Reagan performed some of the greatest presidential acts since Kennedy desegregated public schools. A celebration of Reagan's political career is a celebration of what makes America great.

I'm so sick of the spoiled, bratty attitudes around this place. You'd think we were living in a third world country, the way you [i]kids[/i'] complain about America and politicians all the time.

If you don't like Reagan, just have some respect for the dead and stay away from the thread, [i]kids.[/i']
What people should try to realize is that there are good and bad parts to every presidency (The jury is still out on what the good parts of this (the BUsh) administration is, but we're pretty sure there's something besides the way he handled 9/11)

Reagan did help the United States and Russia come together and finally ended the cold war which had lasted since the 1950's that's something to recommend him. And he did try his best to do something about the economic problems of his time.

But Iran Contra was a bit of a set back. His administration faced accusations of breaking the arms trade embargo to Iran.

There was also trickle down ecomnomics and de regulation.

But politics aren't to be thought about when a person dies no matter what has happened. Unless of course you're Jerry Fowell and you want to go protest a gay man's funeral reguardless of the fact that he was beaten to death because of people like you.

I've a question now, do you think that closing government buildings on Friday was necessary since the man who died was a former president ane not serving in office at the time of his death? And since that was done for this former president shouldn't it be done for every other former president from here on out?

I didn't really get a chance to form an opinion yet, but my mom thought it was a waste because they didn't do that for Johnson or Nixon adn she doesn't feel that they'll do it for anyone else, definately not Clinton.

So, what are your takes on that?

It's really up to the president in office and the relative feelings towards the recently deceased former president.

Nixon was a crook, no matter what he said, and was almost as big a disgrace to the presidency as Clinton. Johnson really wasn?t significant enough to warrant a national holiday, although it certainly could have happened.

Overall, I didn?t think it was necessary, but it was a nice tribute to one of the greatest presidents our nation has ever known.

On a completely different note, I'm just frankly shocked by some of the disgusting things people have posted here. It's one thing to be pithy and make smartass comments, it's another to insult a dead man. This is neither the time nor the place for such remarks.
