Onix
I know what you're thinking, "wasn't this an RPG?" Yes. And now, since it died, I decided to write a Digimon fanfic based on it. Same story, same characters, but one author. Me. Let me know what you think, especially those of you signed up. ~~~ Prologue-Phobiamon?s Rebirth It was cold. It had been so cold for many centuries, and he couldn't stand it any longer. Phobiamon had to awaken. He stretched out as far as he could, pressing the boundaries of his prison once more. They still didn't break, but the bend was greater than ever. Just a little more energy and he would walk the earth. Just a little energy...just a little fear. But to gain that fear, perhaps some power needed to be used. The fear could awake him...but its cost would be high. And risky, as well. He would use the Digi-Form Warriors. But not just any of them, no, it would have to be the Phi Warriors. But awakening them would drain him greatly. And besides, they wouldn't have power until one of the other Forms awoke, triggering the Fear Download. So, he would cause need for them to be called. By making his power known to the Digital World, the Digi-Form Warriors would be called, and his power would rule. So, having decided this, Phobiamon utilized every bit of his power, charging up a grand attack. "Fear Decimation!" he roared, voice cracked and weak. The attack exploded around him, cracking the prison but not enough for his freedom. He could feel the power he had expended returning to him...and the new fear adding to his power. Maybe he wouldn't need the Phi Warriors, after all. "Fear Decimation!" Another blast and the prison almost shattered. More and more fear energized him, replacing the power that leaked away and increasing his strength. One more blast and he would walk again. "Fear Decimation!" The energy prison exploded, and Phobiamon stepped onto the barren earth. The desert ground here was blackened with his evil, cracked and turned to hard, barren rock. He stretched his long, warped arms and legs, cracking his knuckles and flexing his talon-tipped fingers. A sneer tugged at his mouth, showing yellowed, pointy fangs. His grotesque face split wide in glee. "I live!" he snarled...and the Earth wept. Chapter One-The Cat Came Back Alethea Fia Farren sat in front of a computer screen in the back of the classroom. She was in computer class and was bored. She was a fast typer, going 100 words a minute with only two mistakes. A message suddenly popped up on her screen. ?Hey, my little ?Winged Fairy Wonder.? This class is boring!? it read. Alethea giggled silently. Looking over the screen, she waved to her friend Winfred. He smiled and winked. He called her ?Winged Fairy Wonder? because that?s what her name meant. His meant ?Friend of Peace?. Obviously, he was really into figuring out what people?s names meant. ?This class IS boring, ?Friend of Peace.? I wish I had taken something different,? she typed. ?Got that right!? he replied. She was reading his message when a door opened on her screen. What is this? She thought Next thing she knew, she was sucked into the computer screen, hurtling through the abyss. ************* She awoke in a large, lush forest. Looking around, she saw a crystal blue lake nearby, but nothing else. Just trees, shadows, and a lake. It appeared no one at all was around. She was completely alone, and she really didn?t like being alone. ?If I just sit here, someone will tell me where I am,? she whimpered. She sat there, fighting back the tears that filled her big hazel eyes. She hugged her knees, padded by the purple cloth of her dress. A lock of her long brown hair came loose from its pink ribbon, but she tucked it behind her ear. ?I know they?ll come find me,? she said softly. ?Someone has to be here.? She looked down at her shoes and saw that they were dirty, as were her socks and her charm bracelet that was around her left ankle. She slowly rose and walked over to the lake. Peering out of the pristine waters was her reflection, scared and sad. Ignoring her fear, she dunked her hand in the water and began to scrub at her shoes. The dirt came of easily on all of the surfaces. She smiled weakly; happy she could clean and distract her mind. However, she was still alone, and now had nothing to distract her. ?I wonder where this is?? she said. ?I don?t think I?ve been to any forests like this before. I don?t see how I could?ve been teleported through a computer, though. Maybe I?m asleep.? Instantly, the light clicked on in her head. ?Of course! This is just a wacky dream! I just fell asleep during boring, boring computer class and I?ll wake up when the teacher starts yelling at me! In the mean-time, I should just look around. It?s not like anything can hurt me, or anything.? And with that, she stood up again and skipped through the woods, cheerful at last. She noticed that all of the trees looked the same, and that she wouldn?t be able to find her way back later. But that didn?t matter, since soon she would wake up. ?I wonder if there?s anything else in this forest?? she asked herself. ?There must be somebody around here. But I hope they aren?t some kind of monster.? She stood there, contemplating for a moment, before shrugging. She returned to her trek through the woods. After at least a half-hour of walking, Alethea became fairly tired. ?I guess I should