ChibiHorsewoman
Define near. Because there are two amusement parks in my area in about a 30 to 90 minute drive. The closer one is SeaBreeze. It's a rather old (125 years this year) amusement park near Irondiquiote bay. They have this 90 year old wooden rollercoaster called the Jack Rabbit. They used to have this old carosel too, all hand carved and everything. But there was a fire there back in '94 i think and the Carosel burned down. There's also a train that goes through most of the park. And a water park. This year they've also gotten a few new rides. I haven't been there in almost 4 years, infact the last time i went was when I tried to hook Becky up with Lincoln and my ex almost puked on her because he got sick on the tilt-a-whirl. Now there's a memory! The other one is Six flags Darien Lake. It used to be just Darien Lake, but then a few years ago they changed it. The most remarkable thing about Darien Lake is probably the Ferris Wheel which is pretty much the first thing you see when you come up the last road to the park. Or atleast it was the first thing until the Superman ride of Steel. Darien Lake has this ride called the sky coaster which is basically a bungee jump where you and three of your friends can fly over the park and the pond where innocent people who have rented paddle boats are paddling around. They also have four other rollercoasters (excluding the Superman which is shut down this year) including the Boomerang which flings you back and forth. The predator which gives you whiplash the Viper (first one I ever went on) and a suspended one that I can't remember the name of right now. Of course there's a waterpark which is included in the park and Grizzly run which is this raft ride that gets you soaked no matter what you try. Darien Lake also has an onsite hotel, two swimming pools and a camp ground. Their end of season event is the halloween thing at the end of October. I may be able to go to that this year. Finally, about a four hour drive East is Valley Forge in the Letherstocking region of the Adirondacks. But I've never been there, so I can't really say what's there. However, next year I plan on going to SeaBreeze and Darien Lake about three times. Maybe I'll even make it out to Valley forge.
instantramen14
There are quite a few amusement parks near my house; Disneyland/California Adventure, Knott's Berry farm and Six Flags. Disneyland/California Adventure is about 15 minutes from my house. Its quite fun to go to, but it can get boring after the 25 time in a year. My family had passes a year or so ago. I'd go with my friend, who also had a pass, and we'd run around the park by ourselves untill midnight. But we just didn't renew our passes. Now, i'll go with my friend, whoes mom works there and gets me in for free. ^_^ My favorite ride at Disneyland is Space Mountian, but thats closed for renovation right now. At California Adventure, I love the california screaming rollercoaster. Last summer, I remember going on it several times with my friend and doing a different pose each time we went on. Knott's Berry Farm, or Knott's as many people call it, is my favorite amusement park. Its theme is kinda american, one area of the park is old west, another is like 50's, another is like Mexican, another is camp snoopy and another is like 20's hollywood. It's mostly old west though. Knotts is really popular for school field trips. My old school's orchestra would go there to play for the musical showcase. We'd play for mabey a half an hour and then run around the park for five. The eigth grade trip for my old school also goes there. It was alot of fun. They do all sorts of educational tours too. When I was in the fourth grade, we went on a tour to learn about mining and old west California. This year, we went for a "physics of rides" lesson. My favorite ride there is Montezooma's Revenge (yes it's spelled like that.) You go foreward and through a loop, up this incline and then you do it backwards. It's really fun. Another one of my favorite rides there is Wipeout. Its like this roulette wheel and it spins around and around and then it tips so it's at this angle. You spin and spin and spin... I always get a headache when I go on it. I love it, ^_^ I've never actually been to the Six Flags here. Its about an hour away. Mabey I should plan on going there someday. ^_^
Cat
Well, I don't think this an amusemet Park but all well. The only thing that I know of that is like a amusemet Park that i have been to is Old Tucson Studio's. It this place where they did alot of movies like wild wild west. They had a fire a few years ago but it's still great. There are some rides but my faverit is this train that goes around the out side of Old Tucson Studio's. There are events like Night fall around Hoalloween time. I never went during this time. To scary. Well see you around.
JuliasPeach
Wow! i'm glad people were actually answering this! :D instantramen14 your lucky to live by all thoughs nice parks! I just love amusment parks, as i said before! also you all sound like you have had quite some fun at these places! I personally "Love" this new ride at "Calaway Park" its called the "Chaos" and it is a big circle of seats that lifts up into the air and then tilts, then as the wheel spins gravity flips the seats all over, upside down, sidways backwards... its sooo cool! and ChibiHorsewoman your lucky to have so many rollercoasters to go on! i only have one..... and Cat14 your studio thing sounds fun too. where is it? I might want to stop by there if i'm in the neigborhood! :D

I'm reasonably close to Six Flags Great America, but I have to admit that I don't really like it. I used to go there once a summer or so when I was a kid--there was a program where if you read for ten hours, you could get free tickets. So my brother and sister and I did that every year. I don't know. I just don't care for roller coasters. I'm not scared or them, exactly...I just find them unpleasant. Plus, they go rid of my favorite ride a while back. But that wasn't nearly as sad as an old carosel's buring down.
Crazy Ace
You guys have it good. There are no amusement parks where I live (The Bahamas) and it really blows. I always wanted to go to Six Flags or Bush Gardens. I guess when I go to college I will have my chance then, or when I go on a vacatiion destination that is in the area of an amusement park
bimbo69
I have two parks that are near to where i live (in england). They are Drayton Manor and Alton Towers. Drayton is quite a good park and get new rides every few years but its my fav park because i have always gone there since i was little, i think my favrite ride is Shockwave but when i was small it was the buffalo ride. Alton Towers is bigger then drayton and it has better rides aswell, they get new rides about every 2 years, i have only been once but it was fun. I think the best every park that i have been to, would have to be Bush Gardens though i cant remember it that well because i visited it 9 years ago, i do remember gettin soaked on tidal wave. Japan
I remember Alton towers! It is fun place. Well, the closest one to me is in Idaho. It's called Silverwood. There are several rides that I really enjoy. Like this ride where you are closed in this cage thing standing up....this cage is circular as well. It spins in circles really really fast. I also like roller coasters. They are really enjoyable.

I've never been to Knotts Berry Farm or Six Flags, but I've been to Disneyland once every year of my whole entire life. Thats right. I've been there 10 times. Going for 11th in July or August. I also live near Universal Studios. I've been there, and it was fun. But I can't remember it. Since I was there when I was 2 or 3 years old.... Disneyland: My favorite ride there is...... AUTOPIA!!! Corny yes. But it's fun. When I get into the car, I slam the pedal flat into the ground and bump/crash into the car in front of me. Very fun. Including when it's my sister in the front :). Screaming and hollering. I also like to go around Toon town. Random OB member: TOON TOWN?!?!? ARE YOU INSANE!?!?! ....Whatever. Anyways, Toon Town is cool. Especially the Roger Rabbit ride :). After that I go to the "Classic Disney Movie" rides. Pretty fun. Disneyland is a tradition in my family. I have never heard of a year when nobody in my family has visited the amusement park lol.
Shikyo
It's not near Calgary (or even in Canada), but in my opinion, the best amusement park is Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, U.S. They have this one ride called Top Thrill Dragster that goes 120 mph and is 420 feet tall. Everyone needs to go to Cedar Point at least once in their life.
