Begger, but I could have the character mixed up it's been a while since I saw it. I particularly like this fight scene for some reason. Maybe it's because he farts in Sammo Hung's face, maybe it's the brilliant and fast choreography, I'm not sure. All I know is I dig it. #7 The Buddhist Fist - Shang Vs. Secret Villain Okay, I can't tell you who our lead hero fights because it would be a spoiler, but trust me, the fight rules. It's the very last scene (the film ends abruptly as do all great Old School flicks) and every possible variation of Buddhas Palm you could ever expect is on display here. Not to mention some seriously cool acrobatic Kung Fu. 8# Once Upon a Time in China II - Wong Fei-Hung Vs. Lan Donnie Yen Vs. Jet Li, anything more to add? A brilliant series of fight scenes and even though I thought this was the weakest in the series (yes, blasphemy, I know) there's still no getting past how great these two are. #9 Drunken Master - Wong Fei-Hung Vs. Thunderfoot That's right, Jackie Chan fights Hwang Jang-Lee once again! This go around isn't quite as brilliant as their battle in Snake in the Eagle's Shadow (In my opinion of course) but it's still just a wondrous and entertaining bout. #10 Once Upon a Time in China - Wong Fei-Hung Vs. Iron Robe Yim (?) * The fight takes place on top of a stack of ladders, ladders! The characters balance on them, fling them at each and essentially hover around the room. A brilliant piece of cinematic awesomeness Alright, that's all I can think of. It took me like thirty minutes looking around the net to get the names together and I'm done writing
Zen
Sorry, sorry. But none of the above compare to the following. 1. Game of Death: Hai Tien (Lee) vs. Dan Inosanto An excellently beutiful, and most of all, realistic battle going from stick vs. Bamboo whip, to Nunchaku vs. Nunchaku, to bare hands vs. Nunchaku. Just an awsome fight, and Dan Inosanto was just great. Especially when he took out Lee's two lesser partners. 2. Game of Death: Hai Tien vs. Hap Ki Do Grandmaster Although the fighters real name is never revealed, the fight is great and it shows the true power of joint locking and throwing techniques. Pure fun to watch him dismantle two people at once. I remember when Lee's tallre partner tried to kick him, and the guy placed on foot in front of his standing foot and hooked his other around his kicking leg, moved his waist a little, and threw him down. Grandure! 3. Game of Death: Hai Tien vs. Hakim (Kareem Abdul Jabaar) Showing the true power of the human body. Just an awsome fight to watch, especially seeing Jabaar throwing those kicks, its almost scary. You think that one landed would take of Lee's head. Bruce's sheer speed is his advantage and its fun to watch him use it. Cool fight. But I liked the Inosanto battle more. 4. The Chinese Connection: Bruce Lee vs. Chuck Norris This was an awsome and epic fight set in the Roman Colliseum. It was fun to watch as Lee slowly transitioned to Jeet Kune Do and became formless with his style. It showed true heart in the spirit of martial art. This goes down as one of the greats for me. 5. Enter The Dragon: Bruce Lee vs. Bob Wall (Hana) Awsome fight, awsome. Bob Wall seemingly dwarfed Lee in size and power at first, and then, whammo! Speed prevails and and Bruce takes him apart. Great fight. Not to mention the last side kick thrown, in fact, was real, and broke the arm of one of the extra's who caught Wall on the rebound. Shows how amazing Lee really was. Thats all for now. I got more, but I have proven I'm a total Lee fanatic.
Guest ScirosDarkblade
This isn't old-school like the Lo Wei films, but Jackie Chan's Gorgeous -- C.N. Chan vs Brad Alan The best one-on-one fight I've ever seen in any movie, hands down. And I've seen all the fights you guys have mentioned plus nearly all of Jackie Chan's others, and a whole bunch else. I love cool martial arts films. If you guys haven't seen the above fight, I encourage you to do so. It's quite awesome.
Monkey_Orange
I grew up watching loads and loads of Hong Kong Kung Fu epics. The best one that I can recall is the Legend of the Condor Heroes [NOT THE ANIME]. There are SO many good Hong Kong shows that can NEVER compare to some of the more popularized shows that have been imported to the US. My apologies, but I can't recall the translated names. Sorries. Shiguru
When Kung-Fu flicks are involved 2 things follow: 1) Bad story 2) Bad acting. That's just what makes them Kung-Fu movies. While I am a fan of Bruce Lee as both a man and a legend... and respect him VERY much... he can't act worth a damn. My personal favorite Kung-Fu films are the ones made in the 70's and early 80's that have absolutly AWFUL dubs. If you thought Anime had the worst dubs in existance... you haven't seen Fist of Vengence III yet. As for fights: 1) Warrior Debts- Kenji vs. Hattoko. One of the best and most realistic (well, theatrical wise.) sword duels I've seen on film. It was short, but it was VERY Kenetic and awe inspriring to see how dedicated the filmakers were. To the average eye it may not seem like much, but to a film and Martial Arts buff it is amazing. The fight is done from one camera angle, and was done in one take. Now, Bruce Lee 's choreagraphy didn't allow that because he went for both Realism and dramatics. Here is was more like Hong Kong theatre meets Japanese sword-play. Perhaps the coolest part was when Hattako used a second-form Judo Shoulder Throw to litterally SLAM Kenji on the floor. 2) Fist of Vengence II- The final duel. God did this movie suck... even to a Kung-Fu movie buff like myself. This fight was pretty awesome though. It takes place on the top of a ship plank floating in the river. (I don't know how the filmmakers got the damn thing to be so sturdy. They might have used beauy's or something on the side and off camera.) but bad editing actually HELPED this fight by making these girls seem more realistic. The almost falls throghout the fight and the almost vomit of one of the fighters makes it seem better. And the fight a little more entertaining. Those are my two favorites of all time. I have many others, but they are either too unbeleivable or just don't make me stare in awe. Sorry, Bruce Lee never did that to me... he never was able to convince me that someone was actually fighting. Maybe it's because I've seen so many fights in my life I'm desensitzed or something.