take a rest,? she said, panting a little. Gracelessly, she plopped down in front of a particularly tall tree that cast a lot of shade. The sun was high and hot. Wherever Alethea had ended up, it was summer. ?I wish I had a fan,? she groaned, fanning herself with her hand. ?It?s too hot!? Simply sitting in the cool shade, exhausted from her long trek, lonely and afraid, hot from the summer air, Alethea found sleep. When she awoke, it was not in her classroom, being told by her teacher to get up. She was still in the large forest, but it was cooler, and it was getting darker. ?I guess?I guess it wasn?t just a dream,? Alethea said, getting really scared. If it wasn?t a dream, it had to be real. This meant she was lost and alone in a strange, giant forest she had never been to. ?This is bad?very bad,? she said. The tears had returned, and this time she couldn?t turn them away. They leaked out; cutting paths through the dirt that had appeared on her face. ?I want to go home, I want to be back in boring computer class, I want to see my mom and my dad and Winfred and all my friends again! I don?t want to be here!? she yelled. Her voice reverberated through the silent forest. The echo bounced against tree after tree, carrying on for miles. Yet no other sounds could be heard. Except the footsteps. Alethea?s ears twitched slightly at the new sound. Heavy, slow footsteps plodding along. And they were getting closer. ?Hello?? Alethea called out. ?Any body out there?? No one answered, but the footsteps were getting much closer. ?Hello? Who?s out there? Can you tell me where I am? I?m lost! Please, help me!? Alethea was beginning to panic. The voiceless footsteps were almost upon her, and she didn?t know if she wanted to meet the walkers. ?Please, tell me, who are you?? she asked. She wanted to sound brave, but the panic was overwhelming. ?Who are you!?? she shrieked. The footsteps stopped, as if the walkers were analyzing the situation. Then the started up again, methodically, slowly, deliberately. Alethea huddled up, trying to make herself look small. She didn?t want to meet the walkers, she knew that now. Especially not in the forest, were no one else was around and shadows were growing longer. All of a sudden, figures appeared in the distance around Alethea. They moved out of the distant gloom slowly, traveling in a line. As they grew closer, Alethea was able to determine their boxy shape, like walking refrigerators. One stepped into a beam of sunlight, and Alethea had to stifle a scream. It was a robot, boxy and heavy. The head was painted on with day-glow white paint. The image was a narrow, demonic skull. The metal was dark gray. It was a fierce-looking, deadly thing, and Alethea didn?t want to meet it. ?Human located,? said the robot. Its voice was flat and mechanized, with an eerie metallic echo. ?Initiating capture sequence.? ?Capture?? Alethea gasped. ?Not so fast!? yelled a voice. Out of nowhere, a small creature leapt high over the robot?s head and landed in front of it. It ran swiftly towards Alethea. Alethea was ecstatic to see it was a small, white cat. The cat was standing on its hind legs. It had green gloves striped red on the back, with long black claws. Its ears were quite big, as were its green eyes. A ring floated on its long, purple-striped tail. ?A talking cat?? Alethea said, letting it sink in. ?Before you pass out, we need to run, okay?? asked the cat. ?By the way, my name?s Tailmon.? ?A talking cat?that?s so?? Alethea began. She looked dazed. ?Oh no,? Tailmon gasped. ?Don?t pass out!? ?COOL!? Alethea shrieked. The girl stood up, grabbed the cat around the middle, and hugged it close to her chest. ?Please let go, or at least run!? said the cat, glaring. ?Run?? Alethea said. She caught sight of the robots again. ?Right, run!? Alethea turned to the side and began running. ?Circle around behind the robots!? yelled Tailmon. ?I?ll lead you to a safe-house!? ?Okay!? ?Fire!? chorused the robots. ?Fear Grenade!? Behind Alethea, a huge explosion rocked the ground. She stumbled and almost fell, but managed to keep her footing. She ran in a large arc, and moved behind the line of robots. ?Now keep going straight until you get out of the forest!? ?Okay!? And she kept running. The sound of the robots walking in the background, but Alethea was easily outrunning them. Tailmon?s ?encouragement? made Alethea keep running. ?Don?t stop or you?ll die! Do you want to die?? ?If you stop, I?ll claw your eyes out!? At last, Alethea reached the edge of the forest. ?We can rest now,? said Tailmon. ?I think it?s safe to sleep?for awhile, anyway.? ?Good,? said an exhausted Alethea. The tired girl fell against a tree and slid down into a sitting position. ?Tailmon, what are you?? ?I?m a Digimon, or digital monster,? Tailmon said. ?I?m one of many who live here in the Digital World, and those things you saw were another kind.? ?So I?m in the Digital World?? ?Yes.? ?Where?s that?? ??Um, I don?t know how to answer that,? Tailmon said. She tapped her chin with one claw, thinking. ?I guess you could say that it?s another dimension.? Alethea stared at Tailmon, dazed. ?I think you should rest,? Tailmon said, breaking the silence. ?You?ve been running pretty hard and you?re probably drained.? ?Right?sleep?? Alethea muttered. Within moments, the young girl was asleep.
