natetron46
Anime is something you watch from the safety of your own home. Its hard to pick up chicks when the know you used to watch Sailor moon or DBZ or even kenshin. haha, thats true, wouldnt i know :( there are some who like it though (yes!!!) i think regardless if some people think its stupid, if it becomes popular enough, it will go onto the silver screen. Solo Tremaine
Anime is something you watch from the safety of your own home.
It depends entirely on the anime. Series that are obviously made for TV wouldn't suit the cinema, but I'd love to see more on the big screen. There's a certain impact that you get from being completely immersed in a cinema screen that you don't quite get at home. The End of Evangelion movie had its own screening at a UK Sci-fi Channel convention in London. That would have been nice to see on a big screen. The thing with anime films is that some are less than an hour long anyway- Sin, The Slayers movies, Voices of a Distant Star- none are long enough to warrant their own screening, and it's probably better value for you as a customer to buy the series on DVD and watch it whemever rather than pay 4-5 pounds every time you want to watch something that might not even be half an hour long. But a lot of the better standalone movies have been shown in cinemas. Even though Spirited Away was given a disappointingly restricted showing (I was lucky enough to catch it at the local arts cinema), it was still shown. I think people are becoming much more open to anime now. Honestly, if people don't like me simply because I watch anime then it's their problem. If they don't want to accept you for what you like then they probably aren't worth being friends with anyway. I really don't care.
Midnightsnow
Dont worry I know how it is not having any anime movies played at theaters. But for me I am like the only one that knows about anime where I live. No one else knows what it is or where it comes from! :flaming: :flaming: It drives me wild! natetron46
Midnight, I have relatively the same problem. In my area very few people know of anime, its hard to find people to talk about it with or even places to buy it, right now Im concerned with watching/downloading episodes and reading manga on the internet. Well thats ok if there isnt anyone around us, thats why we have Otaku! :D

Guest ScirosDarkblade
Anime isn't in theaters here because it'd be too expensive to put out. You'd have to market it like crazy, and even then you'll have to be lucky to make any kind of return on it. Relatively few people would rather see an anime film than I, Robot (or in addition to it). The reason why they don't put anime movies out in theatre is probaly because they have tryed before and it didn't make any money. Like with pokemon they have put some Pokemopn movies out in theatres. I doubt that they have made as much money as reality movies. Fo all we know the reason why they put Pokemon out in theatres is to see if they should put any more anime out in theatres. But now days people only think about how much money they can make on a movie rather than the people out there that would actually appreciate different types of like anime and manga! Zen
Hey, "I, Robot" looks cool! Any ways thats besides the point. Anime movies are basically forgein films, and you really don't see many foreign films in theaters unless there really hyped and big-budgeted, that might also be a reason why it has a small market and little money-making capabilites. Anyways, I really wouldn't care if they did or didn't air them in theaters. I'd much rather buy the DVD (something I'm kidna new too anyways). When I say big budget, a good case in point is "Akira", "Ghost in the Shell", and "Cowboy Bebop: The Movie". All hugely budgeted anime (may CB with an exception, but it was already well known) that made it into theaters. So you can't say that anime is never aired, just rarley. Its basically treated the same as any other foreign flicks. Its like the differance of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" making it, and "Red Dragon Fist" not making it. Atleast thats my opinion.
